We've had fermented shark (1290 isk, the waiter warned us it's not a common dish, but we still wanted to try, didn't like in the end 🤣), mild fish soup (1890 isk, 5 stars), two cods with mustard and langoustine sauce (4680 isk and 3750 isk, both great). As it was the first night in the city, we've asked to try also the traditional black bread and the chef added it as a compliment. It was super tasty. The place is definitely recommended, just don't expect trendy modern set up, rather traditional quiet place to relax and enjoy your meal.

Loved this place. Went for lunch and we had the Guillemot and Whale as mains. Great to eat local dishes that you wouldn't get at home. ( after all isn’t that one of the reasons for travel). Both delicious, whale was very tender and the Guillemot was like a rich partridge in game sauce. Had a coffee and two White beers, total was 9200. Service was friendly with very good English. Its a bit out of the down town area in a residential street but well worth the 10-15 min walk. Top tip, like a lot of restaurants around the world the lunch menu is cheaper than the evening menu, even for the same dishes, roughly 1000 cheaper for each main. Would recommend.

This was by far the best food that we tasted in Reykjavik, albeit it was at the higher end of the budget range. Their menu includes Icelandic specialties not offered elsewhere (puffin, guillemot billed as ‘sea bird’). Presentation was cordon bleu standard, portion sizes just right. Beer was reasonably priced particularly for a restaurant. Staff efficient & friendly. The only thing that let it down was the dearth of dessert choices (no matter as we’d had an excellent sufficiency).

3 Frakkar has always been a place where one can rely on good service and good fish menu in an old fashioned all Icelandic atmosphere. We decided to go there on an early Friday night recently but the place just has somehow lost it´s passion and charm. The service was alright but obviously not executed by professionals. None of them spoke Icelandic which is alright, I usually don´t give a damn but in this place it didn´t feel right... The food was just alright. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to be reckoned with. The sauce I had with my food tasted like it came out of a package bought in the grocery store. The glass of white wine was so flat and such nothingness and I wondered if it might have come from a bottle opened the night before. Ah, it was just quite a disappointment to us since we´ve been coming to this old restaurant on and off through the years to capture that all Icelandic traditional fish restaurant atmosphere. Unfortunately that has gone it seems.

Quaint atmosphere and amazing food. I sought out this restaurant for an authentic dining experience as they serve puffin, whale, horse, and shark (among other delectable options) The smoked puffin and horse steak are well worth the $$$$. The staff were all lovely, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend!

This place is fantastic. It's slightly outside the city centre but still easily walkable from there. Exterior fairly plain, inside is a little like an old lady's sitting room - thick net curtains, lots of ornaments around the place. The service was very efficient and friendly and the food excellent, particularly the fish soup and the guillemot (which I have never seen on a menu before).

It's Saturday and it's Mid-August. On Friday we asked at the reception of our hotel to book us a table for 3 people in that resturant, but when we arrived at the restaurant we were told that the reservation was for two people and there was available only a very small table, small even for two. We point out the waiters that one couple of people were accomodated in a table for four people and asked them to move this couple to the table for two. The waiters told us that they cannot move people already seated who have already started to eat. Hence, we asked them if we can ask the 3 customers at a table of 4 contiguous to "our" table to agree to have one of us at their table, so as to stay close. They granted it to us, but one of the three Icelanders told us "it is not possible". At this refusal, at a contiguous table, another Icelander applauded, showing us all his dissent. We left resentful of such behaviour which we interpreted as racism against foreigners. In Italy, especially in the south, they would have welcome foreigners to their table, perhaps taking a conversation, and, I am sure, the restaurateur would have found a solution to the problem.

Quiet, cosy place. Not much to do during Covid season. We deciced to order take-away. That was a hit. I ordered the salted cod with cashew and raisins and my wife the braised cod in mustard sauce. These 2 dishes were phenomenal, fresh and almost wriggling from the ocean. This place is a must for fish as well if you fancy puffin or whale meat traditional.

Great place we always visit when being in Reykjavik. You can taste traditional Icelandic food here and you will not regret that. They open late afternoon and I recommend booking a table because this place is always full of clients. Easy to find free parking nearby and I also recommend walking down it's neighbourhood streets. It's actually very close to Hallgrímskirkja.

This intimate restaurant off the sidewalk in a pretty neighborhood welcomed us in just before our reservation. I strongly recommend you make a reservation here as this is a very popular restaurant. The menu has lots of wonderful choices of seafood and lamb. They did have fermented shark which I enjoyed, steamed mussels, and whale steak. Really good food with very attentive service. They have a small bar just for making drinks which they have plenty of. This is a must visit.

I thought I will never have a bad comment about any restaurant in Iceland as most the ones I tried were great 3 Frakkar is one of the worse Resturant I been too. A very simple thing in any Resturant if the gentleman who is taking your order bring your order wrong he should take it back and change it that’s how it supposed to be done. I ordered my halibut fish with roasted potato and i clearly said sauce on the side and the order came covered with sauce, raw cooked fish and the gentleman said he wrongly punched the order as they were busy and he offered dessert who cares about a desert if the main dish is totally wrong smallest potato different from the one we saw in other reviews and fish under cooked covered with sauce Resturant is all about hospitality and welcoming guest and smiling this was the worse service I ever had. On other notes mussels were great and yummy Off-course I don’t recommend this place for any one Thanks Sari

This is the restaurant to come to if you want to try foods you can only get in Iceland. Our party all shared bits of our meals, so we could all try everything. We had puffin, whale steaks, whale sashimi and guillemot. As well as being unique all the food was excellent quality, beautifully cooked and well presented. The service was very friendly. Although the restaurant is well known, it has a cosy, local feel. The whale sashimi was so good we ordered a second portion to take back to our holiday apartment.

28th of October 2021. Group of 3 friends. From whale steak, herring fish to every form, fish-shrimp soup, mushroom soup and fried cod, these 3 coats have everything. So, we tasted everything to this family place. Including a mango skyr cheesecake. In addition to these tasty balanced dishes, all personnel were so kind and friendly. It is worth to pay a visit to this 1989’s restaurant to taste these genuinely Icelandic flavors. It’s like an institution to the city of Reykjavik of Iceland with all these strange decorations with the head of Charly Chaplin at the bar.

We went there for the dinner, having been recommended by the locals. A very nice and peaceful place with Nordic atmosphere. The meal was fantastic - delicious and pleasantly served. Many local dishes in the menu especially fish, see food and local meat (puffin, horse, lamb). However, the vegetarians may also find something suitable. Really loved that place.

From appetizer to dessert, an amazing meal! Unique, "can only eat that in Iceland" options mixed among wonderful looking fish and lamb dishes. Opted for things I can't get elsewhere, roast whale and horse tenderloin. Creamy fish soup in the middle and topped off with skyrr brulee. HIGHLY recommend even if the whale and horse aren't your style. The table next to me had some amazing looking lamb that smelled awesome and a fish dish that looked amazing Small, intimate location so book ahead. Great staff, cool neighborhood location and decorations
