Peskesi was our first dinner spot for our time in Heraklion. We actually loved the food here so much that we immediately made another reservation so that we could eat there on our last night. It was that good! On our first visit, I had...the Wild Rose Trochaloi cocktail, with Rose wine, lemon, organic pomegranate, and amberoriza. This was so good and honestly, a great treat. To eat, we had the Thria or Thriomageria - ancient recipe for dolmades with grape vine leaves and zucchini flowers stuffed with groats and organic herbs from garden. I’m not exaggerating, these were the best stuffed grape leaves that I have ever had in my life. They were so good and honestly just tasted so different than others that I’ve had. We also had the Grilled “katsohiri” cheese - traditional Cretan cheese grilled table side and Local lamb with traditional yoghurt - slow cooked lamb with yoghurt and kefaotiri cheese, served with pilaf cooked in lamb broth.
Service was absolutely amazing and we really felt so welcomed on our first dinner in town. Each meal is accompanied by a complimentary dessert + complimentary raki with rose water as digestive. This was super nice and really set the tone and the bar for the rest of our meal in Heraklion.
On our last night in town, we ordered, of course, the same cocktails and stuffed grape leaves. We also added on a tomato shrimp dish with melted local cheese on top. I had the Rooster with “hilopites” - rooster cooked in wine with handmade traditional pasta and grated anthotyro and the meat was very moist and tender. X had the “Syglino” - pork chops smoked in front of you with traditional herbs (thyme and sage). This is served hanging on top of a smoker with thyme and sage. So unique and so delicious!More
