Found this little gem by accident. Before the novel below, let me just summarize with this first: the food was delicious and well prepared, and the staff was so friendly and kind. The combo of great food and wonderful staff makes the pleasant dining experience....Worth the wait!!!
I happened to be in the area an hour before lunch closing time. Got there and there was already a couple waiting. As it was near closing time, I wasn’t sure if could get in, but glad I waited. Eventually I was seated at 10 to 16h, at which time the restaurant was already closed (not uncommon practice especially if most tables will finish at closing time) . I was super grateful for their kindness and hospitality to have me, even though it meant their break would be delayed.
I am a fan of all things octopus, so I had the Polvo à Lagareiro with white wine, an excellent combo (thank you for the wine suggestion, Hugo!). I would have loved to try any cod fish dish, but as a solo diner, one can only eat so much…. Polvo was soooo tender, and the potatoes creamy and sweet. What a delightful dish! I could eat it all day, but beware, it is rich as it is cooked in olive oil. Too bad I didn’t have some bread to soak up the olive oil as it would have been delicious!
I also had the dessert and port combo - chose chocolate mousse to go with the port. They were a good ending to a wonderful lunch.
Highly recommend this place, and please try to be there when they open to fully enjoy the experience. I am especially thankful that Hugo spoke English with me, which I admit made me feel more welcomed. I will definitely be back when I am in town again!More
