Just over from our hotel (Casino Park), the restaurant is family run, serving typical Madeiran dishes – we found the menus very similar for most restaurants in the area, with fairly similar prices.
Having read the guidebooks, we knew that we needed to try lapas (limpets) and tomato soup with a poached egg, then espada (scabbard) with banana – needless to say, the portions were typically huge so we didn’t have room for a dessert.
Once we ordered, the staff remembered who’d ordered what – always a sign of really great service.
Highly recommended, but I do wish they wouldn't stand outside to encourage people in - don't know about anyone else, but it puts us off.

My wife and I ate at Victorias 4 times out of a seven night stay on the Island of Madeira, the waiters were professional and amusing because of their interaction, we went in to the restaurant knowing no one and came out with a dozen new friends Betty the owner was refined and hospitable. The chef needs special mention the food is not pretentious buy is well prepare and elegantly presented, the fish is all local and as fresh as can be . one evening the chef would not serve avocado because they were not perfectly ripe. but he improvised serving papaya with prawns instead. Let your hair down take up the challenge

Visited on a Sunday evening - didn't book but managed to find a table outside
Ordered Garlic Bread (yummy) and olives followed by Fillet Steak with Garlic demiglace and Lamb Chops. Both were accompanied by saute potatoes and vegetables. The food was delicious.
Service was excellent; very efficient and frinedly
Note that it can be a bit noisy from the road outside with buses etc. However, it's nice to be able to make the most of the warm weather and the nosie didn't bother us.
Also, the smoke from the next door bar blows over; it didn't bother us; however, if you don't like it either sit inside or go somewhere else!
Altogether an excellent meal and great value (52 Euros for the 2 of us)
Recommended and we will come back again

Every experience is personal so what works for some may not work for others but for me this restaurant wasn't good. The waiter was quite insistent that we had the catch of the day but eventually got the message that we didn't want it. He was also very pushy about a bottle of wine he felt we should have. Our food was average with a couple of potatoes inedible as they were so hard and similarly a piece of broccoli. Maybe it was just an off night but we will not be returning.

OK maybe medium to high price better based on menu. However based on what miniscule offering was served up overpriced about right.
Ordered Dorada, expecting the usually Madeira Dorada, got two miniscule fillets that where on ala carte menu, so small portion, good service expected, you might say. Got wine poured on table cloth, reaching over to lay cutlery, no usually " is everything OK with your meal" do you require anything else. Total lack of service, once pulled in. Typicall rip of tourist, does not matter they won't be back new tourist next week attitude. Never had this before on Madeira, even expensive tourist traps usually civil, and try to make it an occasion so you feel valued and don't mind paying a bit more for service. Very disappointed, salad bland, French fries overdone, food basically poor, Service very poor value for money extremely poor.

The best steak ever! Went here for my 40th birthday and was not dissapointed. The steak was perfectly cooked and came with salad and freshly made fries. The staff were great, friendly and very accomodating. I even got a complimentary glass of Madeira!

We saw the recommendations on trip advisor and decided to book. We were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere on the terrace and super service. The menu was varied with meat and fish. Including fresh fish of the day with snapper, parrotfish and scabbard fish. We ordered limpets to start and they came grilled on shell in butter and were lovely. We followed with excellent fillet steaks which melted in the mouth with a choice of salads, sweet potatoes, fries, boiled potatoes or-vegetables on the side. We followed with home made walnut cake and tiramisu. Lovely sangria and house wine to choose from. Nice mix of guests inc,using Portuguese which showed the quality of food. Highly recommended for a visit. Family owned with lovely hostess.

We were so pleased to discover this place, we had the nicest meal & best experience since we arrived in Madeira but at a very reasonable price. To start with with the staff are really genuine & friendly and we had a real good laugh with them. For our starters we had mushroom bruschetta & garlic bread, both perfect and the best bruschetta I have ever had. For our main course I had fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and my wife ordered fish with some really interesting vegetables, everything was cooked to perfection. We booked on line & got 30% of the food bill which I felt guilty taking, it was so good. We would recommend this little gem.

There were Not many tables occupied when we arrived, later it was Packed and any table getting vacated was quickly filled.
The greeting was very good, menus came quickly as did the drink request. We selected an avocado shrimp starter to share - delicious: the avocado was ripe and the shrimp had great texture and taste.
The main dish of mixed fish with seafood was fantastic. The tuna, whitefish, shrimp and mussels were tasty and had the right feel. The many mixed vegetables (cauliflower, beans, carrots) and potatoes complemented to dish well.
The Lao Reserve Chardonnay complemented this well. Lime Pie and Pashion fruit mousse were both great deserts.
We ended up having good discussions with neighbouring table couples. The ambience was great.
TheFork discount was substantial and was considered from start.

The food here is really good, we took the menú of the day for 15 euros pp and it included starter, main dish and dessert (no drinks). The beef was really tasty, juicy and soft. And the dessert was excellent - the passionfruit jelly, delicious! Also the staff is kind and helpful.

Loved this little restaurant and made it one of our most visited whilst in Funchal, great selection of dishes with locally caught fish always available. Loved the tuna steaks and the fillet steak with pepper sauce was cooked to perfection. Betty, Marco, NellieAnn and Alberto all added to the ambience and made our evening visits so enjoyable, highly recommended.

Good food but terrible service. We arrived at the restaurant and it was busy. Would have preferred a table indoors but none was available. As there was 6 of us the server had to pull a few tables together. He forgot to then set the table and half of us had no cutlery or napkins. We had to ask for these as well as salt and pepper to be brought to the table. My dad was nearly finished his meal by the time he got the salt.
When taking our order the server, who I think was the owner appeared distracted. This resulted in the order being served wrong. My mum asked for veg with her meal but this ended up coming on my wife’s plate. The meals all came at different times and I eventually had to ask for my meal as it never came. They did give 10% off my meal but at this stage it was too little too late for me.
As I said the food was good but unfortunately the service was poor. Not a good way to end the holiday.

It’s a testament to the great food in Funchal that a small cafe / restaurant like the Victoria produces such good food at a reasonable price. We ate the sea bream and sea bass and both were really well cooked and tasty. The chocolate mousse was superb, all accompanied with an enjoyable sangria. If you’re in the area, I’d recommend giving the Victoria a try.

Very Enjoyable Meal We had a really good experience here. It’s a slightly retro-style family restaurant, in a good way. Prices are very reasonable for both food and wine. There’s a good selection of both meat and fish dishes. Melon and ham starter had really sweet, excellent ham. My wife really enjoyed her avocado with prawns dish. But the main event was our shared “ Fish Rice with Shrimps” dish, a madeiran speciality and recommended by our excellent waiter, (who was no funster a drink all the better for that!)
Generous chunks of filleted fish with added prawns in a superb stock, the rice was amazing.
We shall certainly return. Ambience was welcoming; ( cant blame the resto but outside smoking in such a small space was a small irritant); but nothing could mar the wonderful overall experience.

This is not fine dining but mid priced homely cooking, and it made for a very pleasant evening.
Mushroom risotto was particularly good but none of the dishes are presented with any panache. Just basic tasty home cooking.
Popular though so clearly many like it like that.
