Delicious food, good price and welcoming staff.
Octopus was delicious. All the mains were accompanied with salad and cooked sweet/normal potatoes. Good to start with an amazing sangria of maracuja and happy ending with an excellent poncha.
Not all of my friends liked the poncha but they’re pussies so it doesn’t matter.
In 4 we paid 70£ with only 1 main meal each, garlic bread as a starter, 1 jug of sangria, 1 bottle of water and 4 coffee.
Nice view of Funchal.
Waitress was a gift because was always smiling and making jokes even if sometimes was a little bit too much, especially for my ex boyfriend but ya know he’s always been a pain so again it doesn’t actually matter 😂

We took a little adventure trip up the hill and went for some dinner in the Alta Vista. We were kindly welcomed by the sweet owner Dora who was such a sweetheart all evening, brought us blankets because we wanted to sit outside, recommended local foods/drinks and taught us some basic Portuguese words. On top of that we saw a beautiful sunset. The tomato soup, garlic bread (oh my soooooo yummy) and different fish dishes were awesome and very cheap. I strongly recommend coming here at least once while on Madeira, we will come back!!

The family who own this restaurant are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had the most delicious meal of black scabbard fish with salad, at a very reasonable price, washed down with a wonderful bottle of Portugese wine. The decor and restaurant are simple but it was exactly what we wanted.

Visited for lunch with my wife, inspired by the rating and the many positive ( Excellent ) comments, putting this restaurant in the top three at the time of our visit.
What a disappointment.
We sat on the balcony to have a table with a view! a very high position gives a huge vista across Funchal and beyond, in the distance, the view to the main city and port is blocked by the closed restaurant opposite, the immediate view is said restaurant opposite and the road junction, cars buses etc, I could barely contain my excitement!!!
Yes the lady that greeted us was very friendly and showed us to the table , guiding us to order the soup starter and fish dishes.
I ordered the soup, there was no explanation of what to expect neither that there was a tomato soup choice!
The soup I had was a mixed vegetable with small bits of different meats , we had already been served a Bolo do Caco with garlic butter. It was a very hearty meal in itself.
For the main meal I chose to have the Espetada , the chips were a separate order as we found on the bill at the end . I have to say this was very poor , it was served on a skewer but it was what seemed to me to be a piece of cow meat that had been fried or grilled and the cut and put on the skewer, if it was steak it was awful, unusually I didn’t finish my meal. To balance the review, my wife had the scabbard , which she enjoyed, although she ordered rice and got chips and it come with a side of salad.
Ordering from the menu was not as simple as pointing to a picture in their menu, the prices didn’t tie up on the pictures with a list in the rear of the menu.
I would say there was a convenient language barrier when the lady wanted it , ie the soup, the chips were extra and when she collected my half eaten meal I attempted to tell her it was poor but her interpretation was that I was full up.
What exactly puts this restaurant so high in the ratings eludes me.
Good views , good service, good food, far more places have plenty more to offer than this one.
Do not pin all hopes on a TA rating

This cute restaurant was our first stop when we first got into Madeira. Our host Dora was the sweetest and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. This included introducing us to basic Portuguese and even providing us with blankets as it was a bit chilly. The view is amazing from the outdoor seating and the food was a great introduction to the Portuguese cuisine. Definitely order the garlic bread and get some Poncha (best we had in our 5 day stay). We order way more food than we could eat and the total bill came to be $14/person ($28 total) which felt more than worth it. Will definitely revisit if we are ever back in Madeira. Thank you Dora!!!

Wonderful place! As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a big smile! Very pleasant service and cozy interior. The place evokes a traditional Madeira atmosphere without any over-the-top decorations. The waitress immediately recommended what to choose so we were very happy to be able to rely on a local's recommendation. The food was prepared very very quickly and it was amazing! We highly recommend the tomato soup and the sangria, we tried alternatives all over the island but nothing came close. Amazing! thank you for the kind welcome and delicious food!
Also, the prices and quality of the prices are very good, it was the cheapest place where we ate, the portions are very large

Damn I didnt even expect that this restaurant will be so good. The owner is absolutely delightful, we got our meals in 20 minutes, and their white sangria is the best alcohol drink I’ve ever tried this summer. Don’t hesitate, visit them!!!!

Great place - wonderful food 🥇 Homemade garlic bread from the “grand old man” of the owner of the restaurant - best in town. We also had a glass of sangria de Dora🍹👍 I highly recommend this restaurant. If you go there from Funchal Center the taxi ride amounts to approximately Euros 10 (15 minutes) or walking distance approximately one hour.
En restaurant som anbefales af en meget tilfreds dansker. 🫓🐟🍻👍

Our family arrived a little before dark and had the pleasure of watching the island light up when night fell. It was truly a wonderful view!
The staff is absolutely lovely and warm, and we ate a really wonderful garlic bread that leaves you wanting more! The rest of the food was delicious as well, and the restaurant had a really relaxing atmosphere. We can't recommend it enough!

When we had to drive up a very steep hill to get here, but it was worth it! We went around 7pm on a weekday and it wasn’t too busy. Greeted by Dora, who is such a lovely lady! We got the garlic bread and sangrias to start, delicious! I got the octopus and my husband got the espada with banana. Both were also delicious and there was a pretty generous portion. The price was very reasonable (even one of the cheaper ones) as well compared to some other dinners we had during the week. Overall a very pleasant experience and would recommend checking it out if you want some local food!

Caught the number 29 bus from funchal up here due to good reviews and were not disappointed. We were welcomed by a lovely host and we ordered a delicious bolo de caco (the best I've eaten). I had the espada fish which was delicious and served with salad and chips. O/H had a great pork dish served with rice, potatoes and salad. We sat on the balcony and had lovely views of funchal and the ocean. Lots of locals eating downstairs. Everyone friendly and welcoming. We will visit again.

We had a great time here, above Funchal. The welcome from the owner was really good, and the food was really accomplished, the fish dishes in particular were of a very high standard. It made a great change from the old town strip, highly recommended and accessible by bus…

In case you are not afraid of driving uphill on an extremely steep road (this is where all navigation are guiding you, otherwise there is also a bit longer, but normal double lane road) you will be amazed about the view in case you get a place on the second floor. Our waitress was charmfull and friendly, offering various drinks and serving some simple but tasty food in a home cooking style. A very good choice also from the budget's perspective.

At the recommendation of a friend we went to eat at this restaurant. The food was very good and the host very welcoming.
The host recommended us to eat on the terrace upstairs to enjoy the view.
We started with bolo do caco, a special bread made in Madeira with garlic. Excellent.
Then I ate espada fish, my husband octopus in red sauce with onion, and the boy the typical Madeira omlete.
For dessert we had chocolate mousse and passion fruit pudding.
All was very good and at the correct price. We will try to go again in the next few days 🤩
Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures, we were too preoccupied to eat 😀

The place is located near the Botanical Garden. With a wonderful view! I definitely recommend the maracuja sangria, which is really good and special! We started dinner with a garlic bolo du caco and really good house soups. There were 7 of us and we tried multiple dishes, all really good and cooked by the owner's parents who is really nice and makes you feel comfortable! Also the desserts very good!
I recommend this place to everyone who is in Madeira!!!
