Excellent food, great service, good atmosphere, fair prices. This was our favourite restaurant in Madeira and the one we kept coming back to. Everything we tried on the menu, from steak sandwich and burgers to grilled fish was cooked to perfection. A simple menu, perfect cooking, attentive service.
We tried many other restaurants on the island, all of them more expensive and many of them highly recommended, but every time we were so disappointed and just regretted not sticking with our favourite: Bela 5.

Unaccustomed to writing reviews, but sometimes exceptional food, service, pricing and quality needs to be acknowledged. This local restaurant offers the very best of Madeira cuisine, at an affordable price. The menu is simple, but customers are able to modify this by discussion and negotiation with the multilingual staff, in particular Carlos, educated beyond his comprehension. The Chef & mastermind behind the establishment, ‘Leno ’ , is very affable, and with support of his good lady provide unrivalled value and superb food. Typically mains are priced at €8.00, the bill for two is usually less than €25.00 inclusive of all drinks and sides, great value.
The establishment is not difficult to find, just two blocks back from the cable car to Monza, Road : Bela Rue.
You will not be disappointed, no need to book, just turn up and enjoy the excellent food; takeaways are also facilitated. Open early doors , till late in the day. My favourite, rather unexpectedly was the lunchtime offering of a Beefburger with a medium size Coral beer, €5.00
Go ahead and treat yourself, you will not be disappointed.

The best place in Madeira to eat local food. We've been to many places around the island and haven't tried anything tastier, than here. The chef/owner puts his soul in every dish and cares deeply for you to like it. Be prepared, that sometimes you should wait a little for a check or for a waiter to clean your table, because there is one person serving all tables, but all of this does not matter, you should go for the great food and atmosphere

Great place to eat…ended up eating there 3 times on my trip. My host recommended I’d go as him and his family go often. Great mix of tourists and locals. The staff were very accommodating, the food was incredibly tasty and unbelievably cheap!

Found this place after seeing it reviewed on You Tube and it did not disappoint. We went at lunch time when it was quiet, but within 15 minutes people were waiting outside to be seated. We had the home made tomato soup with the bolo de caco, a prego, passionfruit cheesecake and beers which were all delicious very reasonably priced and with great service. A great no frills place well worth a visit.

Great service and even better food. Highly recommended. Top quality food at affordable prices.
The fish is really fresh and well grilled. The prego (steak sandwich) in bolo de caco is amazing and exceptionally good value for money.

Friendly owner & staff, great selection of fish & meats prepared the traditional way. We ate there couple of times & invited others. Arroz marinero was one of many options that we had there. Will be back for sure!

We called in for lunch early in the week after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed. It’s quite a simple cafe, but very clean, and serves good quality local food and drinks. We had sardines and espada with fries and salad. All of the food was excellent and the sardines were probably the best I’ve ever had. The waiter was welcoming and explained the menu in good detail. There were a few tables free when we arrived but it filled up quickly with a mix of visitors and locals. Well worth going if you want good quality, fresh local fish for a sensible price.

Recommended by friends and enticed by reviews we came to this restaurant with very high expectations.
Unfortunately if we came out disappointed.
After waiting for more than half an hour outside the restaurant (calculated wait, not a problem) we were seated at a table.
The wait for food almost exaggerated.
I had the rice with seafood: flavor maybe even good, but it was covered by the very strong cilantro flavor. Unfortunately, inside the dish was quite a lot of sand and pieces of shell that did not allow me to enjoy my dinner.
Instead, my friend ordered the Espada and discovered, after more than 15 minutes, that it was no longer available.
She then asked for rice, but it too was out of stock.
Was thus forced to eat the only thing the kitchen offered.
At least the local beer was good, a bit expensive (6 euros for a bottled beer).
I hope it was just an unfortunate evening!

What a charming little bar. Simple and delicious, with super friendly owners and waiters. We ate here twice and ordered multiple types of fish (the lady even brought them over on a plate to show the choice of the day) and the octopus stew. 5*!

We ate at Snack Bar Bela 5 last night and were absolutely delighted. Rua Bela Sao Tiago is parallel to the famous Rua Santa Maria but a short distance makes an enormous difference in price!
We had 1 tomato soup and garlic bread to start followed by sea bass for himself and entremeada (grilled belly pork) for me. Perfect portions, a choice of chips or rice and veg or salad. 500ml of house white (v good) and 500ml of white sangria (also v good) and one of us had a fresh made poncha (delicious if potent). All of that came to less than €40 - a third of what we'd have paid on Santa Maria.
Yes it looks a little unassuming, very basic in fact. But friendly and tasty food at incredibly reasonable prices. All cooked freshly for us. We'll be back!

Perfectly cooked fresh sardines to share between us followed by sea bass again excellently cooked with a delicious whole Prawn. Home made chips and garlic bread. Simple good food with no frills but all the taste. Popular with locals and tourists, good prices. The chef even came to check we enjoyed our food.

It's an inconspicuous place with few tables inside. We're welcomed by the pair od two older owners (we guess). The couple was hospitable and communicate easly despite not knowing English well.
On the wall we found the names of currently served fishes and meats. We chose locas ones: estepada and chicharros🐠. They were absolutely delicious❗served with chips, salad and beer. Price was very attractive for such a wonderful meals.
When we come back to Madeira, it will be the first bar that we will visit again. That's the real Madeira 💕

This place was a nice discovery. Nice, easy going, simple food but well prepared. Both fish and meat are well grilled, service is welcoming and fast and prices honest.
One of the few places where we did not feel "scammed" as tourists. We ended up going twice to have dinner becouse of it. Our favorite dish were the shrimps.

The hardworking team produce the most delicious food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
We ate here four times during our stay and enjoyed every minute. The Chef works tirelessly and the Waiters are all exceptionally friendly. and all great fun too! Well done!! Thanks for looking after us!
