My family and I always come here when we visit Funchal. A lovely stop for drinks, ice creams and best of all, the fabulous cheese & meat boards. Such friendly staff, a gorgeous walk along the levada to reach this cafe and it is fantastic value for money. We will be back!

We visited this beautiful little friendly bar upon chance on the last day of out holiday back in October and couldn’t wait to return. Superb service and very friendly staff. They do the best Ponchas! Popular with the locals, it’s a must of you are in Funchal. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻

Cute little place for a drink or snack in San martinho, a part of Funchal near a levada. Try the toasts/sandwiches which are very nice. Service is also very friendly and quick!

Popped in for a coffee during a lavada walk. We had a couple of good coffees and sat outside in a nice shaded seating area. Very well worth popping in if walking along the lavada

First can I suggest you take the previous 2* review earlier in the year As maybe not understanding what these bars frequented by locals are about. This is real Madeira, not something sanitised for tourists. as I do not believe it fairly represents the bar.
It is basic but clean with good toilet facilities which I believe is a good test of hygiene.
We walked as part of a group from near the stadium in Funchal for a flow meander along the urban Levada.
Location 4/5 great on the Levada & not too dreadful a haul up from Estrada Momumental near Espettus restaurant. Fantastic views up to Church of Sao Marthino and over to Cabo Girao.
Service 5/5 run by two lovely ladies speaking impeccable English but allowed me to try to order and pay in pigeon Portuguese.
Food & Drink. 5/5 . Only had x3 poncha do cannot comment on good but it is good quality cost for x3 poncha tangerina €9; marginally more expensive than Poncha da Rei but still good value.
So value for money 4/5
Cleanliness 4/5
This is a bar for locals so will be different from some of the more sterile places in central Funchal or Lido but that is a good reason to come here. Real Madeira; try it.

Called in tonight, 05/02/19 at 17;15. It looked scruffy, with disinterested bar staff, more concerned with there own interests, than others. After two 330cc glasses of beer was charged 4.40 euros, which is on par with the rip off prices down town. I can only imagine previous reviewers have lived very sheltered lives, and probable this was their first visit to any bar anywhere, never mind Madeira!

It didnt look very welcoming as we approached it on our levada walk, but the service was friendly and beer was good, so don't be put off.

This little gem is half way along the easy lavada from Funchal to Lambada. It is located where it is crossed by a road at Amparo. It is on several bus routes to take you back to Funchal if you are tired or if you have over indulged. It is a place full of character (and characters when I visited last Sunday). It is good for a coffee and also beer and snacks all of which are good value. Never seen water driven lights before (visit the back). This is a must place to stop and the family run place is so friendly.

On the Levada dos Piornais walk close to Funchal. We've enjoyed the walk 3 times now and each time spent half an hour here. If you find the start of the Levada, close to the upper end of the main stadium to the west of Funchal, then you'll eventually walk straight in to this cafe; it's about a third of the way along so is perhaps a better place to catch on the way back. Pleasant family cafe.

We happened upon Casa da Levada as we were on one of our many walks up and down the hills of Funchal, so we decided to stop for a much needed cold beer. The beers arrived with a couple of menus and as it was nearly noon we order a toasted sandwich and a wrap - both were very tasty. The outdoor area is really cute and the inside is charming too - its definitely worth stopping if your walking the Levada, which we decided to do after our pitstop or you just need a break from sightseeing.

We came across this place on our first day of travels and fell in love with it. The food is really good tasting and you feel very welcome to be there. We visited it perhaps 4 or 5 times during our 2 week trip.
