Fantastic. Went for Valentine's day taster evening with wine. The food was outstanding so much so I went to shake the chefs hand! The wine kept flowing too. Everyone was engaging and attentive and the restaurant inside has a special atmosphere when busy as it...was last night. Expensive it was, but then sometimes you get what you pay for.More

The best food I have had in years. Excellent service and the old salt warehouse is a great place to have a restaurant. Very high-quality food at 1/3 the price it would be in the UK. Very easy to walk past the entrance as it...is narrow.More

What can I say about our favourite restaurant it was amazing from start to finish. We missed Tania but our wee other friends Barbara and Erica were exceptional as always, treating us to the best reception and food. It was my birthday and they made...it out of this world with their humour and welcoming smiles and hugs. The food was unbelievable from the amuse bouche to the desserts and finally our coffees. Their choice of wines by our beautiful sommelier Barbara was so perfect. That girl knows her wines. Thank you also to Saulina and Edmelson who were brilliant at their job. Please choose this restaurant you will never be disappointed and I promise you wil leave with a happy stomach and the greatest smile on your face. We cannot wait to return to this place and to our favourite island Madeira.More

We went to dinner on Jan 19. The individual attention given by the wait staff was very attentive as individuals but the overall coordination was exceptionally poor. After waiting 25 minutes for dessert I called the person who seemed to be the ranking person of...the wait staff. Immediately our desserts were delivered along with 6 at an adjacent table. Obviously, no one was paying attention. Instead of an apology when it was delivered the same senior person said "Of course it had to be baked". The item was chocolate volcano and was totally at room temperature when delivered, so the baking excuse was totally bogus. The food was quite interesting and well prepared, but the service seriously detracted from the overall experience. This was by far the most expensive meal we had in Funchal. The least expensive meal we had in Funchal was at 100 Montaditos and far more satisfying. We would not go back, nor recommend to anyone.More

Great food. Good service. Chose the gastronomic tasting menu with wine flights - it was superb. With extra drinks for such a good standard we thought €235 was good value for such a culinary delight in lovely atmosphere. The website does not do this restaurant...justiceMore

This is a beautiful restaurant with impeccable service and very great food! It is quiet and has lovely ambience! The downside is that the wine was the most expensive or overpriced that we saw. We rejected the first bottle and the next more expensive one...was still not very good at 45 Euros.More

Lunchtime in the Armazem has been a highlight of our holidays in previous years - this time it was a lowlight. First off, the waitress tried to get us to order from the a la carte menu and we had to insist on the lunchtime...specials we always have. Then, after we indicated we would like a bottle of white wine, the wine waiter just turned up with a an apparently random bottle. We had to insist on seeing the wine list so we could choose for ourselves. After pouring us each a glass, that was the last we saw of him. When we wanted to replenish our glasses I had to get up from my seat and cross the walkway to get our wine from the ice bucket. Why couldn't it have been located within reach? Did they hope we'd leave a nearly full bottle so they could resell it by the glass? When it came to settle the bill, it came to 61.80 euros. Fair enough, I rounded it up to 70 for service (Hah!) and reached for the notes in my wallet. The waitress thrust the card reader at me and was extremely reluctant to accept cash. Without my realising it, she also swapped the amount payable to GBP, thus incurring an unfavourable conversion rate PLUS 5%. Foolishly I paid by card. I dislike high pressure sales techniques, and I hate being scammed. Although the food was delicious, the experience left a bad taste. The Armazem has just lost a previously loyal customer.More

The overall experience did not match the gastronomic experience the restaurant were telling about via their website as we had read. We had chosen the gastronomic tour menu. It did not live up to the expectations. It was a bit boring, there was not enough...food, and the taste and flavours of each plate were in too many different directions, resulting in a confusing experience. So, we felt the quality did not match the price. The waitors could not speak english, with exception of one waitor. It resulted in the presentation of the food being redundent. The service could be better, only one of the waitors understood this. Finally, we found it odd that there was no alternative to alcohol, such as mucktails or something else that is not fizzy drinks.More

We didn't have a booking, but had no problem getting a table on a Sunday evening in December. Such a beautiful building inside, with exposed stone walls and beams. Some staff seemed quite serious and formal. The waitress didn't check if I was vegetarian, despite...ordering a vegan meal so when the amuse bouche arrived and was cod I declined, but it was changed for a beetroot offering, which was nice. Bread cover was choice of 2 breads, unlike other restaurants where there has been more variety. DH had cod for main course and I had barley salad with tempura vegetables. Both were very good. For dessert we had a pavlova to share. One of the set menus displayed on the board outside the restaurant was not on the menu, which was a shame as we may have chosen that instead. A comprehensive wine list, both by the bottle and glass. We chose a glass of red Douro and a white Madeiran. We ordered a bottle of water, which wasn't left on the table, but glasses were topped up by the waiters when they noticed your glass needed refilling. Personally I prefer to pour my own water as and when I am ready, but maybe that's just me ;)More

Had a good meal here in 2022, so booked for the special Xmas Eve meal in 2023. What a disappointment. Too many failures to list individually. Lack of seasoning was a major fault, e.g potatoes NEED salt. Hot dishes were not hot. Duck skin should...be crisp, not soggy. The wine waiter was good; perhaps he'd been told to keep it flowing so the clients would be too drunk to notice the faults with the food.More

Great restaurant We had the extra value menu which was indeed good value if compared to individual dishes. The starter main course and dessert were all good. It was such a shame that the amuse bouche was so dry it was pointless to serve and...the petit fours served with the coffee were very poor. Spoilt what was otherwise a lovely meal.More

We booked this for my husband’s birthday which was the following day and could not have chosen a better place to celebrate. We booked a table outside and were by the the doorway of the inside restaurant so had the best of both worlds. We...went for the tasting menu - ‘Gastronomic Tour’ and the wine flight. To say the food was amazing is an understatement. We adore food and this blew us away. Every dish was a taste sensation and we loved every second of our time here. The staff and service are exceptional. This is one of those experiences we will talk about for years to come and we cannot wait to return to this absolutely fabulous restaurant.More

Everything contributes to an excellent dining experience: from the imaginative cuisine to the dining room design and to the very competent service. Their take on the traditional Espada com Banana elevated the authentic dish to a delicacy. The sommelier provided us with both white and...red recommendations that truly suited our palates as well as our food. Service was attentive and helpful.More

In the evening there was a mixed crowd with many of the older guests wearing smart casual (shirts, trousers) but many guests were in jeans/cotton trousers and trainers. It's not super formal.
