We stopped in without a reservation. It is a bit of a challenge (for those with walking challenges) to get down the steep walk to the restaurant's entrance but there is a rail. The gentleman who served us was so kind and informative. We had...a bottle of Syrah (one of his favorites), and it was a perfect recommendation with our dinner. The pappardelle was absolutely fresh, with fresh tomatoes, and cheese. delicious! The tomatoes were the chef, Michele's pride. The restored interior was gallery-like with eclectic decor, very fun yet cozy. Beautiful presentation, attention to detail, wonderful flavors, and fantastic service.More

The restaurant is hidden in a small alley but definetely worth visiting. The food was all fresh, delicious and we got great help in choosing a bottle of wine. The chef and owner, Mrs. Michele, personally came to our table. She has a real passion...for her job and you can taste that in her food. Go there when you are in the neighbourhood.More

Amazing food created by this creative, female chef. One of the best food experiences we have had during our trip in Tuscany.

Magic, everything was magic, we were in a dream. Looked like a private table in this beautiful town. The Lady behind the scenes made us really wanna put a face on the fantastic dishes that came out of the kitchen. Definitely our number one from...all our 2 weeks in Italy. Thank you, we could feel the love everywhere, and also we were welcomed like friends. Brava!More

And I spend a lot of time in Cortona! I love eating at Sartu for many reasons, one of them being that the chef is a woman and she is very creative, from the clever "titles" of the dishes on the menu to her unique...interpretations of classic dishes. I've eaten there three times now, and each time I notice such care in each bite. The pappardelle with ragu (something you'll find all over Tuscany) is some of the best, most deeply flavored I've ever had. The meat is always flavorful and perfectly cooked. The desserts are always a sweet ending; I still think about her cinnamon creme brulee all the time. It's great for groups and solo diners; there are a couple of outdoor tables and the interior is cozy and nicely decorated with art. I love it!More

We were the first people to arrive for lunch, however the waiter first tried to seat us right by the kitchen door. When we left, 2 other tourist couples had joined us in the almost empty dining room. No Italians ate here this Wednesday, I...think the restaurant is probably too expensive for lunch in Cortona for the locals. Our waiter wore a pair of beaten up white gloves, and was noticeably slow. We finally received 3 slices of bread towards the end of our second course. No wine is sold by the glass or carafe, one must buy a whole bottle. The food was excellent, however I felt everything from the service to to the food was a bit pretentious. I would not return, especially since the wonderful Ristorante Preludio is a 5 minute walk away, where for the same price of lunch at Sartu, you are treated like a king with the most delicious and beautiful looking foodMore

So charming! Delicious food in a charming and elegant restaurant. The two people who work there, the waiter and chef, made us feel like we were having a home cooked meal in an adorable Italian home. Loved it!
