The restaurant was recommended by the hotel i was staying in nearby, the pasta was lovely and the wine selection was great. If you can not finish a bottle, you can cork it and take it with you. Also the service was ver nice, the best desert was the fruit of the forest torte.

Nice selection of dishes, good portion sizes (not skimpy) and friendly service on a quiet little campiello. Seafood and meats; decent wine list. A nice family place with decent prices.

Was looking for somewhere very close to our Hotel in Santa Croce and stumbled across this. Excellent choice veggie and fish dishes so worked well for me. Can definitely recommend the Vegetarian Lasagne made with Soya - really tasty. House Red wine was fine and meal overall was good value (by Venice Standards!).

We visited La Lanterne following great reviews on Trip Advisor and we agree with their judgment. Very well worthwhile. We both had the sea bass cooked in a crust of sea salt - must be ordered for 2. Very good indeed.

I enjoyed everything about this restaurant! All of our dishes were unforgettable, we've been talking about our amazing experience ever since. In fact, we think this was the best food we had in Venice. The staff was so friendly and they seemed really happy we were eating there. We wish we had more time to go back and try more... More

Enjoyed both the service and the food. Completely worth the price. I had meat but i saw both seafood and fish with amazingly tasting looks being served.

Cozy and calm atmosphere. We got ravioli and the fried fish dish and salmon. All very tasty. We had other seafood in Venice and it was very salty. Not here. Food was tastefully done. House red wine was also very good. Service was wonderful! We were seated right away although everyone after us was turned away. Definitely recommend a reservation.

We choose this restaurant for lunch. Asked on trip adviser reviews and we were not disappointed. Friendly service and tasty food made from quality ingredients.

The restaurant has a 7pm and a 9pm sitting. You must have a reservation. We both had the flounder done Mediterranean style. Probably one of the best fish dishes we have ever had! The service was impeccable and the suggested wine was excellent with the dinner. A charming, nicely decorated small restaurant, out of the way down a side street.... More

I rarely write restaurant reviews since I tend to be very critical. This lunch today at La Lanterna is an exception. We had a sea bass course for two that was exceptional -- Branzino al Sale con Dadolata di verdure (sea bass cooked in a salt pastry crust with vegetables.) Moist, tender, delicate. An exceptional fish course. At 25 Euro... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
