After only a couple of days in Venice I was about to start screaming if I saw another plate of spaghetti alle vongole--which I normally love, but let's say the overexposure took something away from my appreciation of this classic. Then we got lost and as we were debating whether we should cancel our reservations at a different place, walked... More

We came here for dinner during our stay in Venice mainly due to the positive reviews. We ordered 2 of their popular appetizers, the baby squid, and scallop. and both were delicious. We've never been served the entire scallop before and it was a very nice culinary experience. For entree, we ordered a fish dish, but then was told they... More

This tiny local restaurant is a real favourite of ours. There is an excellent range of fairly priced wines by the glass. The shrimp (langustine sized) starter was delicious. We had a superb seasonal asparagus and swordfish ravioli. We don't usually manage desserts but the home made tiramisu was fabulous as was the home made chocolate and almond cake, both... More

Just spent two weeks in Venice. After a while, the menus all look the same. Walked by this restaurant and read the menu in the window. Was impressed with the creativity applied to the Venetian cuisine. Booked and dined here on our last evening. This is a small restaurant, I would say 16 guests at a time. The food lived... More

Deservedly well rated, Trefanti is a gem. Seating only 24-27, reservations are essential. SA, apparently part owner, sommelier, and Padrone speaks English and is welcoming and helpful. There is an excellent wine list focusing on quality. Service was accurate, attentive and timely. We had an excellent and somewhat obscure Trebbiano Spoletino and sampled the menu. Every dish showed thought, skill,... More

Another very good Restaurant in Venice but not to be confused as a gourmet place. The food is good but not great. Wine list is ordinary.

This was our very first meal in Italy. I am a foodie, so i spent a lot of time to do research! This one is defintely a gem in Venice! This restaurant located in a quite area in Venice, not in a tourist spot. So the price is very reasonable and the food quality is high. Many people said Venice... More

We get a recomndation for this restaurant, and first impression was fantastic. Nice environment with pleasant service, completely full, people had to wait for table outside. Also starters was fine, but main courses Sea bass and Turbot were disappointed. Both fish looked same, both was sprinkled with some dry spices, and the taste of fish was lost....service tried save a... More

As noted by previous visitors, this is a great place. Let them pick the wine - they are passionate and have a wide selection of wines, including from many organic, small-production vineyards throughout Italy. The menu is all seafood and varies with the catch and the seasons. On our plates were marinated shrimp with smoked paprika (a touch) and baby... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
