Food was good and fresh, yet a bit pricey and small portions. service was not able to treat all customers in the same fair way, some got a free grappa after paying, others did not. they have a short time slot for your table, so expect the next customers already waiting at your table before you're finished.

We made a reservation for dinner following a recommendation from the owners of a local wine bar Malvasia all' Adriatico Mar. (I can also highly recommended them and have reviewed them Separately). The restaurant is very popular and you can understand why when you experience the food, wine and service. Our dinner here will go down as a very memorable... More

great osteria with only fish and seefood, if you're looking for a little bit more refined dining, away from the crowds. Very inventive and original dishes, they arranged something special for our 10 year old - not so adventurous - daughter and service was extremely friendly. Would definitely recommend.

What a wonderful little restaurant we found in Venice! My girlfriend did a booking for our birthday thinking this place was quite special. But she is wrong, because it's very very special! Quiet location (you really appreciate that after being in crazy rialto bridge or crowded piazza San Marco). The restaurant is small (7-8 tables) so is well recommended to... More

We were looking forward to enjoying some great seafood, as other reviewers here had promised. But both my wife's turbot and my swordfish were plain, thin and pretty tasteless - a very lame way to start our holiday in Venice. We ate much better after this, and we think you could do better at most everyday restaurants in the city.... More

This restaurant focuses on a limited speciality menu of the day (fish and seafood) and it takes a bit of probing to find about about the mysterious sides and vegetables (which are not mainstream). We had two different types of fish - which were fresh and quite appetizing, without being the best meal we've ever had and small portions. Wine... More

The food was good, also the service, but the portions were tiny. I don't eat much, but I was still hungry after appetizer and main course (baby octopus and ravioli).

Fabulous local restaurant not to far from the train station. We made a reservation a few weeks in advance and glad we did as there was only space for one walk-in which someone was queuing for at 18:50. The food quality is great - fresh ingredients and a very Venetian menu (no pizza or lasagne in sight!). The food isn't... More

Very nice ravioli asparagus stuffed with seafood followed by monkfish and seabass. Wine was very nice and the staff friendly.

We returned to our favourite restaurant in Venice. This is a tiny place and it is essential to book as they are very busy. Lovely scallops and the most delicious marinated shrimps to start followed by simple grilled fillets of sole and sea bass. We were also given a small plate of seafood risotto which was fantastic. Also very good... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
