We visited in March on recommendation of our tour guide of the Venice free walking tour. We had a pasta recommendation and a pizza with a starter salad. Positive is, that it is off the beaten track and doesn't immediately strike you a tourist trap. The waiter was friendly and tried his best to make us feel welcome. That's about... More

Not a very nice welcome. Pushing us to place an order for drinks right away. Frozen food, over rated, bad pizza quality. Asking for a tip in cash at the end, despite the fact that we paid 2€/person as a cover charge. Simply ridiculous. Don't go, you can find better restaurants for sure.

Do I love this small restaurant. If you're were looking out for a fancy overpaid diner, then please stay away. But if you like to eat what the locals eat, than this is the place to go. The quality of the food is superb and it come for a good price. Friendly staff. The restaurant can be a bit hard... More

I chose this place because it is recommended in the 2013 Rough Guide to Venice and the Veneto. The best aspect of the restaurant for me is that it is off the beaten track. I had lunch there today and there were just a few local working people in dining. I was offered a set menu, two courses for €18.... More

Discovered this fantastic restaurant on our wanders around the less touristy side of Venice - and what a discovery. As we view the menu, the door opened and we were warmly invited in - no option ! Spritze for a refresher, then the set menu for us both of spaghetti Bolognese and beef Goulash washed down with a wonderful Fruilani... More

This was my first taste of Venetian cuisine and what a delight it was. Helped that I was with my aunt whose been visiting Venice for ages. House specialties include the whipped cod fish (baccala), squid in ink (seppi), baked polenta, batter fried anchovies, shrimp (gamberi) . Service was prompt and with a smile no less. Best time to drop... More

We went to this restaurant without prior planning and arrived around 7pm. We were the first once there but Mimo (waiter) and Franco (chef and wine expert) took really great care of us:)) we had a mix of grilled fish which was awesome and also tomato pasta. Both dishes was excellent and plus the wine Amareto made our evening:))

Very good little place away from the tourist traps. Amazing looking Italian menu, with lots of fish and pizza. Service was great. Prices were fairly steep, but nothing over the odds.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
