We enjoyed the 7 course dinner with wine selection and it was a very good choice. The starter "crab in the sand" was great and the Ravioli with Coquilles St. Jaques delicious. The different local wines were a great combination because it gave us a good overview of wines from Veneto. We can strongly recommend a dinner in Riviera!

I took my partner as a birthday treat and we loved it. It was pricey but the food was extremely well presented and had plenty of flavour. Portions small but as it's a set menu I quite like not being too full after a starter. We went for the fish and mussels then the risotto. The fresh homemade bread to... More

This review is late and I feel guilty about it. Not only is the food amazing, but the service is beyond belief! The owner not only came to specifically say hello, but when we left he could not be found. We started walking back towards our hotel and he came running after us to express his appreciation and wanted to... More

I have been to some of these extremely expensive restaurants, and I allways wonder: why are they so overrated? The dishes are too small. After having spent a fortune, you will still be hungry. And really: the different ingredients are not especially tasty. Spices are hardly used, neither salt. The potoes were horrible: soft inside, and burned. The trimmings for... More

Dear Morten J, if you please, allow me one little question: If you find that “these extremely expensive restaurants” are always “so overrated”, why do you insist to visit them?! Isn't it obvious that this kind of Restaurants have a language that is not exactly yours? I mean here that you mention you need more salt, more spices (and so... More

A lovely restaurant on the Zattere in Venice, overlooking the Giudecca Canal, this place is a gem. The ambiance is subdued and elegant. The patrons are considerate of one another and mercifully quiet. The Menu is traditional Venetian and the food preparation is outstanding. The wine list is extensive. Service is professional, attentive and cheerful. The owner is active, greeting... More

Was my wife's 50th birthday and when I told them they made a special Tiramisu for her. The overall meal was expensive but worth every penny. Food utterly fantastic for adults and kids. They had fresh gluten free bread for my son and gluten free pasta. Atmosphere relaxed, so kids felt comfortable, but excellent for a romantic meal too. Owner... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Riviera, having had some amazing food that remained true to the traditions of the area but contemporary enough to move with the times. Wine pairing was good too, focusing on Northern Italian and surrounds wines. The service was excellent, and it's great to see such a hands on owner taking the time to... More

We were recommended this restaurant by Ca' Maria Adele, the hotel we were staying at, as a good place to celebrate 20 years wedding anniversary. And it didn't disappoint: great food, excellent service, friendly staff and intimate atmosphere made this evening truly special! Highly recommended as a place for romantic dinner.

We decided to have lunch at Riviera based on its excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and were very happy with that decision. We were seated at a table right on the edge of the water, in the sun, and it could not have been more relaxing. The food was great, high quality and bigger portion sizes than expected. The wine... A must reservation for anyone going to Venice. The owner is a Ringo Starr look-a-like who is charming and sets the atmosphere once you arrive at the restaurant. The food was fabulous and the service was first rate. We plan to go back to the Riviera on our next visit to Venice.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
