We were staying at the adjacent campsite and as this looked a nice place we tried it out.
We tend to eat earlier so when we arrived just after the evening opening they were a bit surprised to see us. Perhaps because of this we found the service to be a bit slow - although we did not mind that. The waitresses did not speak any English but we thought that a good sign in that, as we found, all their other customers were locals.
Their specialities are seafood dishes but whilst we had both seafood and meat dishes in the times we went here, we found everything to be beautifully cooked, well prepared and all delicious. The waitresses were nice and friendly and tried hard to understand us - the second time we went they recognised us and found an English translation of the menu.
The outside eating was nice - they do have inside eating as well - but even though they had mosquito coils around the place you do need insect protection.
It is not a cheap place by any means - but so nice it was worth the extra.

So good we visited twice! Some excellent dishes, very good sea food. Lovely side salad (skip the hot vegetables) and deserts. Recommended

I had to spend a night in Aquileia on a business trip and found La Capannina thanks to Trip Advisor. The place appears cozy, despite a questionable decor, and the table settings are elegant. The menu gives you the impression to be in the wrong place (it is a standard printout covered by plastic), and so does the wine list. But the fish-based food (tagliolini with shrimp and mushrooms, and skate) and the bottle of ribolla gialla were perfect. The price for two was less than €90.
I would go back anytime.

The seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection. I had a whole fish, my wife had the Prawns. Add a white Sauvignon and some spinach for a wonderful meal. We are going back tonight!

We were staying at nearby Agriturismo and this restaurant was recommended. Turned up on Saturday night and it was fairly busy. Waited for ages before we saw a member of staff as did a number of Italians who wanted to pay. We were turned away even though they had empty tables outside. Based on the what we saw i.e. total lack of service I doubt we will be trying this place again.

I sincerely advise everyone traveling in the area to have a lunch or dinner in this simple yet cosy restaurant. Everything we ate (both on and off menu) was delicious!

Arrived at 9 pm, but the staff asked us to leave as they were too busy and did not want to serve us anymore. Strange as the terras was not even full.
We are Dutch and usually eat a lot earlier compared to South-Europeans so for us it was an interesting experience that in Italy they do not want to serve you anymore after 9 pm.....?
It's a pity though as most reviews about the food were good. We will however never taste that food.... ..

A treat is in store for those of you who love your seafood! The Cappannina serves an excellent choice of fish dishes with fish caught fresh from nearby Grado.
The Spaghetti vongole is delicious as well as the Calamari Fritte and the Grilled fish plate. The wines are local Friuli wines and of course there are treats for the children.
The prices are very reasonable and sitting out in the garden on a summers day is special.

Probably the best in town. We have been here two years ago, food and service are still excellent. Typical Italian place the waitress doesn't even speak English, nice and authentic.

walked there from our hotel in aquileia (alla basilica). a little hard to find--sign by our hotel had tiny writing stating to turn at the next light--easy to miss. once we walked a ways and were about to give up, we saw it. waitress did not speak any english, so some of the meal was a surprise (part of the fun of traveling). our food was very good, and the wine (a local red) was too. wonderful dessert--very big, so glad that we split it). total bill a bargain.

We have been there and enjoyed the place very much. Despite the late night arrival, we had a special dinner with a kind service. Fresh seefood, delicious pasta, fantastic desert.
I can just recommend this place!

We've been living in Italy for about six months and took a day trip to Aquilea. By the time we arrived we were hungry and stopped at the first place we saw, which turned out to be the perfect spot. The woman working there didn't speak any English, but was patient as we used our limited Italian. The house wine was fantastic, our meals were divine—some of the best we've had since being in Italia—and we paid much less than we expected for the meal we received.
The "gnocchi di zucca in crema di Montasio" was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked and you could actually taste a hint of pumpkin—most gnocchi di zucca's we've had don't taste a thing like pumpkin. The real gem from that dish was the sauce—it was smooth, creamy, and the flavoring from the cheese made us want to lick the plate clean.
We also recommend the "spaghetti ai frutti di mare." I realized, after eating this, that just about every single time I've had seafood in a restaurant it's been overcooked. The mix of seafood was impressive and every single piece was perfectly cooked and tender. The sauce was also light, but extremely flavorful and complimented the seafood well.
We also tried the "scampi ai ferri" and it exceeded our expectations. The six large shrimps came out pipping hot (heads still on) and were the most tender shrimp I've ever tasted. Squirt a little lemon juice over it and enjoy.
We can't wait to return here the next time we're in Aquilea!

Near the ancient River Port of Aquileia, a few steps from the Early Christian Museum is this restaurant, with elegant and refined room. The service is kind, considerate and professional, the atmosphere pleasant and quiet. The dishes, especially fish, many of local reinterpretation, excellent and well served, denote an expert and refined hand on raw materials of excellent quality. Appropriate wine list with good local labels. Overall a great value for money. In our short stay in Aquileia, we gladly returned to have lunch in this very pleasant restaurant. Recommended.
