We stopped here around noon to grab a coffee and something to drink. They asked us if we want a table outdoors or inside, we settled for an indoors table. We asked if it is ok if we only order drinks and the first guy...who served us said that there's no problem. After we got our drinks a different guy came to take our food order. We told him we're here just for drinks and he got angry, took everything on our table away (except for our drinks) and told us that we need to stay outside if we don't eat. We told him that we already asked about that, but we will gladly move if that's their policy and grabbed our glasses to go outside. He then told us to relax and finish our drinks first. It should be noted that the restaurant was pretty empty, with only one other table occupied, so we weren't taken any precious space and we would have appreciated if they would have owned their initial mistake and not berate us. After a few minutes, the same guy comes to our table and slams the check on our table and immediately rushes away. We did not request it at this time and he didn't even wait for us to pay. I had to flag him down again to ask to pay. Extremely rude behavior. Also, their toilets look like no one cleaned them in a while.More

We went there with a plan to have a dinner. After we got our drinks we noticed that everyone got the little snacks with their drinks but we didn’t . I asked the waiter if we could get some and he said sure I’ll get...you some.Well, it never arrived and we decided to go somewhere else for dinner And I recommend you do too.More

Drinks were the best part, they did a nice job with that. The meat and cheese tray was uninspiring and quite plain. While the pasta noodles were very well prepared, the sauces (carbonara) were disappointing. The worst part was the waiter accosting me for a...tip even after paying the service fees. He wanted to know how much extra I wanted to have added onto the credit card I was using for payment. I told him nothing, and that I would leave cash. He didn't like that and kept asking me how much extra to add on while yelling in Italian to a coworker. Finally he realized that I wasn't going to add anything and I handed him 3 euros as I left. I've never had an experience like that in a restaurant - especially not in Italy!More

My husband and I stayed up the street from this restaurant during Ryder Cup and had the pleasure of dining there four times that week. The staff was so kind and attentive, and the food was some of the best we had while in Italy....The Carbonara was amazing- I also had steak one night and a fantastic salad another. My husband had the Calamari dish 2 nights in a row. Someday we hope to return to see our new Italian friends!More

Absolute nightmare, awful. The water, 2€ was from the tab, and the bottle was open when it came to my table. The food- small portions, overpriced—okay— however, the quality that you receive for the prices that you pay do not coincide. The waiters— loud; they...also charge an additional 6€ for service. I do not recommend this “bistro” at all!More

Brilliant local cuisine. Exceptional service and delicious food. Both pasta dishes were brilliant and a nice salad. Nice spritz. The place was buzzing and busy, but the staff (and management) were fast and friendly. The manager (???) even gave us an umbrella after ours had...been taken… super kind.More

My family ate here tonight and had a wonderful experience the entire time. Our antipasti - one eggplant based (like nothing you’ve ever tasted) and the other Italian meat with mozzarella - was divine. We all had different main courses and each one of us...exclaimed that the taste was spectacular. Then came dessert. Tiramisu and traditional Italian pie slices which melted in our mouths. My husband greatly enjoyed his espresso martini. I had a sip and it was the best I’ve ever had. All the while, the staff were whizzing around the tables with smiles on their faces. Very swift service, very friendly and kind people. We loved it so much we have booked to come again. We have noticed how some tourists speak to hotel/restaurant/attractions staff here. They don’t make eye contact with them, they don’t smile at them and they just bark out their wants without simple words like please or thank you. The people who look after us while we are guests in their amazing country are human beings. We try to speak to them with respect, try and speak our (terrible) Italian to respect their mother tongue and have experienced wonderful service our entire trip. I see some reviews claiming the staff here prefer Italians at this restaurant and treat tourists badly. We’re Aussies and were treated with great courtesy. So I disagree with the opinion that they favour locals here.More

We stumbled into Barzilia on a rainy afternoon. There are quite a few restaurants in the area. The owner was standing at the door and said “Lunch?” And we said yes please! The service was very nice, and patient with us. The food was delicious...and they had the top 4 local Roman dishes to try. We had the ricotta with honey and walnuts and the caprese salad. The cheeses were fresh and delicious and I thought the portion sizes were good. For lunch we had three of the pastas: cacio e pepe, carbonara, and amitricana. We cleaned our plates, oh my Lord the bacon was delicious and the portion sizes we good. We didn’t need anything else, but we are American so we had dessert, my cappuccino was delicious, the cheesecake was ricotta based with a generous portion of berry compote, and a slice of berry tart- nice crisp crust that you could taste was made fresh with real eggs and butter. We stumbled here after a tour and did not think it felt like a tourist trap at all. Small and local with a very friendly staff, but all did not speak “American” (I say that intentionally). They were very patient and kind to us and we were very grateful and delighted to have found this spot. Thank you!More

Got the impression that they did not want us here even though Romans were there drinking. They got free gratis bar snacks with their drinks, as obvious tourists we didn't. My partner and I discovered this little restaurant on our last night in Rome. The staff was very gracious from the moment we were seated and we felt like we're part of their gang by the time we left :) We shared gravlax to start...with, followed by Carbonara and Ceasar salad and all of it was excellent, together with our wine and beer. Would highly recommend this friendly, local restaurant. PS: The street is great for people watching when it gets busy. Can't wait to go back!More

The owner here is a giant See You Next Tuesday with a major attitude. I’m sure everyone in his life hates him. My husband and I came here this morning for cappuccinos, literally asked if we could just get drinks and he said yes but...then got all pissy when we just got cappuccinos. My drink then came with some hairs sprinkled on top so I did not finish. According to previous reviews he is also defensive and doesn’t take accountability. Disgusting, this place should be shut down.More

We seated outside and nobody told us there was a “minimum” order. If they had we could have chosen no to seat. Anyways, we seated in the tables in the outside area. My girlfriend ordered an aperol spritz while I asked a pasta and a...water, the total amount around 28 euros. We were having an hell of a time, enjoying our selves, my girlfriend was at the point of ordering another drink when the manager approached and asked: “hey are you going to order anything else? Because we have other people who want to have dinner waiting for a table”. No kidding! They literally kicked our asses out because they thought they could make more money serving others! After 20 years traveling all around the world in 4 continents, never happened to be treated in such a cynical and greedy way, all for 40 euros more maybe less. As Italian living abroad I felt ashamed by such lack of vision on the basics on how to treat the customer and to run a business. Worst experience ever. Please avoid at any cost.More
