What a wonderful experience. Beautifully and carefully prepared dishes with fresh and local ingredients, an affordable prix fixe menu with multiple choices, great wine, and best of all friendly and helpful service. It’s a family run restaurant and the owner and his son are lovely....I wish this was my neighborhood restaurant. It’s situated on a quiet street steeped in history - oh and Hemingway wrote The Sun Also Rises upstairs!More

My wife and I head for this restaurant each time we visit Paris. This is sometimes twice a year. We have never been disappointed. The food is excellent and the ambience first class. We love the interaction with the staff. We love it.

When we travel, I do a significant amount of research, especially regarding the restaurants where we will be dining. Of course, Paris was no exception. With that research in our travel folders, we again enjoyed delicious meals across Europe and into Paris during our last...trip. However, La Maison de Verlaine was a major, disappointing exception. First, let me emphasize this is a review of one evening. Given the other reviews on TA, others have not had the experiences we did. Secondly, the restaurant’s interior is quite pleasant and nice. Our problems were the service and the food. We were in the first serving, and seated quickly. However, we were then ignored for a significant amount of time. Both waiters, I believe they are sons of the owners, quickly passed by us when they went out in front to smoke. Eh, OK. I’m sure they worked hard on the previous day and needed some down time. Then one of the sons came to take our orders – quite a big fellow who stood too close to me; looking straight down at me. My wife had the fish and I ordered the scallops. Here my fault, I should have asked if they would be the small bay scallops or the larger, seared ocean scallops. The dish was the bay scallops in a bland sauce. But most importantly, the chef, I believe it was the family’s wife/mother, failed to remove the hard tendon connecting the scallop to the shell. I have never had that tendon served to me before in any home or any restaurant. I also have never had scallops as tough as were these. My wife’s fish was only disappointing in its ordinariness. Again, a long wait to receive the bill. Again, when he came to pick up the bill and credit card, he stood right on top of me. Looking straight down at me, he said, “You can include a tip on the credit card.” I responded, “I understood in France the tip is included in the bill.” “Yes, but you can give more.” We have never enjoyed a meal less than at La Maison de Verlaine, and, I have eaten in some real dives when I was working and a road warrior. The meal was especially disappointing as we were really looking forward to this particular venue.More

Had a wonderful meal at this place last week. Excellent traditional French cuisine with good selection of wine located on the back streets of Pantheon with a bit local history! There is a plaque commemorating the 19 th century French poet Verlaine and Hemingway who...lived the address for a few years!More

It looked nice from the outside... Carpaccio de saumon : still wondering if it's fish we've eaten... Cod "à la Normande" = boiled fish + fat sauce + fat sad vegetables... Tarte tatin is a piece of defrosted cake with Chantilly from a bottle and...a bowl of ice cream with no taste. Creme brulée is something yellowish with burnt sugar on top. What a terrible experience...More

Had one of the best meals we have had in Paris or elsewhere in this quaint restaurant. Excellent service and reasonable prices. We loved the escargot, duck and fish. Onion soup was fabulous as well. We were there during the Paris strikes and walked to...this restaurant from our hotel- It was a great find!!More

This is located in the Latin Quarter. It was very good to sit outside for a relaxing dinner. Food was good, wine was a bit expensive but the atmosphere was great. I do find the dishes come a bit late. it seem it more on...the chef schedule rather than ours.More
