We were in Edinburgh for the beginning of the fringe & it was an opportunity for the wife to try her first Michelin star.
We were surprised by the price of the lunch time menu and jumped at the chance to sample the food for such great value.
When we arrived we sat in the bar and enjoyed some cocktails and listened to some great whiskey knowledge, i'm now obsessed with Dalmore whiskey due to it, which i cant really complain about.
The decor is really cool, and you really get the love for Scotland and the produce, so we were very happy to experience it. Was great to see Tom working in the kitchen and it created a level of theatre to the meal. Service was classy and we were made to feel very relaxed which my wife was surprised at, as she hadn't been to a michelin star before she expected it to be stuffy, but we both felt really relaxed and happy.
When back for the fringe next year will hopefully be able to book for dinner.

The Kitchin is just a short stroll fro The Royal Yacht Britannia. We had the lunch menu - £36 for 3 courses in a Michelin starred restaurant is a bargain, or maybe we are just used to home prices in London! I had the vegetarian menu, the staff were very helpful in accommodating some food intolerances I have by suggesting how some of the dishes could be adapted if necessary.
Overall the food and service were absolutely 5 star. Couldn't find a single thing wrong with anything we had. Would love to go back to this place, with its cool interiors and friendly (but not overly friendly) staff if the opportunity ever presents itself.

From arrival to the end this is a fabulous place expect for one small niggle. The service is first class and just right not over the top which it can be at top end restaurants
We had the surprise menu which was brilliant and I can still remember all the flavours. The scallops baked in the shell which the break open in front of you, mine was short of sauce so the young Aussie waitress noticed and went and got more. The service is that good. Go surprise menu.
We had gin and tonics on arrival which where reasonable priced. I don’t drink white wine so decided against wine pairing so looked at the wine list, the niggle is the price of the wines could do with more at the least expensive, heard people talking about wine at £45 per glass. They only drank spirits due to the wine prices. We only had wine by the glass which the sommelier seemed disappointed.
The only thing missing was atom Kitchin

Went as part of a birthday surprise trip to Edinburgh and chose this restaurant for the first class seafood dishes. The service was exceptional and a warm welcome awaited. A birthday card signed by Tom Kitchen was a lovely touch and we were given a fantastic table facing the kitchen. We chose the Al a Carte menu. The scallop starter was lovely - huge scallops and delicious sauce. My partner had the Rockpool starter which looked amazing but could have benefited from a little more seafood! For mains we had Smoked Halibut and Roe Deer. I love fish especially smoked so was looking forward to this dish. Sadly i couldn’t eat it - two bites were too much. The fish was undercooked (nearly raw) and HEAVILY smoked. It tasted of overpoweringly of ash even when eaten with the delicious accompaniments. I could not taste what should have been lovely halibut.
Desert was amazing (Rhubarb for me and Apple for my partner).
Also the wine is vastly overpriced - an entry level Gavi di Gavi was £60 (would have been circa £25 retail) so that mark up is taking the proverbial!

We were really looking forward to trying out this place having read a lot of good reviews online and in the press. Unfortunately our personal experience left a lot to be desired. We opted for the prestige tasting menu at £140 per head. The food was very mediocre at best; the sweetbreads were excellent however the chicken consommé was very bland and lacked seasoning. The wagyu beef, which was the main differing dish in opting for the prestige menu over the ordinary tasting menu was a farce- shaped in size like dairy-lee triangle and tasteless and chewy, it was some of the most underwhelming beef I have eaten in years. At no point did any member of staff ask us if we enjoyed our meal which is a great shame as it seems they don’t care about feedback or improving their offering. Sharp and snappy to take the £750 payment for a dinner for 4 people with 2 bottles of wine though.... head to the white horse for a better meal and service at a fraction of the price.

Going to a place like this with someone who doesn’t really like “posh” food, who also can’t eat dairy is sometimes a nightmare but not here.
On arrival we discussed with our server what he could eat and the dairy free menu was brought out. We had been given a voucher for here and were told that we could pick what we wanted and pay the difference ( a lovely touch) however we both opted for the set menu from our voucher.
The bread arrived as a wee loaf, that bread was amazing, a little warm and very crusty.
The starters arrived with server who applied any sauce required.
The main was the same
Desert was lovely too. We decided to split our deserts so we could try each other’s. We were ok with this as I had the dairy bit on the side
Over all this place was amazing
I had booked this sat ( 1st that was available) in June so if you are planning to go on a weekend or have a voucher to go book now and avoid disappointment

This is a restaurant I'd always wanted to visit so had high hopes when I reserved for a treat for my Mum. When we arrived enjoyed a cocktail in the bar and the first little surprise of handmade crackers with Crowdie was a lovely touch & indication of the quality food to follow. Had the 3 course lunch with paired wines and we both thoroughly enjoyed each course, alongside the little extras provided. Can say the hare ravioli starter was one of the best things I've ever tasted! We found all the staff to be extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Liked the fact it was a relaxed, laid back atmosphere for a Michelin starred restaurant. The set lunch menu is excellent value for money given the quality of the food. Definitely did not disappoint, superb experience and will be back on my next visit to Edinburgh to sample the dinner menu.

My experience at The Kitchin was exactly as I hoped it would be for a Michelin starred chef - absolutely divine! Everything about the food and service was excellent. We had the Chef's Surprise Tasting Menu so we would experience the seasonal fowl and every dish that was brought out was beautiful and delicious. The platings are generous. The service was absolutely impeccable. This is a must if you are a foodie!
The atmosphere is simple, yet stylish, with steel beams, stone walls and soft sumptuous fabrics co-existing in the same space which to me exuded calmness.
The location is down by the waterfront in Leith which is easy to reach by bus or taxi from main center of Edinburgh. Reservations are necessary so plan ahead. I would visit this restaurant again!

This was our 2nd visit to The Kitchin and it was as impressive as ever.
On the way in Tom Kitchin arrived and greeted us at the front door.
We were recommended a gin and a local beer to start our evening whilst perusing the menu (for covid reasons this is a QR code on a card that you can view on your mobile).
We received an appetiser on their take of Cullen Skink which was just delightful and packed full of flavour.
We then received a mushroom consommé which again was packed full of flavour and left you eager for the next course.
I opted for the scallop which came baked in the shell with a pastry crust, don't be afraid to get stuck in to the sauce with the pastry, in fact I was actively encouraged to! My husband opted for the veal sweetbreads which he said were delicious.
The sommelier recommended a stunning wine to match our dishes and suited our budget.
Mains were cod for me and lamb for my husband. Both delicious and just not like anything we've ever tasted before.
We then received a pre pudding pudding! Which cleansed the pallette and got you eager for your dessert.
Dessert was insanely good! I had chocolate and hazelnut and my husband had their take on the cranachan. Both stupidly, ridiculously stunning.
The staff were very welcoming throughout the night and were very attentive. Everyone round us was having a great time in a beautifully relaxed atmosphere.
There's absolutely no egos at the Kitchin and it is the best place I've ever eaten.

The welcome was warm and that set the tone for the whole night .
We had the Prestige Tasting Menu with the paired wines and it was worth every penny. There were many stars of the night and it is hard to choose the best , Razor Clams,Langoustines,Wagu Beef Tartar,Grouse,Cheese and sweets to die for. This was all enhanced by an attentive ,knowledgeable staff who were present but not in your face .We loved every minute of our night

We ate here as a special birthday treat, something that had to be delayed a year, but it was well worth the wait for Covid to allow us to visit.
On arrival we were greeted and shown to our seat, a nice touch was being given a stool for my bag. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, we were having the taster menu with matching wines and so the knowledge had to be extensive as they described each dish and the wines offered alongside.
All the ingredients are sourced from Scotland and this is one of the most important things considered by the owner, Tom Kitchin. Talking of whom, we were very happy to have Tom appear and he visited each table to chat and that was a big bonus.
The food served was wonderful, beautifully prepared and presented. There were several courses in the taster menu and each dish was perfectly matched with the wine. The first dish, scallops was a highlight, but they were all delicious.
The restaurant is well known and highly thought of. It was very busy on the night we went, it had only recently reopened and even then they had to close at 10.30 p.m.
The price is relatively steep, but it is certainly a special occasion to eat at the The Kitchin and the staff and friendly atmosphere make it very very special.

We visited The Kitchin for dinner with friends. Everything about it was superb. The staff were excellent, knowledgable and attentive, the menu was exciting and we even got to sit at the chefs table for a pre-dessert, where we chatted to Tom Kitchin himself! We would recommend this restaurant 100%, we really felt we’d had a special experience and it was certainly value for money, given all the “extras” that you are treated to. Definitely one for a special occasion.

From start to finish this is a real experience. You are made to feel welcome, and special. We received a little card signed from the chef as it was a wedding anniversary meal. We are from the set lunch menu, at £45 more than you might normally pay but given the quality and the experience you get, it’s so very worth it. The courses were well spread out, the waiters worked hard to make the experience special. Was sad we couldn’t pair the drinks (I mean the alcoholic ones) but maybe I’ll have to come back to try that!

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous lunch yesterday at the Kitchen. We arrived early and had a drink in the bar which was lovely and relaxing and allowed us to look at menus.
The food was amazing and the Michelin Star was evident in presentation and flavours. Staff were extremely knowledgeable and explained each dish in detail. We chose the three course set menu lunch with wine pairing. The wine list is extensive, but the pairing wines were excellent with each dish. Worth looking at the wine list before you go, as some are hugely expensive.
We were allowed time between each course to relax.
Loved being able to view the Chefs at work behind the glass screen, and the 'Master' was on duty who appeared to be inspecting each dish as it left the kitchen.
Restaurant decor was lovely, relaxing, extremely busy even at lunchtime, you must book in advance (we booked our table in October last year) !.
Well worth a visit to see excellent Scottish produce being served at its best, cooked by committed Chefs with passion.
Fabulous and we shall return.

Incredible place, easily lives up to its reputation with exquisite cuisine and impeccable service. We had lunch here during a heavy storm and the staff were wonderful. The set lunch menu is very reasonably priced and gives you a wonderful gastronomic experience without breaking the bank. The mushroom amuse bouche was so tasty with tremendous depth of flavour, followed by mackerel starter, then some fantastic guinea fowl it was all flawless both in taste and presentation. Tom also made an appearance to thank all the diners for coming so all in all a great day
