A place for anyone who appreciates remarkable, creative food, and the care necessary to produce it. A small restaurant: which was pretty full when we went on a cold Thursday night in February. It serves only a 'taster menu' consisting of six courses without choice:...we were told that five of these are different each night, so the details below can only be to give an impression. All will be described as they arrive. First, an onion soup with spinach cream and a hint of herbs and chilli. Very smooth. My wife gave it first place. A sort of cheese course followed with mascarpone and a dressing. Then king prawns: the ingredients included Pernod, but there was little or no anise flavour - just a hint of I-don't-quite-know-what. This item is +/- regular. Then a slice of pink rib-eye steak with a sort of tomato salsa/salad. Then some chicken topped with mashed potato generously infused with truffle oil and some crispy bits. My personal favourite. Finally a very small dessert similar to panna cotta topped with well caramelised sugar. The portions were plenty for me, and rather too much for my wife who (with great regret) had to leave a bit. There was a good atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and got the introductions to the courses just right. £50 per person for these. On the night we were there the noise level would have made an intimate chat problematic, and anyone who had limitations on the items they could eat would not get the full benefit. But for us, this was the highlight of our little break in Warwick, and we think you'd have trouble finding anything comparable.More
Superb food! Wonderful host, great atmosphere, only ask for a breather in between courses! Please do go even if you are fussy eater- expand your taste buds, enjoy the adventure of discovering dishes you wouldn't try. Can not wait to return
We were looking for a place to have a special meal and this place definitely did not disappoint . I have eaten in many high end restaurants and I can honestly say that this is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best...meals I have had Each course reinforced the last one and the quality and flavour of the food was unsurpassed The staff and the owner were very friendly all in all it was a great experience and one that we will not forget If you’re loooking for real food cooked with passion the this is your placeMore
Fabulous food, lovely hosts, geat choice of wine, good value, we would throughly recommend a visit when in Warwick. Thank you
This is an amazing place and experience. Welcomed like an old friend, delicious wine and excellent food. We really enjoyed our evening and have already booked to come again with friends. The menu is decided with what has been bought fresh on the day so...every course is a surpriseMore
This was the Wow factor in already fabulous Warwick. Great people, excellent tasting menu, instant choice to return in future.
Fab food, venue and staff. Can’t fault the food, flavoursome and delivered by knowledgeable staff. Great atmosphere will definitely be returning
Thank you for a fabulous evening. No menu for food or drinks, just wonderful courses brought out and explained. All delicious and original. We had a bottle of red and white wine (well it is Christmas!) selected for us which matched the food beautifully. Great...atmosphere too, chatting to the team and other diners, can’t wait to return!More
We were lucky enough to visit La Mesa on the night that Warwick’s Xmas lights were turned on. Also the first Xmas market took place that evening. As a consequence there was a convivial atmosphere in the town which spilled over into the restaurant. Our...party of four selected the ‘secret’ six-course tasting menu. There were several standout dishes - the spinach and pea soup, a goyoza in a spicy chimichurri style sauce and pig cheeks in a rich gravy served on mashed potatoes. Bottles of the recommended red and white wines were of good quality and reasonably priced. The double act of the front of house manager and the chef was very entertaining.. All-in-all we had a lovely dinner / evening.More
We hadn’t visit Gerald’s restaurant for a while (he’s so busy!) but were delighted to secure a table recently. The welcome by George was friendly. The food, as we have come to expect, was delicious. The Rioja was divine…..There isn’t a menu, but the team...ask if there are any allergies etc. but to be fair if your unable to eat a lot of things, then maybe this isn’t the establishment for you! Thanks La Mesa and we will, when there is a free table, be back.More
We had a lovely night at La Mesa last night. The food was fabulous. All the people concerned with the Restaurant were really friendly and very helpful. This was our first visit to La Mesa but it most certainly won't be our last.
Travelling from Canada and my partner found this place. The food was FABULOUS and the service is simply fantastic. We had a great time and it was very cozy with a beautifil ambiance.
I was visiting Warwick with the wife for our wedding anniversary and wanted to find a nice restaurant, La mesa came high on the Reviews and some times you have to take TripAdvisor with a 'Pinch of Salt', I looked deeper into the internet and...found some food critic who gave excellent reviews so had no hesitance in booking...... and we were not disappointed! This is a small and cosy restaurant, ideal for couples, a small group of friends or a business dinner. A 6 course taster menu (only option and changes every night) prepared to the quality most people dream of and only see on TV, and all for a modest set price. neighbouring tables had allergies or food preferences and this was also covered for! Don't ask me what ingredients and herbs and spices accompanied the courses, that is explained as it was served, but I can tell you that we had a Spicy Chicken Soup, Buffalo Mozzarella on a bed of Seaweed, a large Pork meatball, Giant Prawns on a bed of Risotto, Slow cooked Lamb with a truffle mash and a creamy sugar glazed dessert. Washed down with a couple of bottles of Rioja and a Spanish liqueur compliments of La Mesa! I would 100% recommend La Mesa, fantastic food, great atmosphere, warm, welcoming and attentive staff, great wine and I love the open 'not a show kitchen' but a creative kitchen! Booking a must and I believe 4-6 weeks in advance!More
What a fantastic meal and experience. We were served a 6 course taster menu and I can honestly say I was impressed with every plate. Service was excellent and every plate was described in detail. We will definitely return
