The first thing the waitress said when we were seated was that we had a time limit on the table (an hour and a quarter). Whilst the food was nice, they served an ordinary scone rather than the 'fat rascal' scone that Betty's is supposedly...famous for. The silver teapot & china cups are all a bit tired looking & the upstairs tea room lacked ambience.More

This is a must if visiting York. Food and staff were faultless, decor very in keeping. The lunch was beautiful with proper tea in a China cup.

This place is simply stunning and a must visit! It was our first visit and heard so much good stuff that we had to visit. We dined for breakfast which was simply amazing, the service was excellent and the food was simply delicious and of...high quality. I can’t wait to returnMore

This restaurant really know what they are doing, delightful 'high tea' - everything was good quality and tasty, well worth the small queue to get in. Service was excellent, friendly with a can do attitude. Very fair pricing, lovely ambience. As I said, faultless.

First visit to Bettys, Saturday morning 8.45 breakfast sitting. Couldn’t book a breakfast reservation before hand and the wait time was 20-25 mins for a table. We were seated downstairs. Staff friendly and welcoming just wish we’d had a bigger table for four. Really tasty...breakfast, we had the selection of breakfast items, the cinnamon toast is wonderful! Full English went down a treat with my uncle and the muesli was refreshing my auntie said. Worth the visit, wished we could of booked a table. You are paying for the experience as well as the food so as a one off good value for money. I had to buy some fat rascals on the way out, scrumptious!More

Decided to have breakfast here on Friday morning. After joining a short queue, I was inside and seated within around 5 minutes. The café is beautiful; elegantly understated with a nod to the era Bettys was established. It really is very special, as are the...staff. All of whom were welcoming, friendly and professional. I ordered the Florentine Rosti and the Latte Latino; both were superb. One day I’d love to return for Afternoon Tea. But even if you just fancy a pot of tea and some cake, I’d definitely recommend dining here.More

Always make time for Betty’s if we are returning to York. This time just popped in for lunch. As usual you have to queue to get in but you know it will be worth it by the time you are seated. As the shop is...limiting numbers going in it was a good idea for you to be able to order any requirements whilst you had your meal and a member of staff would bring your order to your table - saved queuing again for the shop. See you on the next trip.More

Highly recommend taking a visit to Bettys tea room, be prepared to queue but the queue moves fast and its well worth it. I had the Club Sandwich and they catered to my gluten intolerance no problem, the gluten free bread was absolutely delicious (pretty...sure it was Warburton's) and all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, also there is a wee shop where you can buy cakes and tea to take home.More

Booked well in advance. We entered at our alloted time to the upstairs room which is full of old world charm and were immediately seated. We were a party of 5 paying £20 each for the afternoon tea (£100 in total) but added to our...final bill. When the tea arrived we were a little underwhelmed, 1 plate to share between 2 people, each plate containing 5 bite size cakes, 2 scones and 6 little triangle sandwiches. Also, the coffee went cold very quickly in the delicate porcelain cups. However, the service was very attentive and we were able to enjoy the experience. The toilets are very nice too!More
