We went by the reviews from other people and decided to try this restaurant. Some friends of ours decided to visit from London and we said we will take them for a meal. Everything was ok in terms of booking etc. however we decided to...order enough meal for 6 people and thinking it will be quite enough and must admit the portion size was just enough for 2-3 people. Anyway we did have the option to reorder more food but our friends did find the food quite bland and decided to order some chilli peppers and fresh green chillies. That was totally fine until we asked for the bill. We were quite shock for what we paid and we also charged extra for the chillies and tap water. I thought how disgusting this is!! Our friends from London were also very shocked and said that in London you don't have to pay for extra condiment and it should be included especially when the platter of mixed grill there was only one piece of chicken, one small kebab and a piece of fried prawn.. I call this daylight robbery and decided never again to this place. Please be warned.More

We didn't think we'd need to book for an early dinner on a Monday, but when we arrived, we found ourselves in the maelstrom of a large birthday party. Still, we were directed to a table on the terrace and thought we'd be waiting a...while to be served. Not a bit of it! Menus and cutlery appeared in a short time, as did drinks and poppadoms - fresh, hot and crispy with nice chutneys. (A bit breezy, so we lost half a poppadom - keep a hold of the little blighters if you're outside!) The 'Covid menu' is much reduced from what it used to be and some of our favourites weren't on it. Strangely, even the Madras was lacking. Although disappointed by this at first, we pressed on - being forced to try something different. The tarka dhal was superb, lamb dhansak had tender meat and was a bit hotter than 'fairly', but great (and the raita hadn't been removed as it so often is after the poppadoms, so that helped!) The flamboys were very much appreciated. What was really great was the service. In spite of their busy-ness with the party, our table was served quickly and efficiently and with friendliness. In particular there was a waiter who said he was new and looked a bit confused - he's going to be great! He has a lovely manner and is very helpful. Looking forward to the reinstatement of the old menu, but in the interim, the Bombay Bay folk are keeping standards up!More

Only reason gave 4 instead of 5 stars was the initial wait to be served took a while, then forgot wine glasses for bottle of wine. Apart from that, had an excellent experience, with the food being excellent. Full of flavour, and good portion size....Would definitely go again as all 5 of us eating thoroughly enjoyed it.More

As my wife and I, like thousand of other couples have not been out for a evening meal for approximately 18 months, we decided to visit one of our many Indian restaurants for a curry evening with friends. Now Bombay bay is in a lovely...location overlooking Eastney marina, Normally the restaurant has a very good reputation and the food is very good. But in this occasion the food was poor and the service was very rushed. Our main course was Chicken Tikka massala. The chicken was dry and overcooked and the sauce was tasteless! The staff were not very friendly, and we felt that we were a burden on them. I requested a jug of water and four glasses. It failed to arrive! I asked again and again and eventually I received a single glass of water. Normally the restaurant has a good reputation, but on this occasion I felt disappointed and wasted £122.00More

6 of us had an outdoor meal on the terrace of the Bombay Bay on a breezy early evening. our waiter was very helpful and pleasant .Our pre dinner gin and tonics came quickly with lots of fresh lemon with crispy popadoms and chutney. The...food was delicious ,lots of chicken ,good portions and the vegetable side dishes we had were really delicious ,best daal I've had for ages. It was lovely sitting outside in a lucky window of sunshine over looking the mariner. I'm looking forward to going again and being able to sit inside and not be dependent on the weather, although having the terrace is a real bonus when its warmer.More

I have been eating at the restaurant for the last 14 years eaten in takeaways etc. I have probably eaten in over 100 Indian restaurants over the last 30 years. Including the Michelin starred Benare's in Mayfair The Michelin starred song of India in Singapore...thrust me this place is right up there with the very best for a fraction of the price around 10 years ago I read read an article in Sunday times that listed the Bombay as as one of the top 10 best Indian restaurants in the UK I could not agree more. Those people that give poor reviews because they probably took a long time to get home with a take away is not really fair. If you dont think the food is good here they don't bother going out to eat out just buy a curry in Iceland and heat it up in the microwave I have owned 4 restaurants with my brother over the last 30 years and know exceptional quality and this place has it in abundance.More

We had the misfortune of ordering a takeaway from here and had prawn puri, lamb tikka masala and Keema nan and pilau rice. What an expensive disappointment. I’ve never seen white pilau rice before and brown tikka masala! The lamb was like keebab meat truly...awful food. Probably the worst Indian I have ever had.More

We had the squid Amritsari, onion Bhaji, another prawn dish that had a soggy jepati with it. Amritsari was 4 pieces squid, very thin and soggy. Onion bhaji was cooked a while ago, soggy and doughie inside. King prawn Goan, had approx 4 king prawns...in. It tasted good. Just lots of sauce and not many prawns for £7.95, not worth it. Coconut rice was delicious. Eaten inside lots of times and good , but I will not waste £30 on a take away again.More
