About
The Old Hill Inn is an ancient inn of great character, part of which dates back to 1615 and the other part 1835. Originally a farm, then Drovers inn, now specialising in delicious home cooked food and excellent puddings. A family of chefs run the establishment, three working on the savoury side, and Colin, a famous pastry chef and sugar sculptor extordinaire has spectacular sculptures on display. An interesting place with log fires and beams, where Winston Churchill used to stay for hunting, shooting and fishing holidays. Situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, nestling between Ingleborough and Whernside, with fantastic views from the superb en-suite letting rooms. An ideal location for a cosy meal and also catering for parties. There are many walks from here eliminating the need for a car if one wants solitude and space, and it is also an ideal location for anybody interested in the local wildlife - birds and plant life especially. We have a woodpecker family living here!!

We had dinner here on cold snowy night and expected nothing but basic pub food. However we could not have been more wrong. We were welcomed as old friends by the staff and nothing was too much trouble. The log burner made the ambience very cozy and warm and the meal was of a standard usually found in restaurants charging three times the price. We will definately return and have already recommended to others.

I stayed here the last 2 nights whilst I walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. What an excellent, excellent place. Bean and the team couldn't have made me feel more welcome and at ease, so incredibly friendly and accommodating. I had an early start on walk day and they left breakfast out for me, completely delicious food (actually the best chicken I've ever had!) and I will definitely be back!

Bean and the family team made our stay so special. This is pub cooking and humble hospitality on another level. Roaring fire, comfy beds, ancient beams and simple dishes with delicious homemade twists. The desserts, by sugar sculptor and ex-Ritz pâtissière, will have you considering more than one each. Breakfast was brilliant as well. We didn’t want to leave. COVID may have taken the people out of the pub (for now) but it has definitely still got its heart and soul. Stay here if you can find a few free nights.

Great stay. Sabena looked after us really well and made us feel thoroughly at home. We were warmly greeted, had lovingly prepared home cooked food and breakfasts. The rooms were very comfortable and given the nature of Covid Times measures were thoughtfully and carefully put into place. We can’t recommend this place highly enough. Perfect location for starting the Yorkshire Three Peaks and all in all a fantastic stay. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

We popped in early evening 18th Nov to this traditional British pub with the roaring fire, locals / walkers / residents with dogs at their feet and a great selection of drinks and beers. Whilst we did not have any food on this evening the food that was being brought from the kitchen looked fresh and homemade. The menu is what you'd expect from such a quaint place. We were staying at pods some 3/4 mile away. With being non resident we asked if they done breakfast. We paid the evening before and breakfast was served 8.30 - 9.30. (I do not know if they'd serve non residents at peak times) Whilst I'd say breakfast was limited, it emulated the food from the night before fresh and homemade.

The best base for the Y3P, comfortable, warm, friendly, clean, historic. Home made food cooked to perfection, and hard to fault Bean as the landlady or Humph as her enthusiastic assistant. A place where values matter and its old stones have seen travellers arrive and leave for about 500 years.

I stayed in one of the glamping pods for two nights so that I’d be at our starting point for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. The pod was clean and tidy with a shower, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery, fridge, wall heater, sofa and bunk bed. It was particularly windy the first night and the pod shook a little but it all added to the sense of adventure. The pub itself is cosy, serving delicious home cooked meals to residents. There were a couple of good ales on tap and the Malbec is good. The drinks weren’t overpriced. The staff were polite and friendly. I’d stay there again for sure.

We visited on 2 consecutive nights for food and drinks. The food was delicious both nights, including the homemade main courses and the puddings. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone.

We stayed for 2 nights to hike in the area. The food was outstanding and very hearty! Breakfast options were excellent. The evening meals were outstanding and cooked from scratch with the freshest veg. The desserts were stunning pieces of decadent art from the acclaimed chef and sugar-work expert. Totally unexpected! They were even happy to make packed lunches with stunning chutneys and fresh flapjacks. The home team were a delight, on hand, friendly and very knowledgeable. The area is stunning. We'll be back!

What a great find. Went for dinner as the landlady was already cooking for residents. Friendly and welcoming, both landlady and the young waitress. All good home cooked fare which you can pre order. We had the pork casserole with damson and a pie crust with plenty of accompanying vegetables. Delicious. Wish we had booked for the second night too but the people we sat next to had a beautiful sea bass, a chicken and chorizo meal, both of which they said was outstanding. Would recommend.

We stayed here for two nights in November. Our second stay here. Bean the owner is brilliant, she provides a comfortable, clean, homely place to stay. The pub is old, welcoming and full of charm. Always a roaring fire to warm you up after a day out walking. Being central to the Yorkshire 3 peaks it really is an ideal location for walkers or couples wanting to get away from it all. The views are amazing. Breakfast and evening meals made by Bean are absolutely amazing! And the puddings are a real treat, it’s hard to choose between them! I couldn’t speak more highly of the service Bean and her family provide. It is always at the top of my list of my favourite places to stay! We are booking another trip back to the old hill inn soon!

We booked a two night stay as our base to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, and what an excellent choice it proved to be. We had excellent weather for our walk, but what really made it for us was the quality of the food and drink, and the friendliness of all the staff. My daughter and I had the Sea Bream and my Son-in-Law the Lamb Shank. The fish was beautifully cooked and the lamb rated as awesome, and the best I have ever had. Desserts were of the same high standard. Add to this the fact that the staff could not do enough for you, and the breakfast equally enjoyable and I would say that this was as close to perfect as possible. Don’t worry if you’re not doing the 3 peaks, it is still an ideal place for some r&r, and to explore the beautiful scenery that surrounds this fabulous hostelry. Thank you for all you did for us, and a special hello to Humphrey.

We stayed in the double room which was spacious, clean and with a comfy bed - just beware of the low beams. Perfect position for the Yorkshire 3 peaks. Food was absolutely superb and the desserts were amazing. Even the breakfast was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

This is the third and last time that I've passed by in the hope of having lunch and a cheeky beer. Each time I passed by it has been closed. I used to love this place when I walked in the Dales but it surely can't stay in business if it's never open.
