Worst food and charges

We had dinner at this place 27th January 2020 with 10 people. Worst sea food I ever had Food quality was so bad that has no taste and everything is badly oily. We paid nearly $175 to get two seafood platters and 4 bottles of water. There was 4 pieces of fish and 4 smaller prawns and few rings of squid. Not sure how they justify these prices. They give you plate full of potato chips which also oily and very bad quality. Also give you more potatoes that they call scallops. They have low overheads compare to other restaurants. You have to go to the counter to order and then pick up the order that make two trips. Just wanna say that whoever come to a place to eat won’t pay you for bad food or won’t pay for the view. Don’t ripoff people do the right thing. Do it Australian way.

Told if we didn’t eat fish why were we here!

There is so much choice at Hillary’s but we thought we would choose seafood nation as it’s known for great seafood. There was one person in our party of 8 that didn’t eat seafood. When we went to order I asked for the pizza but instead of having it with fish (as it came) I asked for just plain. The manager who served us informed me that he can do that but it would still be charged at the same price as the fish one. I said that was fine but as a huge chain not very mindful of the people who don’t eat fish, surly they should make more than one non fish based product on their menu. I did mention this to him and he replied “well if you don’t eat fish why are you here”. I was mortified by this comment as the rest of our party did order fish. Was the person who didn’t want it meant to wait outside? I am astounded that a “manager” would have this attitude. Not the best customer service is it, specially not for a managerial role! Whilst this was happening another member of staff obviously overheard the situation, she quickly came over and apologised for his rudeness. She explained that the menu was changing to accommodate non fish eaters and that we should always come back. She offered us some free drinks to make up for it. On the plus side the fish and pizza we ordered was lovely, just a shame about the service!

Worst fish and chips

Worst fish and chips I have ever had, inam speaking as a chef.. Took my wife and kid, aside from the nonsense of charging me for 2 extra large portions when I asked for 2 normal fish and chips.. the Batter was soggy, fish was tasteless, chips were frozen, soggy and halve cooked.. The oil they fried in needs changed ASAP as all you could taste was burnt oil.. Offered no sauces or ketchup etc, I asked and was reluctantly given 1 very small tub of ketchup and 2 very small tartare sauces.. that was it.. was 3 people.. Terrible value for money, horrendously cooked, cheap cheap ingredients.. Premium price.. will not be back and certainly would not recommend... Horrendous

Terrible takeaway fish n chips We ordered the family fish and chips plus an additional kids serve for lunch during the week and we had to wait for 30 mins for it to start. The product was absolutely revolting. The chips were good but the fish was thick in batter and orange and hard. Very very thin fish if you could find it under the batter. I did contact them on Facebook to see if they cared but no response so sharing the experience so people don’t make the same mistake. Worst fish n chips in Hillarys for my daughters 2nd bday. We won’t be back ever

Went with my grandchildren last Friday and was very disappointed not only did we have to wait a long time for our meals. When the arrived they were cold my scallops were so cold the batter was soggy chips cold and they werent even very busy. The music was so loud hard to hear should have complained on the night waste of $99.00

Rude staff, average food and what advertised special??

We went last night as they had a chicken wing special on, according to Facebook. Get there, no specials advertised anywhere and staff were rude when asking about it. They weren’t offering what was advertised either. Online said there was a crispy option but the staff member cut me off saying no we aren’t doing that. I had people behind me waiting to order and in hindsight should have left then. They weren’t overly busy for a Friday night and seat covers were filthy!!! It mainly serves fish n chips so you’d except pretty quick service. After a 30 minute wait with a hungry 3 year old went to ask if I could cancel my order. To get no, no it’s coming or we can give it take away. How is that feeding my kid faster? 5 minutes later the food arrives. $8 wing special (because the $18 wasn’t available as advertised on their FB page), kids nuggets and chips and chilli mussels. Chips were cold and very average quality, wings were lukewarm but otherwise ok, mussels were good and hot but the garlic bread had a questionable mould spot. After the wait and rude staff we just cut it off and got on with it. Funnily enough we saw another lady taking her meal back while we were there. This place has a great location and heaps of seating but with some rude staff, dirty seats, long waits and false advertising you’re going to struggle. There were plenty of places that looked busy, were at the same price point and would give a better dining experience at Hillary’s so do your homework.

Bad service, tasteless food.....never again!

We did our ‘monthly munch’ dinner supporting local businesses and have to say beyond disappointing. The four of us all said would never return. 2 out of 10! To start with the bar attendant explained that they didn’t have a wine list ‘yet’ but had special of the week lists and cocktails lists on table. Asked for two glasses of Pinot Noir and told don’t have any so selected a different wine and when she went to pour it, it was a Pinot Noir! Then advised “only 1 glass left and probably don’t have any more” (completely unaware of wines and stock), frustrating given no menus. We originally went because we wanted the tacos shown on Facebook, when we enquired about them as not on menu we were told “don't have yet”. I asked a different person walking around and he said Tacos only on Tuesday. I’d say there was possibly 30-40 people in restaurant when we arrived around 6.30 and ordered meals after going to bar as aware it closes at 8pm. Nearly an hour later we asked if we could get the ordered chips for the table (they were barely warm). We asked again after another 10mins about meals and told 5 minutes away, now maybe 15 people eating in the restaurant. 2 meals came out and 5 minutes later the other two. This is a restaurant that would easily seat over 100 and cant get 4 meals out together with 15 people in there. I wish we could say the wait was worth it.....it wasn’t, from the bland salad, frozen seafood and overcooked steak, it was all disappointing. We do like to support local business but unfortunately wont be supporting this one again. 👎

The best seafood in Perth? Sorry, that’s not true...

A beautiful location, a nice setting, plenty of space, reasonably priced food, happy hour served full cold drinks...but that’s where it stops and finishes. When we arrived, the table we sat had stale left over food that had been sitting there for at least an hour before we arrived. I asked when we ordered our drink and snack before our meal for the table to be cleaned so the waiter came and asked me to pass him the used plates which he took and walked away. He never came back. The table was still filled with previous used glasses, spilled food, used cutlery, so I went back and asked for someone to please clean the table we were about to eat on. A cleaning lady came and wiped both ends of the table but nowhere else, she didn’t move any items to clean the whole table, she left trails of wet slime from an old dirty cloth at each end of the table and made to walk away. I informed her that those old glasses and cutlery weren’t ours so she put them in her tray said sorry and walked away. It was absolutely disgusting level of cleanliness! Not a single care about basic hygiene or friendly service, I felt like we were imposing on them for asking to have our table cleaned! The children working in MacDonalds restaurants do a better job! So unprofessional. Thoughts of border closures and the nations request to support local business and tourist destinations go through my head as I thought how embarrassed I am for being Australian at a top end tourist destination for this state and this is the service that they receive? The food when it came was rubbish! Poor quality selection, poorly cooked, stone cold unseasoned chips with hot tasteless seafood that never tasted from the sea but from the fridge! My local fish and chip shop from Balga serves much nicer food, more of it, seasoned perfectly, served piping hot straight from the fryer, with friendly attentive service and a smile on their face at much less than half the cost of your restaurant that claims the best seafood in Perth! The week before I had “fish and chips” from the Lookout pub in Scarborough for the same price and it was delicious! I couldn’t fault it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it included a beautiful fresh salad that I wolfed down and thoroughly enjoyed! Your food and service is at best, of a very poor standard and you should be ashamed of yourselves. You embarrassed me.

Disgusting service and Attitude

We were in the restaurant on Thursday night and witnessed the absolute disgusting bullying and treatment of a small group of teenagers. The woman behind the counter was not only extremely rude but also very racist to the group who we're attempting to order a birthday dinner. The first member of the group ordered food without a issue (young well dressed Caucasian man), The second member (olive skinned well dressed teenage girl stepped forward with her dark skinned well dressed friend) was told the kitchen was closed. The group attempted to explain that they were all together for a birthday dinner. The restaurant was still full. The young man requested a refund for his meal as he stated he was not comfortable eating without his friends. Woman said they don't give refunds. Terrible behavior from management who took advantage of youth. I will never frequent this place again. The food was sub standard, that I can deal with but their shocking attitude towards patrons and customer service speaks volumes.

INSECT in our food and TERRIBLE manager.....

Met up with family for a nice lunch and what a mistake! We had to line up just to order, even though the restaurant looked half empty. When our Garden Salad (among other dishes ordered) arrived shortly after we started eating, a Moth was discovered in the salad! That I can understand may happen occasionally, however this is not what shocked us!! My wife took the salad back and one minute later returned to the table empty handed, informing us that they just offered her another salad (really, would you want another salad)? Unhappy with this outcome I then asked for the manager who then visited our table, asking what was wrong? I told her about the moth in our food and she replied, "Yes, I've already offered your wife another salad and she declined". I then asked for a refund or a credit to which she replied, "That's not our policy". the conversation finished with her stating, and I quote "This is a $65million dollar business, and I deal with people like you all day". I Replied "Really, can I have your name?" She then turned and walked away saying "I'm not prepared to tell you that". Well "manager" Jodie, I now know why you make customers pay before they eat! The consensus at our table was that even the food without insects was terrible and we all declared never to return!

Family Dinner Terrible Food!!

We went here for a family dinner as my mum is for the country and loves seafood. She ordered the salt and pepper squid, my wife who is heavily pregnant ordered the snapper. I had the surf and turf. The squid was not edible, it was covered in chunks of flour that had formed a paste and had no seasoning at all, tasted like flour paste. My wife’s fish seemed undercooked and was a funny texture, she is now in bed sick which is worse because she is pregnant. The surf and turf was ok but the prawns were obviously from a frozen bag and the salad was not worth tasting. Cost us $100 for the meal, seriously guys pick up your act, the location is not going to carry you forever.

Relaxed seafood dining - Good Food - Great Service - Newly renovated

This place is a great spot for a food, at a relative low priced, including kids option. It has changed since i had been back here many years ago, but its in a good spot, overlooking the water and a good spot to people watch as the hours go by! The food menu is extensive, obviously with a focus on seafood. The basic fish and chips is low priced, around $13-14 for an adults, but its not snapper, typical low grade fish, but its not bad for the price and typical price for where you are. Beers are OK priced, but they used to have happy hour for $5 coronas back in the day before it was taken over by new management, bring this back! it was great for an arvo beer! Service is great, Lea who works there kept our table clean and helped us with our order and where to go to pickup our food and cutlery, thanks Lea! Good spot for families, large tables, inside and out, and its protected from the weather too, so rain, hail or shine, its a good spot for all ages.

Took my family to Hillary’s while they were visiting from the uk. We’d never been to the restaurant before but we could get something for everyone. The food was very good, especially for the price. The kids ordered hot drinks and they didn’t arrive, however after chasing them up, we were given complimentary muffins to make up for their mistake. We were very pleased with the customer service and would recommend to all.

We had read a few negative reviews but chose to support one of our local eateries. Very cold night and asked for a warm location inside which they provided for our group. We arrived at 5.55 so scored four glasses of nice wine for $20. The staff were effecient, welcoming and friendly. The Goldband Snapper (grilled) was excellent. My Rotisserie chicken was incredible. An abundance of small potatoes, tasty home made coleslaw, peas, six pieces of the best sweetcorn I have had in ages. Add to this a small beautifully cooked chicken and completed by a tasty gravy. The lovely girl serving the meal actually gave me a take home container when I commented on the size of the meal! Delicious as the chicken was my love of vegetables was such that I ate the lot but could not manage most of the chicken and took it home (we have just had it for lunch and will do so again tomorrow). We will definately go again and will take the five grandkids as well as there is an indoor play area. I could not fault this family friendly, affordable and lively place to eat.

Disappointing!

Dropped in for lunch, ordered 2 x salt and pepper squid and a fish and chips. Amazing location and views. However I can honestly say it was the most disappointing meal I have personally ever paid for. The food was lukewarm. The squid hadn't even been cleaned properly. It was tasteless and overcooked. The chips were bland. The fish was also massively overcooked. I left most of my meal untouched, it was that bad. I think it could be an awesome place and maybe it was a bad day but it was just so disappointing. Would not recommend or return.
