We had my husbands 60th birthday and everything was wonderful. We were a table of ten ( all family) and the serving staff made it feel like a family special occasion ( without the work) . We were able to bring in our own birthday cake ( for a small service charge) which was appreciated too. The server offered to take a group picture and she stood on a chair to get an excellent group shot ! The prime rib was cooked to perfection! Thank you Maxines!

We had lunch on a Friday afternoon, the meals were very good but a bit overpriced.
Comparing Maxine's to other restaurants where we eat out; the portions are very small for the price!! The atmosphere is great, the staff very friendly and helpful. Deserts are pricey and very small.

Atmosphere was relaxing and classy (I'm a sucker for tablecloths). I had a red wine sangria. Ice was right up to the top in large glass, so it tasted very watered down. Wouldn't recommend. Soup was a tomato basil broth -very flavourful, and served hot. Main meal was veal Burgundy with a mushroom sauce. Vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were cool. When I mentioned this to server, just for her info, she insisted that she remove them, and bring me hot ones. I really didn't want them. However, you can't fault a server for doing the right thing! The veal itself was very large, and absolutely excellent! I would definitely order it again. I chose fries, and they were delicious. Ate every single one on my plate.
As a side note, my friend had the Prime Rib dip, and said it was very good.

We usually pick a new spot every week for date night. We decided to try this place based on reviews. The first impression was good. The waiter was excellent. We had escargot and stuffed mushrooms. The appetizer was good but nothing special. For the main course we ordered Chicken Oscar and Chicken Florentine. Appearance was disappointing. The vegetables looked like they were from a frozen package. The Oscar dish had two spears of asparagus. The Florentine chicken tasted freezer burnt with tough edges. Also the shrimp in the Oscar dish was small and salty. Very disappointed as total was around 115 before tip. We gave the standard 15% tip as the waiter was excellent and the cook obviously did what he could with subpar products. Definitely would not recommend or go back.

We do not serve frozen vegetables. Our Chef changes our repertoire regularly and the vegetables are ALWAYS fresh. We often serve a medley of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, roasted red peppers and zucchini. Depending on the season, we may serve root vegetables or whatever vegetables are being harvested.
We use DUNN-RITE 8 oz Chicken Breasts for all of our chicken dishes. Our kitchen staff prepares the Chicken Florentines in house, on a daily basis. They are stuffed with fresh sautéed spinach, herbs, shallots and feta cheese. These are not frozen. The Chicken Florentine is baked in the oven. Consequently, as many chicken dishes that are baked, the edges will be slightly crisp.
The Chicken Oscar is a saltier dish as it is stuffed with actual crab meat and sautéed minced, garlic tiger prawns. The Bearnaise sauce on the Oscar, as well, is typically high in sodium as it is made with rich butter.
Both these dishes are popular with our guests. We are sad that you did not enjoy them.

My family and I have been patrons of Maximes for the past 30+ years. Through these years we found the food to be excellent and our restaurant of choice when celebrating special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, retirements etc. However in the last year we have noticed a steady decline in the quality of food. I don’t often write reviews but given my last experience I felt compelled to write this one.
I ordered the chicken parmesan with rice. The chicken itself was at best mediocre but the rice was crunchy and hard as if someone poured it straight out of the box directly onto my plate. The waitress said there was no point in replacing it as the entire batch would taste the same so switched it out for a potato. Coincidentally the couple sitting next to us sent both their meals back stating how dissatisfied they were and left without reordering.
Given the fact that 2 tables experienced issues within minutes of each other, I feel the owner should have shown the professionalism and courtesy to personally come to our table to address our complaints or at the very least apologize. I attempted to give feedback to the owner but she became very defensive, dismissive and rude stating she had the waitress look after our issue so what more did we want from her. She trivialized our complaints, made excuses for the kitchen staff and at no point accepted any responsibility.
We prefer to give our support to family owned restaurants rather than larger chain ones but will no longer dine at Maximes. The unprofessionalism and rudeness of the owner far outweighed the poor quality of the food!

We are dismayed that your recent experiences at our restaurant have not been up to our usual standards. On your latest visit a month ago, the issue you mentioned to our server, Jordyn, was the side of crunchy rice. We should have replaced your side with a new order of rice, if that’s what you preferred, instead of replacing your side with a baked potatoe. Your server and management, were not aware that there were any other issues. We assumed, incorrectly, that you were happy with your entree, once your side was replaced, and that our server had resolved your only issue, to your satisfaction. It appears that we were mistaken.
We treated you with courtesy and with sincerity when you addressed your issue with management, at the front desk. We are surprised you feel otherwise. You insisted that management should have come to your table to address your rice side. We were sincere and polite when we replied that our server said she resolved the issue.
We should have apologized for disappointing you. Obviously, we dropped the ball. We do value your feedback and it helps us to make improvements to the consistency of our entrees. We hope we can convince you to change your mind and to give us another chance to impress you. We would love to invite your family back to have dinner on us. The surrounding were posh and lovely. Decorated in a 17 to 1800 decor, so we were disappointed in our food.
Our calamari was overcooked or freezer burnt. The chicken cubes were tasteless and served without sauce. Very dry.The liver and onions had a poor tasting bread covering without flavor and gravy was a chemical based. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and lots of onions but no bacon.
Prices were high for the quality we received.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate hearing from our guests. Our calamari (baby squid) is made fresh daily. It is cut up by our cooks, lighted breaded and then deep fried for 2 minutes. If it was overcooked, we apologize. If you are referring to the Chicken Souvlaki skewers, they are seasoned in a marinade and then grilled. They should not be dry. We do offer our delicious house made tzatziki sauce, as an add-on for 1.95, if our guests wish to order. The liver is super popular on both the lunch and dinner menus. We are surprised you did not care for the breading on it. Our beef gravy is made from scratch with beef stock. The liver and onions can be ordered with onions or bacon or both. A guest has to order the bacon. It is not included automatically with the entree.
If for any reason our guests are not enjoying their meal, we appreciate it very much if they send it back to the kitchen, or at least let their server know. We are happy to rectify or replace any item that is not to the guest’s liking. We wish for our guests to leave happy and excited to return again. Our goal always is to provide delicious, quality comfort food at affordable prices.

My wife and I visited Maxime's this week for our 20th wedding anniversary. We had been to this restaurant many times in the past and had always had great experiences. This time however, was a very different story.
We were placed at a table that was quite close to a large group of people. Within minutes, another couple was placed next to us. In consideration of COVID, we found this odd as the restaurant was essentially empty and for that reason, there was no need to place customers so close together.
The soup was delicious but lukewarm. My wife's entree (Veal Burgandy) was inedible. It was not tender and the flavour was extremely unappealing. I spoke with a manager immediately (who did not apologize) but did ensure it was replaced with a Lemon Caper Chicken (for which we paid full price) which was delicious. At no time did management come to our table to ensure our satisfaction with the second entree, which we found unusual as this is typically customary within other restaurants. One dessert was provided free of charge to make up for the Veal Burgandy.
I called Maxime's today and spoke with the GM to discuss our disappointment. She proceeded to tell me that they felt it unnecessary to have management check on our table that evening as the server had already done so. She also stated there was nothing wrong with the Veal Burgandy (that it was a top 3 seller), and that Maxime's was essentially doing my wife a favour by replacing her meal.
Based on this overall experience, my wife and I will never return to Maxime's, which is unfortunate as it used to be one of our favourite restaurants.

Thank you for choosing to celebrate your anniversary at Maxime’s. We work diligently to provide tasty comfort food, prepared fresh with quality ingredients.
We seated you at one of the 2 prime window tables in the main dining room, which are very coveted by our guests. The other couple was 2 metres (6 feet) away from you. And the table of 7 was more than 2 metres away. We assure you that as per Manitoba Health regulations, all of our guests are a minimum of 2 metres distance or more, from each other. Except where there are plexiglass barriers or shields in place. Our guests’ safety, as well as that of our staff’s, is paramount to us. The window area just happens to be a popular, requested dining area.
You did speak to a manager and described your wife’s Veal Burgundy as unappealing. We replied that our server would immediately replace it with another selection of your wife’s choosing.
The Veal Burgundy is a lightly breaded veal cutlet, grilled and served with a red wine mushroom sauce. Some of our regulars prefer it with our homemade beef gravy instead of the sauce. We did not question what your wife found unappealing. The kitchen staff examined the entree and it appeared to have been prepared up to our recipe standards. Regardless, we understand that everyone cannot love every recipe on the menu.
We are always happy to replace any dinner if a guest is not enjoying it for any reason. No questions asked. It is customary to charge for the replacement dinner, if the original dinner was up to our menu’s standards and recipe.
Our professional serving staff is trained to look after our guests and to ensure their satisfaction. Your server Debbie reported to management that your wife was happy with her replacement meal, the Lemon Caper Chicken. We were happy to treat your wife to a complimentary dessert for her inconvenience in waiting for a second dinner to be prepared.
We are dismayed that we disappointed you.

Maxime's - one block north of Bishop Grandin - has been a family go-to for many years. Their food is always good, the service is friendly and efficient, and they have good parking. There's a variety of items to choose from; fish, chicken, souvlaki and prime rib come to mind, and they always have a good variety of desserts to choose from to finish off your experience.
Their staff is very knowledgeable, with some having served there for over 30 years. It's a great place for a quiet dinner for 2, or a big group affair.

We had an amazing family dinner tonight, our server Paul was attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed, friendly and funny but not intrusive. The food tasted great and had awesome portion sizes. Very warm and inviting interior. Very safe in the covid world as well with tables appropriately spaced and closed.

Despite having been around for almost 30 years, this restaurant doesn’t get old. They provide consistently great food and service in a quiet and somewhat elegant atmosphere. I’d highly recommend their prime rib dinner, beef dip lunch, and homemade Caesar salad, but I’ve honestly never had a bad meal here. If you’re lucky you’ll get Paul as your waiter and enjoy his in depth knowledge about your food choices as well as his good humour!

This was an intimate family celebration. The food (prime rib, steak and fish) was delicious as usual and the service from Paul and Karen, extraordinary. They were extremely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. All discussions in preparation for the event, including the special ordered dessert, were carried out as planned. Thanks for helping us celebrate this memorable occassion.

Amazing atmosphere, the service is top notch. The food is just exquisite, we had the lime grilled avocado stuffed chicken special, and it was one of the most incredible meals I have had in a long time. The soup was so delicious, I enjoyed every bite.
Our wonderful waiter Darryl was just amazing, he was friendly, knew the specials (did a great job selling us on it) and was prompt with ordering, filling our waters and getting our dessert. He helped us to have the most wonderful restaurant experience.
The staff are always friendly and polite. Thank you for an amazing dinning experience.

The waiters are excellent and attend to every detail. There are two of my personal favourites which have been servers for a long time at Maximes. Karen and Paul. They are very jovial and are very entertaining while providing you with every detail of the meal. They are excellent representatives of Maximes. We have always been very satisfied with food selections and often suggested by Karen and Paul.

We recently had my mother's 65th birthday party hosted by Maxime's. Karen was the main person who we dealt with who was amazing. She helped us choose a cake (delicious) that was special ordered in. The menus we had to choose from were ALL fantastic. All the guests loved their meals. Trevor was the other server in the room and he was also excellent. They made our suprise party go off without a hitch. They only negative I would say is that we were in the green room. It was a bit tight for the 31 people we had. Also, servers had to pass through our room to serve the other private room so that was a bit chaotic. Overall it was a fanastic experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant for a group party/event again!!

Thank you for your lovely feedback. In contrast to the smaller Green Room your group was in, our Dining Lounge is a much larger and more spacious room (seats about 65 guests). We recommend the lounge as an ideal space for groups. A party of 30 would occupy a portion of the Lounge as there would be other reservations in there as well. But you would not have the extra traffic walking through that space as one does in the Green Room, which unfortunately is located in the middle of the large Dining Room and the Dining Lounge.

Maxime's a dining delight.Prime rib is always exceptional.I don't really think that you can go wrong with anything you order!New York strip,Lobster are all top notch!Great wine selection,awesome cocktails.
Not only does Maxime's hold its own against all of the big hitters.It's far superior to the chain Steak houses,and its Prime Rib is equivalent often better than that "Prime rib"specialist by Polo Park!
Best of all...you individuals who dine out regularly.Will find Maxime's a great value as well!Entrées come with soup or salad,choice of potato and rice.Beats that sprig of parsley,and a 8.00 potato.
Try the Caesar salad or Souvlaki marinated in white wine and Oregano,herbs.Honestly,you can NOT go wrong here.
If something honestly doesn't appeal to you,I would be surprised.If by chance it were to happen,the extremely well trained staff will make it right!
Ribs are great as well.This is no fly by night place.I have been dining here for over 30 plus year's!
Get there early.It's very very busy!Well worth the wait,and trip.I have never had any disappointments.My dining guest's are always more than satisfied.Especially first timers!I don't know if there's many people who haven't celebrated something at Maxime's!
Great for birthdays,graduations,anniversaries just because I love you ❤.You won't break the bank,in comparison to many other restaurants,that have a lot less to offer.Enjoy.
