Our first experience with La Bombanera was in 2011 when we stayed in Old San Juan for 3 nights. I don't remember how we came upon La Bombanera but more than likely we were guided there by the management of the small hotel. We enjoyed breakfast there twice on that 2011 visit. Back in October 2019, well before the Covid-19 situation we were on a family cruise that alighted in OSJ which is convenient as you are right there versus starting a cruise in San Juan where you have to go to the other side of the harbor. Anyway, we made our way back to La Bombanera for mallorcas having it plain, enjoying it with butter with the powdered sugar and with Serrano ham. Also had fresh OJ, a horchata and a Magna beer. The service can be rough around the edges depending on who you get. Eating at the counter is fun, as we had done previously, but with the family we sat at a banquette. The mallorcas are the star attraction at this old style eatery with some interesting design elements inside.

Coming from the UK this was a unique experience for us, felt like being in a diner from the movies of years gone by. The place was spotless and the food was great, the service was just as good, we all had something different to eat and all loved what we chose. Don’t miss this place if you’re visiting Old San Juan.

We had breakfast at La Bombonera and found the food to be fantastic. La Bombonera was directly across the street from our hotel so it was very convenient, but it is within easy walking distance of Castillo de San Cristobal. We were told it is the oldest bakery in Old San Juan and it has a very nice vibe. The seating includes booths and a counter. The counter is a little more interesting in our opinion since you can see food being prepared. Definitely worth a visit!

I was excited to visit this café based on customers' reviews. Unfortunately, I was poorly treated by the employees. I waited over an hour for a seat to learn that nobody spoke English to help me with the Spanish menu. I drunk my coffee and left the place. I will never go back there. I traveled to many places in my life and I had never had any trouble communicating. I feel the staff ignored me and didn't try to assist.

Every time I visit San Juan, we have to stop here. Small place, mainly deserts, coffee. Never had lunch or dinner here. The mayorcas are great, asked them to make a sandwich or with mutter.

My wife and I stopped by to try the famous mallorcas and enjoyed a breakfast here. Good coffee, delicious freshly squeezed juice and those very tasty pastries. A cool vibe, a mix between an old-school American diner and down to earth Puerto Rican. We'd go back.

Had breakfast here a couple of weeks ago while in OSJ. The mallorcas are perfect and wish I had some right now!! Our waiter was the bomb and we enjoyed him personally and his enthusiasm. The restaurant is super clean and décor a plus. We sat in booth and so comfortable. I could have stayed longer there but needed to begin my touring around OSJ. Thanks for a very enjoyable breakfast experience.

This was the only old San Juan restaurant we visited twice. First we visited for a late morning snack with coffee. On our second visit we ate lunch. Portions were large. Good value. This is where the locals eat. Check out their coffee maker behind the counter. They said it was 100 years old. It worked great!

Authentic & traditional Puerto Rican breakfast. Very quaint place. Easy to grab a quick bite and/or filling breakfast. Fresh, really amazing bread. Pastries too. This is a classic place. The service was friendly and fast. Prices are very good too. Inexpensive and delicious.

I am a grandpa but when I was a child, I used to go to La Bombonera with my grandmother to visit this restaurant famous for Mayorcas with coffee. If you ever visited San Juan do not missed La Bombonera you won't regret it.

Bad food, over-cooked eggs, told they ran out of syrup for pancakes. Treated like a second class customer

Ok so we stopped at this restaurant as part of our foodie tour. I got to taste the mallorca bread with butter, which was so delicious! 😋 I wish I had taken some with me. If I lived in San Juan I would literally be here every single morning. It taste so fresh and light. Also, try some of that wonderful fresh squeezed orange juice while you are there. 😉
