Unfortunately, we came to eat after sunset and missed the magnificent panoramic view out of the windows in our part of the dining room. As far as I could tell there were three distinct rooms but only one with a fantastic view. Try to ask for it if you make reservations and you will need them most days. The El Tovar is a 100 year old hotel with a great history. The dining room has beautiful high ceilings and tables spaced reasonable distances apart.
We had a great waiter namedJames, who knew everything about the menu and was very honest with his recommendations. He also was not obtrusive in any way, and only gave his opinion when asked. One of the most professional waiters I have ever encountered.I went against his choice for appetizer and I was disappointed while my wife chose his suggestion, a delicious ginger carrot soup and was pleased. We chose to split the chicken entree for a main course, and they divided the plates in the kitchen. The breasts were moist and tender and accompanied by vegetables and mushrooms. My onion soup was poor. Do not order it.
For dessert, James suggested the peach and blackberry pie. The crust was very soft and the peaches worked very well in the dish while I felt the blackberries were unnecessary. With drinks, which were not so generous, the bill came to under 100 dollars with the tip included. Stick to the wine list. There are some very good by the glass selections. This is one of the best places to eat in the park so definitely worth the visit.

We were staying for one night at The Thunderbird Lodge, which is next door to El Tovar, so based upon reviews and proximity booked a table for dinner that evening and what a great decision it was.
We started off with drinks in the adjoining bar then moved on to our restaurant table at our booked time. All of the staff were very courteous and professional and the room itself is something very special with wood panelled walls, roaring fireplace and a real authentic lodge feel.
The food was very well executed, wine was excellent and without a doubt, we enjoyed a wonderful evening at El Tovar with no faults whatsoever.
I’m sure with the location of this restaurant, it could be so easy to let standards go, charge high prices and they would still have the turnover of tourists still flocking in, but this is most certainly not the case. Whilst not a cheap eat out, the experience delivered in all aspects, food, service and room is very good value and if that is what you like, it is highly recommended.

Lunch at the El Tovar Hotel dining room is a true classy fine dining experience, worth the few extra dollars more than the casual restaurants available in the Grand Canyon National Park. Service and the food was very good, from the French Onion soup to the deserts, we enjoyed everything, including the historical ambience and of course, the location is unbeatable. On our next trip to the Grand Canyon, I will definitely make dinner reservations to dine here again! Overall Rating ~ Very Good

We stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge and were able to make same day dinner reservation. Our table was ready for us as we walked in from the trail behind the restaurant.
Chris and Bradley made us feel right at home and well taken care of. We had soup , spinach salad and el Tovar chicken. The meal portion was just right, tasted the best ( compared to other national park dinners), and everything was also reasonably priced. We had a great dinner here and would highly recommend El Tovar.

We stayed at the El Tovar for 3 nights and ate 3 dinners in the restaurant. It is unprecedented times so I'm not sure we had a typical experience. People start to line up at 4pm to get their names on a list for dinner. It is first come - first served so you can either stand at line at 4pm and be apart of an early seating or wait until the line dissipates and have a 1-2 hours wait. The wait was not a problem for us as we were staying on site but for others getting cocktail service during the wait may have been a challenge. The restaurant is almost directly on the rim so you can enjoy the views and walk around while you wait. Service was good...I think many of the servers are long time employees. The menu had some nice options but was the same offering all 3 nights with the exception of one special of the day. I had the Duck one night which was delicious but if you are in the mood for a nice steak be prepared to pay $45+. It would offer good views if you can get in before dark!

I read the restaurant guide and it said something about it being fine dining and dress appropriately. Ignore that - the dress of the day was hiking clothes. I was the only one not ready for a hike. It is currently first come first served and you put your name on a list. At 5:30 they told us it would be 90 mins and took our cell number. Waiters patrol the lobby and bring drinks (the bar is currently closed). We sat outside and enjoyed chatting with others and of course, gazing at the stunning view. Our wait was only 30 minutes. The service was excellent. The wine selection was sparse - only 1 Chardonnay by the glass was offered. My steak was nearly $50 and was acceptable. Dining partner ordered the trout and enjoyed it. Chocolate cake was fantastic. Our waiter said it was at 50% capacity and we felt very comfortable.

We got there after 2pm so the only option was appetizers in the Lounge ( saloon?). There are only a few items on the menu , and they are a little pricey - but not as pricey as food at other attractions like Amusement parks.
The food was AMAZING!
We had beef sliders, parmesan fries, and nachos . They were all excellent. The aoili on the sliders was top notch. The nachos were thick and freshly fried.
My only complaint is it was a little hard to flag down someone to take my order.

My girlfriend and I agree this place is terrible. Air conditioner barely working. Flies on the window. Dank run down smell. No bread plates for the bread and butter; had to cut our bread on the menus. I've had much better steak at Cracker Barrel. You would not expect a 47 dollar filet to be tough and chewy. I didnt even eat it all. Watered down drinks. Overall, this place is just run down and sad. You would expect that with a bill for $240 for three people for dinner, the experience would have been great. The next day, my girlfriend gave them a second shot for breakfast. She said the salmon and eggs were aweful; couldn't finish it. The waiter was nice enough to offer no charge, and my girlfriend ordered over medium eggs as a substitute. The white part was clear, slimy, and runny inside. How do you get egg slime in over medium eggs?
If you want to pay $240 for tough steak, dank smell, flies on the window, watered down drinks, and cutting your bread with no plates, but have a nice view of the canyon (if you're lucky enough to get a seat near the window with flies), then this place is for you.

What a disappointment this place was. Of course it’s really your only choice, but you wow is it a disappointment. The seating is first come first served, so if a party of two takes a table right by the window, you won’t be able to get a seat there, even if you come all by yourself. We were actually a party of four, and managed to score a table, so no complaints there. Our poor server, she was basically working the entire seating area, so it took her a while to get to us - which applied to taking our order, receiving our drinks, then our food, and finally our check. Anyway, all would be forgiven if the food and or drinks had been good. Our Irish coffees were made with weak coffee and the sugar hadn’t even been dissolved. The food was very “meh”, including some non-food in my friend’s duck sliders. Anyway, if you are here, stick with beer, wine, and straight pours of hard liquor.

After trying for 2 weeks to make a reservation for the dining room during a very busy Spring Break season we gave up. We were walking around the canyon by El Tovar and decided to just check and there was an opening in 20 minutes which I quickly booked! What a score.....I had a gourmet Elk Burger which was a first for me....it was fantastic....my fiance had pasta which was equally as good. For the popularity of the restaurant and the great location overlooking the canyon I was surprised how reasonably priced it was too! Highly recommend to all to give it a try and don't give up if you cant get a reservation.

El Tovar Lodge is beautiful and the dining room is spread out to give one a sense of privacy while dining. We had dinner here, and the service was outstanding. The food was good but not necessarily outstanding. We ordered a steak and a pasta dish and both were good but based on previous reviews we were expecting higher quality meals. We each had a cocktail and shared a dessert and the total bill was under $100.

The promised takeout service to accommodate guests, who have no real other options and might have COVID concerns, is indifferent and slapdash. My $11 lunch bowl of chili was two-thirds of a coffee cup in a paper bag with no lid on it and they failed to include the corn muffins that go with the dish. I understand COVID requires restaurants adjust their service. Most have figured it out since March.

Wonderful hotel, view etc but the restaurant is poorly managed. All blamed on COVID of course and that undeniably has impacts but the utter and complete lack of communication from management is inexcusable. Two and a half hours wait time. No ability to make a reservation. No waiting accommodation. Can’t get a drink from the bar because it’s closed but oh, they one poor lady delivering drinks to room service and the 60 people waiting for a table. The manager could have considered offering appetizers for sale but no can’t do that. Oh but you can get food to take back to your room. They just haven’t thought things through AND there is no place else to eat in the area. Oh and no preference shown to the people staying at el Tovar. You can be staying in a camper a mile away and get the same treatment at the restaurant. Makes no sense.

March 2017 - We made reservations WAY in advance to make sure our trip would not have any snags. I let them know that it was our anniversary and that we would love a window seat over looking the canyon at sunset (planned the reservation around sunset). They brought out dessert as a surprise and wrote Happy Anniversary along the rim of the plate. The food was incredible and the wait staff made you feel like you were their only guests.

This was my first visit to the Grand Canyon and I wanted to start off with lunch at the Historic El Tovar.
We found beside the Hopi House as we were not guests of El Tovar, but the dining room is open to the public.
If you love history, this is a must see. El Tovar and the Grand Canyon National park go hand in hand.
The hotel opened in 1905 and is built of native boulders and Oregon pine.
El Tovar is named for Pedro de Tovar who led an expedition into Hopi Indian territory in 1540.
The interior is very inviting, with a fireplace going and large windows that offer glimpses of the canyon.
The service was excellent and the prices are absolutely reasonable. I am actually surprised everyone is not dining here, perhaps they think it is for guests only.
My daughter and I the stroganoff, which came with vegetables. My husband had a steak. I added a surprisingly good house salad as a side. It had pine nuts, goat cheese & grated jicama.
The stroganoff featured AZ raised beef they was tasty and tender.
My husband had a glass of red wine from Nevada.
For dessert my daughter had the Chocolate taco, which was filled with chocolate mousse and had raspberry sauce. Very tasty. We all split it!
Our waiter Efraim was very, very nice.
We were seated near the fireplace and a window. Wonderful spot where we were able to take in the room.
The gentleman who showed us to our table also was able to provide us with a history of the hotel and dining room. There is a small private dining room to your left before you walk into the main room. Not sure if this is set up as display or is still used, but he explained that Teddy Roosevelt used to dine there. Most of the room is still original. Sorry I do not recall his name as he was very informative and also provided a great tip: to visit the History Room at the Bright Angel Lodge.
The El Tovar and its dining room provided a great starting off point for getting to know the South Rim. There are wonderful vantage points to see the canyon here as you walk up toward the Village.
I like seeing the beauty of nature with all the modern comforts nearby.
