1 week before Christmas Day we went to The Farmers Arms to ask if they would have the wine I like in for Christmas lunch. The barmaid said she would make a note of it but it wasn’t to be. The starter: the pate was...good (bought in) but there wasn’t enough toast to eat it with. Main Course: the plate was just one big mess! The beef would have been lovely, but the majority of it was cold! Also there should have been a gravy boat. Dessert: very nice cheesecake, cinder toffee had no business being on the plate. All over this was not a good experience, we will give The Farmer’s Arms a miss from now onMore

• Great costumer service • Owners are such lovely people • Would recommend anyone • Definitely stop there again Me and my partner and our friend stopped at their little cabin facing the pub for one night and Iv never met some nice and kind...owners and staff as they are very approachable and very warming with a nice log fire in the corner.More

I had booked for Xmas dinner on Xmas day. Unfortunately my experience was not of good cheer. I ordered brandy and coke and was given brandy and lemonade already mixed. The unfortunate young waitress looked like she was out of her comfort zone. I was...then given brandy and a glass of coke with ice and lemon. By this time I wondered if I had gone to Iceland by mistake as I was seated next to a window and was freezing!!. However I just put my coat back on. The meal arrived resembling a jigsaw puzzle on a plate, either the chef was not wearing his glasses or it was a treasure hunt to find the potatoes and gravy. My first mouthful was cold, and it was all downhill after that. If they needed the money so bad ( £65 a head) I would have lent it to them and stayed home in the warm. Hi Ho Ho !!’More

We thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday Roast at The Farmers Arms, Lower Apperley yesterday. We both had smaller plates of roast beef which was cooked pink to perfection. Roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower cheese, topped with a perfect home cooked Yorkshire pudding. All cooked...beautifully and very tasty. The pub is lovely, staff very friendly and helpful. Will look forward to a return visit. Thank you.More

Came past with ten minutes left of dinner service, cos the Red Lion was full, nothing a problem. Leisurely meal with attentive service. December menu had a lot I could have eaten and very fairly priced for what you got, according to number of courses....I had smoked salmon salad then the roast turkey dinner, which was excellent. Veg al dente, really enjoyed it. I would have had a pudding as part of the three course option if there was a cheese board. My partner had chicken liver parfait on a sourdough roll and wild mushroom risotto. Nice atmosphere in ancient rural pub, open fires, loved it and will be back for sure. Thank you Farmers Arms team for a good meal and a warm welcomeMore

Went there tonight to quietly celebrate my birthday. I had read the menu online and wanted to try the Korean Duck. The food was well cooked and the duck didn't disappoint, perfectly spicy and very tasty. The young lady serving us was on her first...big service, and she soon got into the swing of it and was very pleasant and professional. Good food, great staff, lovely pub.More

I visited this place Friday evening with my wife and the kids. We were welcomed so warmly and loving. The front of house staff, say no more. They are incredible. The waitress who served us, so welcoming, polite and smiley. The pub itself has changed...so much for the better. Owners or owner have done a brilliant job. Such a great atmosphere to eat. To top this. The new menu is marvellous. So many great dishes. The prawn cocktail is just heart warming to say the least. We ordered a bolognese, which I must say is so delicious and fresh. The cajun chicken burger my son had. Oh my god it was so tender and full of flavour. Wife had the fish and chips. Which the fish was cooked to a great standard. And finally the pie of the day. The pie I tried some, lush. And the mash. I just can't say no more. Then the chef came out. And we spoke with him. Such a inspirational chef. And so polite. Said he's the new head chef. And I'm glad we can have a pub where its so welcoming and decent food is served. We shall be returning on a Sunday. Recommended by the chef. Thanks to everyone who made our evening amazing and thanks to the chef for the stunning food.More

This pub was our go to place for Sunday lunch on our way home from Cardiff rugby for many years. After our most recent experience, it will be our last. We arrived on time to a fullish pub in semi chaos. Our table was not...ready as it needed to be cleared. We were perfectly happy to sit in the armchairs in the bar atea. Then we waited 30 minutes whilst people were coming in unbooked and instantly seated . We complained and taken to a table with a very wonky leg which we fixed whilst waiting again. No drinks, no menu, no waitress. Eventally a little girl came who clearly hadnt a clue but we smiled and ordered drinks. My husband picked one beer, it did not appear , then a different beer. This time the boss turned up and told us there was basically no beer because they had been drunk dry by a function the day before. We should have left but we were starving. We stuck it out...no cutlery, no pudding menu no glass of water. The food itself was tasty but by then we were truly fed up. We ate up, paid the bill and left. We know staff need to be trained if they are new and we are not blaming the waitress. Its the mamagememt who need to be in charge of situations. Sorry, but they have lost our custom.More

We have visited this eating pub many times over the years and always go out of our way to visit whenever we are passing in transit Birmingham to Cardiff. This time we battled through flooded roads to get there for a booked sunday lunch. It...was chaotic to put it mildly. Totally ignored by staff, put in bar to wait whilst they cleared our table ,sat for over 30 minutes whilst people were coming in unbooked and were seated ahead of us. When we complained we were seated and then ignored again. No menus, no offer of drinks. If we were not so hungry we would have left. My husband asked for 3 differemt beers, each time the waitress came and went, beer not available. Eventually the boss turned up with a half hearted excuse about a function the previous day. The food eventually arrived which was warm and tasty and reasonable quality but damage had been done. I dont believe we were the only ones having pooŕ service. The waitresses seemed to have no idea. Never again. Off to the Red Lion at Peterstowe next time which is light years better.More
