What a meal - we worked our way through the extensive dinner and drinks menu with 3 courses plus shared desserts. All of us, including our normally fussy 9 year old, enjoyed our meal. They were ever so nice to put half portions on the plate for our child too. Highlights included pasta with rabbit ragu, onion filled with barley and vegetables and great, carefully selected local wines.
We also stayed in the hotel for a few nights. The breakfast buffet offerings are second to none by Italian standards - with self made jams, freshly baked bread, local honey.
The family running everything is friendly and very attentive.

Incredible restaurant, incredible cuisine, incredible wine list. This family owned and operated restaurant was the most welcoming, lovely place to have an elegant meal with our family while in Friuli/the Carso. The cuisine is very much an elevated expression of the local terroir, using creative combinations of herbs, meats, vegetables and grains to offer dishes unlike any others you will find. The family is incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable, and we were well taken care of. We will ABSOLUTELY return and I highly recommend this magical place to anyone in the area!

A bit off the main roads, in very calm settings, this restaurant combines professionalism, tradition and modern cooking. Everything was delicious, good match of regional wines, great desserts, good service, reasonable price. We will return when we are in the region.

This family-run restaurant serves well-made traditional food. Especially their pork cheeks in the summer menu were excellent, but everything was well made. Their signature wine at 15 euros a bottle was definitely worth tasting. Service is great with this family feeling and attention.

We arrived, nice people. BUT when arrived the first plate…. Incredible: really NOT fresh pancake, in pieces, refreshed with hot water, on top of an ognion “purée “, decorated with a piece of dry ognion…. Nothing just cooked for us, just old things, ready to eat.
The worst arrived after: wild pork with polenta: I had three pieces meat in my plate, thin, quite grey-black so or it has been cut after deep congelation and heated after or cooked and kept vacuum packed in the fridge.
So: the concept of traditional “premiate recette di famiglia “ and just have just old food from the fridge is very… at least a deception.
I’ll send the same remarks to the Guide Michelin.

We were a family group of 12 people and enjoyed the food at this nicely located restaurant. However, pricing was really too much and ridiculous that makes the good food not worth it. I do not recommend it unless you are ready to pay hefty price.

This was not our first time at this wonderful restaurant, nor our last! The setting, exquisite local food and wine, plus extraordinary service, all make for a delightful experience. On a rainy day, the entire afternoon slipped happily by as we tried lamb, asparagus main courses, and paired wines from the region. Highly recommend one of the three choices of fixed price menus, with wine; definitely worth every euro. Just be sure to have one able driver to go back down the winding roads, after the gratis liqueur is served! 😁

Spent a Noveeber Sunday evening with the host and his family as we were the only guests. That was a great luck and privilege as it is not typical for the house but Sundays are usually full for lunch. Absolutely cosy, tasty and warm interiors and nothing there is coincidental. It reflects the great Devetak family's soul and mind. The food reflected the same attitude: prime quality ingredients and a tremendous skill in the kitchen to present the historic Karst dishes in a contemporary way. As already mentioned by several experts, the wine cellar is a treasure vault and Avgustin, the boss has an exceptional understanding of this part of the life. We described to him our expectations for the wine of this particular evening and he came back with an outstanding match.
The next morning breakfast was a celebration per se, something which guarantees a good start of the day. A substantial contribution comes from Sara, the oldest daughter who runs a nature-friendly farm, producing fruits, vegetables and meat products od the highest standards.
Bottom line: a place for all those who understand and value excellency and passion in life.

We celebrated an important birthday and throughout the whole process of deciding the menu to layout of the table we felt the owners were really happy to help us. The Lokanda serves local home cooking with a contemporary twist but always focusing on the product and its origin and the menu offering reflects this being seasonal and not too long or opting for the usual easy choices. The wine selection is also very large and of good quality. Service attentive and with a smile made us feel comfortable and we lingered over our food and wine until late afternoon. The location on top of a hill is beautiful and one could take some really nice walks and explore the area.

Celebrating my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, we ended up spending almost four hours at this celebrated restaurant located in the Carso area near the Slovenian border.
Family owned by generations, what makes this place so different and unique is the traditional cuisine. It's a mix of northern italian and slovenian style. Wine cellar is incredible. It goes from local Friuli wines to French burgundy and Bourdeaux to Piemonte and Tuscan selection. I'm sure you will find the wine you would love.
What makes this restaurant special is the fact that the whole family is involved in the business: the chef, the host, servers until the products they serve has been produced by their farm.
Can't wait to go back. In the photos just a preview of what we ordered: ravioli with artichokes and trout egss, and the traditional tripe (trippa) serverd in a unique shaped glass bowl. Some of us had "baccala'" and Faraona dish, which was excellent. Tiramisu is Ok but I'd go with a dessert more from the local tradition. Let the owner suggest you some dishes, don't go with the classic italian menu. You are not there for that.

We were first here two years ago following the trail of the Buon Ricordo society of Italy. This is a union of restaurants whose members offer a special dish and when you order that specialty you receive a charming dinner sized plate as a souvenir. The plate is made in the famous house of Vietri in Vietri Sul Mare. We had a wonderful experience two years ago and decided to return this month as the restaurant had changed the design on their plate. Collectors always want the next design! We were delighted with our meal two nights ago.
This is a family owned and run business and has been since 1870. This generation Dad is very present and his daughters are in house as well as the producers of almost all of the ingredients they use from jams to salamis - and all of it is fabulous. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu - all of it is based on local, traditional recipes.
In addition to a wonderful meal, you can stay in one of their charming rooms - 8 in all. This is a real plus when you have enjoyed a meal and don't want to be wandering around the hillsides to try to find your accommodation. Breakfast is a fabulous spread including all of their homemade jams, jellies and chutneys and hot eggs are cooked to order too.
Definitely recommend a visit to this gem.
