As always never disappointed when we come here, the chicken satay was delicious according to she who must be obeyed, my burger and salt and pepper chips were top drawer, staff very courteous and service excellent
We have been coming to the Church for nearly 30 years and this was the most disappointing meal I've had. We were in the main body of the pub, and in spite of booking well ahead, our early-evening table was not ready when we all...arrived, so our party (some of whom had mobility issues) was obliged to stand waiting at the bar. When our table was finally ready, there were only 5 chairs at the 6 places, and we had to retrieve one ourselves. The menu was restaurant style food and prices to match, yet the table was sticky from earlier drinkers and was laid with 'pub grub' style cutlery and napkins. Several of the starters were over-seasoned with either salt or pepper or both (yet none of the waiting staff queried why some dishes had been left half finished). Stand out starter was the asparagus with goat's cheese mousse and Parma ham. For mains I ordered the salmon which came with a kale accompaniment which was full of grit and had clearly not been washed. Sending it back, a second serving was no better in spite of protestations from the manager that it had been washed. To their credit, there was no charge made for the drinks I subsequently ordered, but this corner-cutting marred both my meal and the atmosphere of the evening. I sincerely hope that the hygiene of the rest of the kitchen was superior to the level given to this lowly little vegetable dish. Again several of the main courses were rather too heavy on the seasoning, and this led us all to agreeing that, hopefully, we had caught the kitchen on an off evening and that things would be better the next time we visited. One final gripe...when the combined age of 6 diners is in excess of 400 years, it's rather grating to be continually addressed as 'guys' by the waiting staff. Once is bad enough, but it went on all the way through the meal, and became rather patronising.More
Polite service and food was nice and hot.
We had roast dinners which to be honest were disappointing , the Yorkshire puddings was hard , the roast potatoes were more like boiled potatoes.
It wasn’t awful but definitely not worth the money.
Out following the easing of some lockdown restrictions came here for lunch. Although technically allowed inside, we decided to eat in the outside seating area - fab area, undercover with heating if needed. The Church have really adapted their operating model to support the community...during these difficult times - and wish them every success as we now start to get back to some normalityMore
We called in a couple of weeks ago as lockdown was easing. The service and food was as good as usual and the covered outside area certainly has a good feel to it.
I think the management and staff have done a great job during...the last 12 monthsMore
Just wanted to heap some praise on this great little pub/restaurant. It’s been a favourite of mine for many years because of its great food - fresh, homemade, delicious.
Any now it’s reinvented itself and is my go-to place for coffee and meeting friends. The...coffee is fantastic, the staff and service excellent. They’ve done everything they can to make their outdoor space warm and comfortable. Gazebos to provide cover, with flowers around the roof. Heaters installed and blankets and hand sanitiser available.
I’m a stress head about COVID but I feel very safe here.
So thank you and very well done.More
The Church Inn is a shining example of taking adversity (Covid) and making it work for you. The pub/restaurant set up a takeaway and outside service (when allowed) very early on in the pandemic and they have been very successful.
Queues star from 7.00am for...coffee and croissants and continue through the day.
We stopped for a sandwich to takeaway on our walk, and it was superb - one of the most delicious we have ever tasted! Well done Church Inn - you deserve to succeed.More
