They serve Ivatan food served in the breadfruit leaf. It was very good. One must prebook as I understand they don’t serve walk-in customers
We sampled the food here because the guide told us this is where to eat if you want native Ivatan food. We did and it was well worth it. The food was a mix of native pork marinated and deep fried, turmeric rice (they call...yellow rice) wrapped in breadfruit tree leaf. If you want to sample Ivatan cuisine, try this place.More
If you want to sample what Ivatan dish taste like, this is the place to go. Tip, reserve one day before.
It was recommended as the place to go for local cuisine. We were served average tasting food and it wasn't reasonably priced as well.
Vunong Dinette is the only decent restaurant we’ve visited that is worth every penny. Their food isn’t pretentious and is absolutely delicious!! They do not have a menu but they just serve a set meal for 350(?) pesos per person (I forgot if it was...350 or 300). Their uved and pako salad are to die for!More
Most of the resto here in Batanes needs to have reservation. Primary reason is because they don't cook large amount of foods specially this season because of a few tourists. I made a reservation here c/o Ate Linda of TimeTravel Lodge. They served their foods...wrapped in what they called Vunong. It's a large leaf. I was told that they usually serve the vunong during special occassions. The foods inside the leaf are rice (java riceI think), lunis (like a prok adobo), fish, uvud balls and beef. It also includes beef nilagay and kmaotecue. The total amount is 300.00 and not bad for a set meal. It's delicious and I was so happy because I was able to eat local ivatan dishes. The set up is so nice as well. Don't miss this place!More
my first authentic Ivatan meal. everything was wrapped in a leaf. it had yellow rice. pork, chicken and soup (on a bowl). very good way to experience authentic ivatan meal
Our first local meal on Day 1 of our "Great Batanes Adventure" was care of Vunong Dinette. We enjoyed the menu from soup to dessert. It was a treat to enjoy the main dish wrapped in the traditional bread tree leaf which is paired with...tumeric boiled rice . Jessica, our host / chef even kept us company with interesting bits on local history and culture. Superb food!More
It was a rainy night for dining but it was worth eating in this restaurant because of the uniqueness of their food presentation. The hot beef broth with fern leaf kept us warm. We enjoyed unfolding the breadfruit leaf where the tumeric rice and the...variety of food like banana pith balls, adobo, and beef tapa were wrapped. The fish goes well with the fern salad. Their buttered turon was so good!More
This is my first meal courtesy of Bisumi tours. Enjoyed the traditional Ivatan dishes served in leaves. They served turmeric rice and the famous "pako" salad
We found out about Vunong through Bisumi tours and they handled our reservation. Seating and set menu orders are limited so you definitely need to make a reservation. Jessica was very warm and welcoming and we enjoyed the traditional Ivatan dishes served in leaves. Everything...was delicious and we enjoyed a nice dinner on her porch. Thank you for your hospitality!More
We had lunch included at this venue during our island tour with Bisumi Tours. Outdoor dining in a lovely setting. It was also our first taste of Ivatan Food. Not a real fan of this type of cuisine. The meats cooked in the local leaf...were quite chewy and overlooked. The ubud balls were far too garlicky for me. This was served with a turmeric rice. I was a fan of the paco salad which was made from the local ferns. Desert was some fried banana.More
Vunong is Ivatan for leaf. The rice and viands are packed in the vunong which in English is a leaf of the breadfruit tree. It is much like a binalot. The viands consist of beef tapa, their local meatball, uved, made of banana corm (base...of the banana plant) and minced fish, beef or pork, lunyis (salted pork fried in its own lard). The rice is yellow, maybe turmeric was used. It is a bit pricey for PHP300 per balot but it came with bulalo soup and pako salad. The lunyis was hard we couldnt chew it, However, it is a novel experience. You have to make a reservation, It is a house with the courtyard and veranda converted as dining area.More
we just got a flyer of this restaurant from the airport. reservation is advised. went there around 6pm and the food was served after a few minutes. they call it vunung. 2 packs of food wrapped using big kabaya leaves. 1 pack contains the turmeric...rice, the other pack contains the viands. They also serve yummy salad! Coconut crub can also be ordered (depending on the availability)More
