We ordered chicken wings and asked the owner to suggest a beer. It was perfect.
Owner/Staff is very very nice and friendly. This was our first time in Germany and (may be) since this is a not a big city, it was not easiest to communiate in English.
But the owner/staff in this restaurant understand English and make you feel welcome. The prices are also very reasonable and portions are at least 150% of what we get in Amsterdam.

Very good food, very good service too, very attentive and with good recommendations to eat. He has.recommended.share plate with the children, and has given us recommendations of a park to go with the children. Friendly and fast!! And as an end... It's pretty cheap. Ate here on three different nights. Dined outside in the garden and enjoyed inexpensive beer and food. The owners were hospitable and accomodating. It had a smoky indoor area, but we prefered the outside anyway.

We ate here twice during our 5 day stay. We ate both times in the outdoor bier garten. Service was fine. I had the half chicken both nights. The first night, it was THE BEST CHICKEN I HAVE EVER EATEN. The greast was perfectly cooked. SO juicy and tender. The second night it was good but not great. Tykewife had wienerschnitzel which was good. Prices are good.

We ate here a couple of times on our first trip to Gengenbach and also on the latest trip. Once we ate in the Biergarten. There was no one there and we waited and waited and finally a man came out. I couildn't tell if he was rude or just trying to be funny. It was a trying experience to get our order taken.
The next time we ate inside. There are two inside parts - the bar and the restaurant. Clearly the bar is the main venue. There were two women playing video games when we sat down. Again no one came. We left but didn't see anywhere else in town we wanted to eat at that night, so we went back. The two women were still there. They showed us that we had to ring a bell which we did and the waitress came. She was pleasant.
The food was fine. The first time I had bratwurst and the wife had a salami and cheese sandwich. The second time I had a half chicken and fries. They deep fry the chicken and it had an excellent crispy skin. I also had fries - too many to finish. The wife had bratwurst and potato salad. All the food was good and the price was excellent.
I don't know if smoking is allowed in the restaurant, but it clearly was in the bar and the smoke travelled to the restaurant, so if you don't like the smell of smoke, the inside restaurant isn't the place for you.
