This is a strip-mall Pho restaurant, not uncommon. I use chicken, Pho Ga, as the "acid test" since this requires a subtle, but aromatic, recipe. The best recipes include coriander, clove, occasionally anise, and cilantro in cooking the chicken. These subtle spices make a big...difference in the often dry, white meat, chicken. Some get it right, others come across as Americanized version, nothing special, nothing offensive. This falls into that category. If they can't make the Pho Ga well, I expect every other recipe will fall into the same category, acceptable.More

What better meeting place than surrounded by spring rolls in peanut sauce, Pho chicken soup, and vermicelli chicken with tangy sauce, and Vietnamese iced coffee!

Pho Thang Long (PTL) is on a restaurant row as there are at least 4 places rubbing elbows they're so close. PTL is authentic, if it's good Pho you want; unpretentious in every way. Our 1st visit was on an especially cold day, so they...were packed with a line to get in. Almost a base level cafeteria seating with almost every person bobbing while slurping up their tasty pho. The broth is sooo flavorful, the noodles, just the right texture and the proteins cooked sumptuously. Fresh food, made daily. The service staff is pleasant and food comes out quickly. On a hot or cold day, they bring warmth to the table. Thank you, Pho Thang Long.More

As everyone has mentioned, this is a no frills restaurant. But a family run business with consistent taste and quality or they cld'nt attract the number of regular clients as was visible when we had our lunch there yesterday! Very delicious food! The appetizer, summer...rolls with shrimp had a unique taste & the fried chicken wings were superb! The beef stew bo kho had a distinct spicy taste! The chicken & beef noodle phos were delicious. As somebody had mentioned, they were not skimpy with the meat and side salads. The meat found in the pho was more than enough and when requested they were only happy to bring fresh plates of salads. We topped off our lunch with boba drinks. We had an enjoyable lunch. Will certainly visit again.More

My husband, two teen daughters, and I just had dinner here and had a wonderful meal. I agree with other reviewers about the no frills, but the food was delicious. My husband had beef pho with steak & flank, my daughters had chicken pho, and...I had the vermicelli bowl with lime chicken. We all enjoyed our meals! I was impressed with the fresh greens with my dish.More

As other reviews have noted, this is a no frills restaurant but clean, comfortable and located in a shopping center that offers necessary retailing and services. It's a convenient place to stop in for lunch while doing errands in the Fairfax Circle area. We had...pho as well as what the restaurant calls Vietnamese stew. The pho is excellent, with good taste and ingredients. You can take your pho with either noodles in it (which we did) or with French bread. The Vietnamese stew is a bit of a challenge. The stew is hearty with a good deal of meat and it is tasty. However, the restaurant's menu designates the stew as "spicy" and they are not kidding. The stew starts out tasting so good and then, after a few minutes, the spicyness got me. Maybe I'm too sensitive to strongly spiced dishes but this stew was so strong that I had to exchange it for the pho my wife was having. After the stew was mixed some more in the big bowls we were served I had more and enjoyed the excellent taste. We had had summer rolls also. They were acceptable tasting but nothing special. This is a good restaurant but watch out for the spicy dishes. Big bowls of pho and stew are in the $8 to $10 range, depending on the size one orders. You get a lot of food for the money.More

I thought I found a hidden gem the other day when I stopped in and had their bun bo hue. It was spicy, aromatic and has lots of meaty flavor. I brought my friends in yesterday to get them to try this alternative to the...typical pho. Imagine my dismay when the noodles that came out lacked the red sate color and citrusy lemongrass flavor. The noodles were also over cooked. What happened??? Was the chef off that day? Was it a too-new pot and not ready for serving? In an effort to enhance the flavor, I asked the waitress for some shrimp paste. She looked at me. "We don't have that." Really? A Vietnamese restaurant doesn't have this condiment? I will not be coming back.More

No frills restaurant with fast, friendly service. We were seated quickly, brought ice water and menus and had just enough time to peruse the choices. I had two experienced diners with me, so I didn't need any help from our waiter. Food came quickly, it...was FRESH, and HOT! A plate of bean sprouts, jalapeno pepper slices, mint leaves and lime wedges make it so you can personalize your bowl. Sizes are children's portion, "regular" and large. The regular is great for a lunch. Fantastic and fresh!More

No frills here but the pho is good and it's quick. Great broth, tender meat and good noodles. Service is efficient and the value is great, there aren't many places my family can get a healthy, hearty meal for less than 40. Best pho around

In the past 30 years I've eaten at cheap and expensive Vietnamese restaurants in places from Paris to British Columbia. If it's Pho you want, Pho Thang Long is the Best of Breed in Fairfax. The ambiance will be familiar to anyone who has eaten...at the Pho 75 chain. Pho Thang Long's signature dish is as tasty as that of the defacto standard, Pho 75. What makes Pho Thang Long better is its larger menu. Besides the usual varieties of Pho,the menu includes Bo Kho stew, Cha Gio, and spicy Bun Bo Hue. Pho Thank Long is a family run business; at least two family members are always there to ensure the quality of the food and service. It's home-style Vietnamese food that matches up with the best in the area, presented in a bare bones setting at a good price.More

I got hungry after spending close to two hours at a nearby Microcenter, so I looked up nearby restaurants' ratings here and on Yelp and this place came out ahead of two or three others. Naturally, I gave it a chance. I ordered spring rolls,...No. 1 Pho, and an iced coffee. Spring rolls with shrimp I enjoyed very much, they were delicious. The pho itself was just OK. It wasn't bad, but at the same time I can tell it wasn't as flavorful and plentiful as I was used to at Pho 75, for example. What struck me as odd was skimpiness on garnish. I got a really tiny 4 small leaves of basil, 4 small slices of chili peppers, and 1 small cube of lime (bean sprouts were of adequate size). Not much to write home about the amount of meat in the pho itself, but it was ok. Will I return to this place?!?! Only if I am in the area again and determined to have a pho, otherwise a completely forgettable experience.More

The beef stew with egg noodles is my favorite dish in that place. Unfortunately it only comes in a big size. Their Phos are also very good, and they come in different sizes.

I work nearby so I visit Pho Thang Long often. The owners are friendly and wonderful. I love the food. For vegetarians: their vegetarian noodle soup is excellent. Try the Summer Rolls, ask for tofu and no shrimp. The peanut dipping sauce is so good...that you will want to eat every last drop. It is not a fancy restaurant. There are lots of tables in a row, paper napkin dispensers on each table but this is a great place for families with really good food.More
