The gyoza are kind of unique in the area, hard to find anything similar. Back in the 80s I'd walk in and "Charlie's" wife and mom would be making gyoza on a back table ... memories. The gyoza are the showcase, crunchy on the outside,...hot and tender inside. Aside from the gyoza, their ban ban ji salad (sesame chicken salad) and sui gyoza (boiled gyoza) are damned good too. Popularity has taken it's toll, hence the 1 order rule. On an average day 1 order (ichi mai) gets me through ... sometimes it's 3 (san mai). I love the atmosphere, it hasn't changed since I first walked in back in 1985. It's like an old, comfy diner. Love me some "CHARLIE'S GYOZA!"More

A great restaurant. The food is wonderful, I suggest the fried gyoza and chicken salad. A neighborhood restaurant with low prices and terrific food

The staff are matter-of-fact. There’s no frills about the place, but the potstickers (gyoza) are tasty. We have never had to wait in line. We go around 6 PM. I think the crowds come in after seven. TIP: remember you can order only once. There’s...no reorder. So order 20 if there are three people. We also got rice. And we bought a delicious sesame salad to share.More

Gyoza Place! Came in, got seated. Signs on wall give directions in English. As it was our 1st time to eat there, we didn’t know if we wanted 10-20-30? So to be safe, we ordered the minimum. Good, tasty, ~ but sharing 10 was not...enough for 2 of us. Well, 1-rule they have, no re-orders! You order once, eat, ... leave! We couldn’t order more, so we did as they advise. Next time, we’ll know better!More

Mankin has amazing hand made gyoza. They also make their own kimchi. I've been going there since 1993. They deep fry them in a secret sauce. It's a must eat place.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, if you don't leave base very much then yes, this would be amazing. It's close proximity to the military lifestyle is great. However, when you venture out and talk to Tokyo, Chinatown or even Machida you are going...to find much better food, period. The bottom level was extremely crowded so they moved us to the top level and the service was quick. we got the fried set and a boiled set. I thought the boiled had much better flavor, but I thought the fried was so bland and I did not think it was crispy enough. Also, it had no juiciness inside. Won't ever go back. Most gyoza I've had at "regular" places taste much better to me.Go try it for yourself.More

This place has both fried and boiled Gyoza, as well as kimche and a really good soup. The menu is limited, the place is small and crowded. But well worth it!

This is good however if you are searching for the traditional type Gyoza, this is not the place. The dumpling is larger in size and has thicker crust wrapped around. If you like volume, this might be your right place.

Good taste and reasonable volume. I eat gyouza(fried dumpling meat) and Bang Bang Chicken Salad usually. Sometimes taking out freezed gyouza for our home cooking. 20年以上通っています。 お店で食べるときは焼き餃子+バンバンジーサラダ。時々冷凍の生餃子を買っていき自宅でやります。 包装紙に書いてある料理手順をきっちり守って料理します。

I lived in this area for a number of years, and never grew tired of eating at Mankin Gyoza. I haven't returned to Japan for longer than I'd like to admit, and I still crave the food. The food is flavorful and the service is...excellent.More

Love this place. Parking on the side. You can call in for take-out or dine-in and enjoy the place. It's a simple menu and the sauces are excellent -- and critical -- for the gyoza!

They're still the best, after 36 years ago when my sister discovered Mankin Gyoza. It was unique shape Gyoza and Gyoza was so delicious. Restaurant has been in the same location and same interior design since my family walked in Mankin for the first time....Chef and staff have changed except for Mankin Gyoza. I still love Mankin Gyoza very much. I have never get tired of their flavor. Back then, there were so many an American people who lived near US Military base came to Mankin Gyoza. Location is about 35 minutes by Odakyu Line (express train) from Shjinjuku station. I don't know if you are willing to go that far to taste Mankin Gyoza. But if you happen to be nearby, I highly recommend you to go have Lunch or Dinner at Mankin Gyoza.More

The entrance is very narrow, as I recall. I do not remember a step up into the building, but it would be to close for me to call. Sorry I can't be of much help. I wasn't looking from that aspect and my memory was brief... More
