Since 1873, cable cars have run up and down the hilly city, though after the 1950s, these cars have been kept in operation more out of historic nostalgia. Seventeen miles of track remain and have been deemed a historical landmark.

Great way to see the sites.
We purchased the one day passport for $16 each. We took the cable car to just outside Fisherman’s Wharf. The weather was idyllic and we had the opportunity to see quite a lot during our ride. After spending the day in Fisherman’s Wharf, we lined up to take the cable car back to downtown San Francisco. Not sure why we had to wait so long to depart at both ends. Especially after being informed that it departs every 20 minutes.

With children there are excellent options
This time as a family I discovered the exploratory that I did not know on previous occasions since I traveled alone. Spectacular and recommended. The rest was classic. Street marketing. Park. Japanese garden. Walk on Pier 39 to the cable car exit. We did a day pass to go and return. We stopped at Lombard Street. Then chocolate. And let's see the gate hit

Iconic Cable Car Experience: A Nostalgic Journey Through San Francisco's Scenic Streets
Riding the iconic cable cars was my childhood dream come true! This San Francisco experience transported me back in time as we rolled up and down the city's famously steep hills. The unbeatable views of the City's skyscrapers, classic homes and eclectic neighbourhoods made the ride most memorable. It's an absolute must-do. Tip: Book your return trip through the cable car app for a discounted fare - it's much cheaper than paying per ride.

    SF Cable cars
We had a great time travelling along the various lines of these iconic cable cars! The operators are real characters and add to the experience, it can be busy at the starting points so you may have to wait a little. No trip to San Francisco would be complete though without riding these cars, would recommend buying a day pass. Highly recommended!

    Many residents also use it
I was quite surprised to see the turntable rotated by hand at the beginning and end of the line. There are many slopes, so it seems that it's not just tourists but also local residents who board along the way. Perhaps it's for tourists, as many people stand and stick half their bodies out when boarding. Only cash is accepted, and the system is such that staff come to collect it. At Fisherman's Wharf, the money is collected before you board. However, if it's a large amount, you'll have to bring the change later. It did seem difficult to operate.

    A San Fran Must.
We had 3 days in SF and walked everywhere, but we weren’t going to miss an opportunity to ride the iconic cable cars. Walked to the Hyde St & Beach St turnaround and picked it up from there, enjoying the ride back to the end of Powell St. A great experience. Bought our $8 single ride tickets from the kiosk there.

Great views and sights to see
The cable cars are a must do when in san Fransisco, our kids enjoyed it - it was a bit scary when going down the hills- however the driver was completely in control. You drive past all the best tourist spots and can get off and back on if you buy a full day ticket. The only negative is there is a huge wait time- the lines are massive and they don’t run enough of them at one time they have so many sitting waiting as the line gets bigger…. But once you’re on it’s a great experience.
