I love the one way streets!
Very nice big zoo. My favorite thing is that for the most part, the trails are one way. I love this! Other zoos have you going in circles. I love that there’s plenty of viewing spots so if you don’t see the animal in one part of the enclosure you may see them in another part. The prices in the gift shop were on par with other zoos.

Oregon Zoo- beautiful zoo for natural animal environments
I have been a visitor and member of the oregon Zoo for over twenty’s and seen the zoo go through many changes over the years. not all of which I like but most of which I can live with. Just read through many of. the reviews and it. seems many people love to complain about things they don’t understand. Biggest complaints: price of parking ($8) . there is a Max train stop right at the zoo and you get a discount on your admission if you take the Max. The parking overflows, traffic gets often backed up and the zoo charges admission to encourage people to take public transit. 2) can’t see the animals- some stones true for the larger exhibits which have been enlarged to create more space for the big animals like the elephants and the polar bears. also so many visitors go in the heat of the day in the summer when animals like to take a siesta. I’ve found the best days to go are when it is early in the day, there is a light rain or it is a bit chilly and the animals are out and about. 90 degree weather outs all creatures to sleep! 3) animals aren’t well taken of- the elephant exhibit paid for my portland taxpayer is incredible because of the freedom and space the elephants have to wander. Peak experience to watch them swim in the 15 foot deep pool. they are not deprived at all. 4) There are no keys and birds at the zoo. get a paper map or one online e and locate where they are. 5) train- great for families with little ones but a waste of money for adults alone with older kids. used to go to Rose Garden which was a beautiful ride but a landslide destroyed the tracks. sad they won’t fix it. A big complaint from me and others

One of the coolest zoos I’ve seen
Being from Denver, I’m used to the city zoo just being a bunch of fake habitats in the middle of the city. Oregon’s zoo is so much different and I loved every bit of it. From the start, the zoo itself just blends into the city. The environment feels completely natural and you blend right into the mossy forest. You don’t even feel like you’re in a zoo, you feel completely immersed in nature. I also appreciated the diverse animals that Oregon has, compared to other zoos I’ve seen. It’s clean, the animals don’t seem miserable, and the path is a solid in/out model. It’s impossible to get lost in this place. The only downside to going on an off-season rainy day is the lack of food. We had to walk practically halfway through before we found a food spot that was open. The little food carts were all closed.

    Even fun in the rain!
This zoo is a gorgeous walk through lush forest and spacious animal habitats. Excellent viewing opportunities with animal bedding and activities closely. Animals appear content, healthy, and relaxed with gorgeous coat colors. Favorites include Polar Bears swimming, otter entertainment, big cats. Aviary warm and walkable. Delicious hot cider at the Aviary Cafe.

    Best weather for Zoo visit
Weather unusually in 90's when we visited Oregon Zoo. The zoo is made as natural habitat for animals. Many of the animals were all visible and active, especially the Polar bear. Children were enthralled as the polar bear would pluge into water landing against glass as though wanting to break it! Giraffes, black bears, cougars and cheetah all well visible and up close. Bald eagle is a treat to view. There is an amphibian section and salmon learning center. Cafe at zoo serves salads wraps burgers and such. Entrance fee was $15. Well worth visit if you enjoy animals. Parking required and about $3.50 for 2 hours.

    A zoo in the forest
The unique thing about this zoo is you're in the forest, which I think makes for a better experience for the animals. Plenty of (paid) parking, but for the most part a typical zoo. Train costs extra too, but that's usually a given at any park.

    Great zoo!
We LOVED this zoo! It is well designed and had so many exhibits! The gift shop was big and had lots of options. There were lots of bathrooms throughout the zoo. Highly recommended this for kids of all ages! Bring a stroller because it’s lots of walking

Best Zoo I've Ever Been To - With One Small Disappointment
I'm a huge fan of zoos. I believe they're educational and excellent for conservation. I've been to zoos all over the world, but I have to say the Oregon Zoo is hands down my favourite one. Without getting too much into spoilers, the zoo is exceptionally laid out for walking or wheeling through. Mixing a zoo with a botanical garden, you'll see native flora and fauna as well as the usual mix of zoo animals. It was like going to Disneyland - you can't see the outside world from where you are, which makes it unique. The amenities were excellent - there are free water stations through the park as well as multiple places you can go for food. Lots of seating is around, and there's tons of shade for those hot days. Everything was accessible for those with disabilities which was also appreciated. Shoutout to Christopher who worked in the gift shop by the predators; he was exceptionally nice, and also found us later and offered us directions when we looked lost. My one disappointment: No red panda. :( Moshu is old, yes, but if he's out of the exhibit could you put up a sign? I wasted an hour waiting around to see if he'd come back out. That aside, any time I find myself in Oregon in the future I'm going to make time to come back here. It was a treat, a gem, and a delight.

    Delightful zoo. Don’t miss it!
I love to visit zoos in places that I visit. Although this zoo is more on the small scale, it is really a treasure. It’s very well laid out and easy to navigate. It has a nice variety of animals, including polar bears, tigers, black bears, red panda, giraffe, condors, and others. I’ll go back again next time I’m in Portland.
