Really well-put-together exhibition telling some fascinating stories
A really nice exhibition. The main sections are on marriage/birth, famous women and fashion. The famous women section was particularly fascinating with artefacts owned by various influential revolutionaries telling stories of covert actions and brave leadership. The various traditions of marriage were very interesting too. Spent a good hour or so at the museum - lovely and quiet but do watch out for mosquitoes! It’s the only place I’ve seen them in Hanoi so far. Good little shop there for postcards etc

    Great Rainy Day Surprise
A rainy day in Hanoi took us to this museum and I'm so pleased we did. The celebration of Vietnamese women and Vietnam's unique attitude of women's roles rarely seen through history. It's worth getting an audio guide which explains everything well and comes in approx 6 languages. The only suggestion I could give is to have more places to sit as you'll spend a few hours here and sometimes it's nice to sit to listen to the audio guide in some displays.

    Interesting Museum of Women’s Lives
This is a four floor museum with lots of interesting information about women’s experiences like marriage, giving birth, being part of the resistance etc. the exhibits are great. The only thing I disliked was the constant propaganda when discussing women’s experience during the war

    Great museum!
Absolutely riveting museum that depicts the contributions of women to Vietnam society. Exhibits are well presented with great explanations. Do allow at least an hour to go through and see all the various floors. Truly an enjoyable learning experience.

Excellent insight into cultural and traditions of Vietnam - not just women
Best museum we went to in Vietnam. While the focus was on women, the museum gave the most complete and tangible perspective on life in Vietnam today and in the past including daily life, traditions, and warfare. Highly recommend the audio tour as it provides a lot of colour, interesting personal stories, and context for many of the displays. Don't miss!!

Fun and factual, more countries should have a museum dedicated to the history of women
One of my favourite museums. This museum is an eye-opening history of Vietnamese women. It discusses the economic and social expectations of women, their different experiences within different communities and their roles in the Vietnam war (both generalised and specific individuals who had significant impacts in battles or behind the front lines). I particularly loved the section on matriarchal religion. Even though the focus is on women, you still learn broadly about the north Vietnamese communities and their different cultures. If you have children there’s a room where they can play, filled with kids books about various topics including women. It’s a fun one to do with friends, or to do solo.

Dont miss this. Beautiful museum, an important stop for us prior to heading north to Ha Giang and visiting ethnic vilages. The museum is very well curated and we easily could spend 2 hours there

Informative and thought provoking - worth a visit
I enjoyed the museum which was informative and revealing. Gave me somesurprising insights into women's lives in Vietnam over the years. Three levels - 1st regarding marriage, children and mother. 2nd was about women in war including militia, guerillas, those in jail and protest. 3rd on different cultural dress.

Fascinating insight into Vietnamese women’s contribution to their society.
I really enjoyed this. It was fascinating to learn the contribution of Vietnamese women through the ages and how highly they are valued. The museum was well laid out in sections, ie. family life, fashion, etc and was clean and cool. It was not busy when we went which was excellent as we could take our time.

    Fun and Educational
Loved this museum. Very educational and full of interesting materials and storyline. I brought my 14 year old son here, who is also a history buff. What I like about this museum is it's specifically about women of Vietnam and their culture. Even my son was awed! He even joked with me saying "mom, you'll need to give cows for dowry if I marry a Vietnamese girl". I just love how he was mesmerized and was so interested in this unique culture for him. It's a 3-4 floors, showcasing from birth to death of a women in Vietnam. We spent more than 3 hours here. I specially love their dresses that evolves in time. The museum itself is well kept and clean. Nice cold aircon too so it's also a reprieve from Hanoi's outdoor heat. There's also a small cafe/gift shop inside and a vending machine for water or juice at the lobby. The ladies at front speaks English and is helpful when needed. My son and I rented the headset and I recommend it. It's more fun and I see my son roaming around the museum enjoying himself and listening intently. Then he would come to me and share to me what he saw (or heard) that's extra unique to him. I loved our interaction and enjoyed how fascinated he was. An educational, interesting and super fun visit here for sure.
