Our family had an amazing and wonderful time at Valle Escondido Nature Reserve Hotel & Farm. From the moment you arrive the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer all of your questions. Our garden view room was in the new building, was large and had a very nice balcony to relax on. The breakfast included with the room was delicious and having a large grass area for our son to run around and play was a real treat. Also having the restaurant on-site was great as we could eat there without having to go out driving at night since it gets quite dark around 6pm.
Wonderful place to stay with on site trails and beautiful gardens the kids loved to play in. You can watch them play with the amazing valley backdrop while you drink coffee. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Wildlife is easy to spot on the property. There are night tours on site, restaurant and yoga as well. The butterfly gardens are on their doorstep.
The wildlife, hiking trails, and stargazing made up for all the negatives. We had two rooms reserved for two nights. Rooms 14 and 15 each had one queen size bed, bunk bed, a coffee maker, and a ceiling fan. They were dark, small, and stuffy. Either the screens on the windows were missing or ripped, so out of fear of insects entering, we left the windows closed, so no ventilation. Dinner service was terrible. Breakfast service was better. For breakfast you were able to choose one of four options, you were not able to make any substitutions, which was frustrating. Pizza was good. We went to Monteverde Cloud Forest and found that this property had much better trails and more wildlife. We saw howler monkeys, coatis, agoutis, porcupines, tarantulas, leaf cutter ants, and many, many birds on the property. And can say though, that at Monteverde Cloud Forest, we did see a Resplendent Quetzal…so that alone was worth the trip. I would not stay here again, but would definitely come back for the trails.…
I think we found this spot on TripAdvisor! You will drive down a long, dirt road and wonder if you are heading in the right direction and you'll end up at an oasis with a stunning view. We went for lunch only but it looks like a delightful place to stay or have an event. We ordered pizza and salads and local beer for lunch and all were perfect as well as the service.
Rooms are in blocks spread through the grounds, and surrounded by plants and flowers. Ours was a good size, clean and comfortable, and we had a patio area with table and chairs outside. The dining area is open air, so it can be quite cool! The restaurant looks out over a well-tended area to a tree-covered valley and as far as the pacific, with great sunsets. There are various walks within the grounds. The hotel is pretty much outside Sta Elena and quite far above it, and from the road it is reached at the end of a long drive, so it's quite a hike from the restaurants and bars in the ventre, but there are plenty of taxis available.
This place is not just a hotel, its an organic farm and a nature reserve too with permaculture design at its core. You feel at one with nature here, but with the luxury of lovely rooms that are well presented and tasteful. Breakfast at the farm to table restaurant is included and is very good. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner and there are vegetarian/ vegan options too. The grounds are wonderful, with beautiful far reaching views. There are a number of great walking trails on property taking you through the forest, with wildlife to see. Would recommend the guided night walk too, as it gives a different perspective. The butterfly farm next door is worth a visit also.
We were attracted by the environmental credentials of Valle Escondido and were delighted with our stay. The reserve itself is well worth a visit anyway with great views, walks and wildlife. The food and room were great and the service very friendly. It was very interesting to learn more about permaculture and to see it in action. It all makes an excellent base for Monteverde well away from the bustle of Sta Elena - and with a good Butterfly Farm next door.
They are doing work which looks like it will be great when done but for now it is painfully loud. This is not a long-term comment on the property, just a status update. The views are amazing as advertised.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Valle Escondido. The grounds are lovely with hiking trails to a waterfall. The view from our balcony and the dining area was amazing. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed. We loved the farm to table dining. Our only complaint was we lost power twice in the night due to high winds. Highly recommended.
We had a great stay and experience here! Very chill vibe and laid back atmosphere. It was our favorite place (out of 6) during our 3 week stay in CR. The grounds were amazing as they included about 5K of well maintained trails through a mountain rainforest preserve with great views of a waterfall and a large jungle valley. Service was excellent. The onsite resturant served a simple, yet delicious, breakfast and the dinner/lunch options were tasty. The resturant manager Alfonso really took care of us and did an amazing job making sure the guests were happy. Caroline at the front desk spoke English well and was very helpful. The rooms were clean and cute. We had a garden suite looking over a butterfly garden with assorted animals and hummingbirds making their daily rounds through the garden. We would have preferred an ocean view suite but we booked at the last minute and these were the only ones available. There was an occasional slight sewage odor we smelled from our patio which we don't think would be detectable from the upper units. It could have been from the water feature in the garden but it was very minor and no big deal. They were doing some infrastructure construction during our stay which was no problem and we expect that once they are done it will look the resort will look even better. The town is a relatively short walk away and has several resturants and services. We took a private guided tour (ask for Roy Segura) through Curi Cancha NP on a recommendation by some fellow travelers. We saw a ton of birds - too many to list. The park was not very crowded vs Monteverde. It was not primary rainforest but still full of life and very jungle like in parts. …
