PARADISE in Coron Palawan

I always celebrate my birthday outside the country before the pandemic. However, this time I chose El Rio Y Mar to celebrate my special day. This place is very close to my heart since I retired. No resort in the Philippines could even come close to El Rio. The Sea view is awesome with friendly & courteous staff. We are proud returning guests in this paradise.

The water is just a few steps in front of our cabana. Enjoyed early morning sea breeze and quiet privacy. Food is always cooked fresh & delicious, cabanas are spacious and kept clean & sanitized. Though they just reopened after the pandemic, the service was not affected. We enjoyed the hiking trails to see a beautiful view of the resort. Snorkeling for live corals & giant clams was exciting. You can request for Andrew who is an all around bankero and tour guide with a big smile.

Indeed, El Rio made my birthday extra special. The gazebo was decorated with fine taste, thanks to Tom & Benjo. Enjoyed a romantic dinner with my hubby and Kuya Zaldy playing his guitar created a birthday to remember. Manager Menchie with her business partner Janet & staff all came to greet me as well. Thank you El Rio Y Mar. You are the best ever!

This establishment is truly exceptional, nestled in a secluded natural setting, providing a real escape from the outside world. From the moment you're warmly greeted with music upon arrival at the pier, to the moment you depart, the attentive staff cater to your every need.

The magnificent underwater world is just a snorkel away, ready to be explored. This resort is human-sized where you never feel overcrowded by other guests. There is a wide selection of water activities available, some complimentary, like snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking and others at an extra cost such as water skiing, wakeboarding, towable tube riding, diving, among others.

The dining experience is more than satisfactory. It's true, the rooms may be a little aged, but everything still feels well-maintained with excellent cleanliness throughout.

Your exceptional experience begins the moment your boat transfer through the mangroves towards the resort starts, so sit back and enjoy every moment!

My only difficulty with this place is that it is isolated, so you have to use their restaurant for all meals which only opened at meal times. (I could not do my usual late lunch / early dinner at around 5:00 pm.) The advantage of that is that I could order a bottle of wine and drink it over several meals.

The staff felt as if they really wanted you to have a good stay and I liked the food at their restaurant. The breakfast buffet changed daily, and they made egg dishes to order. Some of the cabins are a five minute walk from the restaurant / bar. I was quite happy with that as it meant they were quieter, and I'm always happy to walk, but it could be a problem with some people. A long way from the most glittering resort I ave stayed at, but I prefer the smaller size and more rustic charm.

The snorkelling was not overwhelming, but I am finding few places are any more.

My recent stay at El Rio Y Mar Resort on Busuanga Island was an experience that far exceeded my expectations. Nestled in a secluded spot, accessible only by boat, this resort is a sanctuary for those seeking tranquility amidst nature's pristine beauty.

From the onset, the resort impressed me with its commitment to convenience and comfort, offering reasonably priced round-trip transfers, which I found to be a thoughtful touch given its remote location. The journey to the resort was in itself a scenic adventure, setting a perfect tone for what was to come.

The resort's landscape is breathtaking, with stunning views that encapsulate the essence of a tropical paradise. But what truly sets El Rio Y Mar apart is its vibrant marine ecosystem. As an avid snorkeler and scuba diver, I was captivated by the underwater world right at the resort's doorstep. The coral reefs are teeming with life, offering a spectacular display of biodiversity that is a testament to the area's conservation efforts.

During my stay, I was treated to an enchanting evening that beautifully melded local culture with gastronomic delight. The resort hosted a buffet dinner complemented by a performance showcasing local dances and music. This cultural immersion was not only entertaining but also provided a meaningful connection to the region's heritage.

In conclusion, El Rio Y Mar Resort is more than just a place to stay; it's an experience that enriches your soul and leaves you with memories to cherish. Whether you're drawn by the allure of underwater exploration or the call of serene landscapes, this resort promises a unique and rewarding getaway.

To start, definitely arrange for pickup at the airport or the pier. The place is not an island but can only be accessed by boat. Staff were awesome (Filipinos rock!), rooms and surrounding area were very clean. The room towels were thin and raspy. They sure need new ones. Wi-Fi was choppy. There’s a beach area, mini snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding. Although an ideal quiet place to relax, the place is confining. Food choices are limited. A Filipino expat will definitely missed that traditional home cooked food. To venture out you need to arrange for a boat ride and then land transportation going to the mainland and back, for a fee. They have tours on demand but cost more than what the mainland offers. My wife and I did enjoy our week’s stay. Oh btw, forgo the well known San Mig beer, have the Coron IPA instead.

We started our honeymoon here after a colleague gave rave reviews of the resort. The photos do not do it justice. It’s a beautiful, well-run resort on a quiet bay with friendly staff. You can snorkel or kayak in front of the property, lounge by the pool, see an amazing sunrise from their hiking trail, get massages, and arrange day trips for diving. This seems to be a popular spot for families with young children so expect kids playing games in the pool. The food was good and reasonably priced. There’s a variety of western, Chinese, and Filipino options. All in all, we loved our time and wish we stayed longer than 3 nights!

Excellent staff. Efficient airport transfers. Check-In and Out was quick. Clean rooms. We had the Casa Deluxe room. We would have preferred the Cabanas which are right on the water but they were sold out on our stay. We availed of the private half day near island trip - an isolated island out in the open sea with a single tree, another private Island with good sandy, swimming beach and coconuts and another island with excellent snorkelling areas with huge corals. The resort also has a hiking trail to the Hunter's peak - which makes for a good exercise routine and also gives you a good view of the resort and the nearby islands. I enjoyed the breakfast fares, especially the local ones (fried fresh danggit was delicious). Overall, it met my expectations for a quiet and relaxing vacation.

We spent 3 nights,4 days at El Rio y Mar resort. The resort is beautiful , very clean and with very good water pressure! The staff is also friendly and they welcome you with a nice song. However keep in mind that you are isolated so you depend on the hotel for everything (trips, food and so on). That's why most of the prices are higher than in the town. Also in order to get there you need a boat transport from Maricaban ( they say you only need to pay for it one way) so make sure to contact the hotel on time. We made the reservation quite spontaneously so we had to call like 30 times until someone answered...
They offer free SUP and Kayak. Regarding the food we would recommend the filipino specialities, which were delicious ( the pizza was very bad). The breakfast was also nice.

Had an amazing stay here from start to finish. Each and every staff person was so welcoming, kind and obliging.
Upon arrival and departure the admin staff do a song and dance on the pier. This was a little cheesey and made us uncomfortable. We felt sorry for the staff having to do this, it really wasn't necessary.
We stayed in a beach front cottage. It was very traditional, certainly not 5 star accom but we loved it anyway for it's authenticity. The bathroom was old but had the necessities and was all in working order. Towels could all use replacing as they were almost threadbare.
Breakfast was included in our room tariff. It was ample but nothing to rave about. Lunch and dinner were a la carte and quite expensive by Filipino prices. Happy hour on the pier in the evening was good value though and included a variety of cocktails.
The resort has two infinity pools (one is in front of the dive centre). They were both excellent. There is also a good snorkelling area in the bay at the front of the resort and snorkelling gear is complimentary.
The Dugong Dive Centre was very well run and we were very satisfied with our scuba diving activities, especially as we got to dive with a dugong, see a couple of reefs and my partner dived the Kyukuzan wreck and surrounding reef which he rated very highly.
We were sad to leave this resort and highly recommend it to divers and also non-divers.

Okay, I didn't know this resort would be mainly couples and honeymooners as I went with 2 friends. We weren't uncomfortable though and met lots of nice people from across the globe and 1 couple from the US. This resort can only be reached by boat, so it is very secluded. We stayed in bungalow #2. It was rustic, but beautiful and right on the beach. Everyone who worked in the resort was friendly and very accommodating. We ate most meals at the resort which was pretty good. We had happy hour at the pier bar every day which was from 4-7pm. They had half off certain drinks and food specials. It was very nice relaxing, enjoying a great drink and watching the sunset. You can snorkel right in front of the resort which was so cool! We snorkeled for 2 hours!! The best is right by the floating bungalows where they did massages. Speaking of massages....OMG! It was heaven!! Very affordable and different. When you lie face down, you look into a cut out in the floor, so you can view the water and fish swimming by. I loved it!! We did an island hopping tour and it was not an issue coming from this resort. When we got into Coron town and passed by all the hotels in that area, we were so glad and thankful we chose El Rio Y Mar. Coron Town is very dirty, dusty, full of young backpackers and the hotels look subpar. It's fine if you're on a budget. I get it, but us girls/mom/friends wanted to treat ourselves. That we did! One day we went on a guided hike to the top of a closeby mountain. The view was fantastic!! I highly recommend this resort and would definitely return.

We tried to arrange things before getting there, but in the end, we arranged things very easily when there. We were able to have a lovely couple and child join us one day and for the diving, we joined two men and one woman who were also diving. It worked out very well for us. I was nervous waiting, but all was well.

The beach is very narrow - it doesn’t have the blue colored water that we had imagined - we didn’t swim in it nor lounge around the area bec of the water conditions. Dark waters. Electricity was reliable ! On days that it poured buckets of rain, the resort still Had power.

If you go on el nido’s website they can answer all of your questions via e mail. They are supper helpful and will answer all of the questions you have regarding time it takes to get there as well as a availability. You should also consider downloading an app like noble app or WePhone or Skype where you can buy minutes and call other countries for very cheap.
