After our stay in Ambergris Caye we headed to Western Belize and we are thrilled to have chosen Mahogany Hall near San Ignacio. It was a unique and beautiful place with a back drop of the pretty Mopan river. Service was outstanding in every way.
Beautiful little boutique hotel set along the river. Staff do a an excellent job of maintaining property, from the gorgeous grounds to clean rooms and comfortable beds and linens. Would definitely stay here again if I return to the area.
Thanks to Jose, Amelia, and all the staff, for making our stay at this beautiful spot even more special! We spent 4 nights here, and had breakfast and three of our 4 dinners here, as well. The food was delicious and the service was always kind and friendly. Just sitting in the pool or on the deck, looking out over the Mopan River, was a delight. We were visited by both Toucans and Kinkajoo. What a lovely visit.
We were very well taken care of at Mahogany Hall. It is a small hotel, with maybe seven rooms, so careful attention is paid to every guest. I received several messages before arriving from the concierge in order to plan any excursions we might be interested in. We did indeed: a trip to Tikal planned and paid for before we even landed; so easy! We loved our breakfast and coffee made to order every morning. The other guests were very friendly and shared some stories of their own travels in the beautiful country of Belize. The food was delicious, the drinks well made and the beds and pillows were comfortable. We most definitely recommend this property and if we return to this area again, we will stay here.
We arrived mid-afternoon to be greeted by Jose who took us to the bar and while filling in the paperwork we enjoyed a welcome cocktail. The hotel sits on the Mopan river and all rooms have a 180 degree view. We opened the door to our room to find “Welcome to MH” in flower petals on the bed - what a lovely surprise. Similarly at dinner, Jose writes messages in petals on the tables. While dinner was one of two options, we were never disappointed. We could have taken a $10 taxi into St Ignacio, but we enjoyed the food so much - including seeing kinkajous in the trees at night, we could not get motivated to leave and night after night we saw the same guests so we were not alone. Marsha is the manager and runs the place with complete calm efficiency, including organizing our trips with Edwin’s Belize Adventures (see related review). We were thankful the MH survived COVID and while it is fair to say that some of the furniture could be updated, Jose, Marsha and the other staff were the stars.…
Absolutely LOVED staying at Mahogany Hall. It’s gorgeous architecture and spacious rooms made it my favorite hotel during my 2 week stay throughout Belize. The staff is incredibly accommodating and sweet. We travelled with two kids and they took great care of the whole family. Both breakfasts and dinners were delicious. It is located in Bullet Tree Falls just outside the hustle and bustle of San Ignacio. We had a rental car and we’re so happy to retreat to this magical hotel at the end of each day of adventure. While the river was too fast to swim in because it was rainy season when we came, the pool is beautiful and wonderfully refreshing. We woke up early to enjoy the sound of birds each morning. It was like a luxury jungle experience. I would definitely stay here again
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely boutique hotel. The back of the hotel opens to the beautiful Mopan River. We were able to wade/swim in the refreshing river. There is a small pool area which our daughters enjoyed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the food was good. This was a relaxing and scenic home base to come back to after day excursions in the area.
The property was beautiful and on the river as advertised. The staff was great. The rooms were beautiful. I choose our room because they advertised a hot tub. It was a jacuzzi tub! Big difference! The big negative for me was the stairs to the 2nd and third floor. In Belize the rise in the steps can be very high. This was close to 12 inches. Climbing stairs is a challange for me at that height, and we were on the 3rd floor. Please consider this when choosing this hotel. They do offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and the meals were very good. They are very accomodating! It was a quiet place.
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights, wish we could have stayed longer. Property is just as pictured. The pool is lovely but we also swam in the river which was refreshing. We had some meals there and they were all delicious. Overall a wonderful place!
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Mahogany Hall. The hotel is located on a beautiful river and is in a residential neighborhood ~10-15min from downtown San Ignacio. We stayed in the Colonial Suite which had a very old school colonial vibe and overlooked the river and created a very peaceful feeling. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a laid back accommodation in San Ignacio with nice lounge areas. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone looking for a more conventional hotel/resort experience (large property, lots of staff, etc.). Pros: - Cool looking property - Only a short drive to downtown San Ignacio - Beautiful river right behind the property which sounds amazing - Nice lounge areas (chairs by the river, pool overlooking the river, hammocks, etc) - Good food Cons: - No screens on the doors/windows, which made me nervous about leaving them open at night - Poor wifi signal in the rooms. You need to go to the bar area - Location in a residential neighborhood feels a bit random - No safe in the room if you’re someone looking for that peace of mind Know Before You Go: - This property doesn’t really feel like a traditional hotel. For example, there is no lobby. We checked in at the bar. There also didn’t appear to be much staff, if any, late at night if you were to need something or if you’re someone who is worried about security. The term ‘resort’ is probably misleading. This is a boutique hotel property on a small plot along a beautiful river. It’s not a huge property with all the amenities you typically think of when you hear ‘resort’ - Location: The property is in a residential neighborhood, not amongst other hotels, restaurants, etc. If this bothers you, then I wouldn’t stay here. - The River: The riverfront is a public area (as are beaches in Belize) and also a popular spot for locals on weekends so you can expect a lot of mini cookouts going on outside the hotel (tables, grills, music, etc.). I enjoyed the fun atmosphere and thought it was a cool way to interact with the locals. For some, I could see the noise and activity on Sat/Sun being annoying. If you’re looking for a private secluded property with only guests around the premises then you won’t like this hotel on weekends.…
