This is a long overdue review and appreciation to the staff of Rivermount Hotel and Resort and its Resident Manager Charlie P. Ramos. My family and I stayed and truly enjoyed the unparalleled hospitality of its staff in early part of December 2016.

I chose this hotel as the venue for my family's reunion after searching online from NYC. Relying on website photos and other guests' reviews is not always the best way to make decisions, so I sent my younger sister and her family who live locally to check out the place. The photos they took and their feedback made me decide this would be the venue for my siblings and I to spend time with our mom who just had a mild stroke. This decision made all the difference in creating the great memories we will always remember with our mom!

For a hotel still in its first year of operation, the staff were particularly attentive and anticipatory of our needs. Since we checked in on different dates, the Front Desk staff Cherielyne and Jessa noted our desire to be in close proximity with our family when it was possible. Asking for an extended check out as our flights were later in the evening was not a problem at all with the Resident Manager Charlie, who was so accommodating during our entire stay.

Since the size of our respective (sibling) families were varied, we also had differing room types, and each attested to the cleanliness and availability of all linens when requested , i.e., extra towels and spare bed mattress. The rooms were cleaned and set everyday and fresh towels provided. However, the one big drawback in the guest rooms is the poor connectivity to the wifi. We noticed on the hallway that all they had on each floor were the size of pocket routers! As I was working from my laptop, I had to be in the lobby or the restaurant to access a very weak wifi reception. Do not expect any high tech connectivity when you stay here. Better still, just come here and relax sans electronics!

The location of the hotel is picturesque. My room had the river and mountain views as well as the infinity pool view which were quite relaxing when I was alone in my veranda and just watching the sunset.

The room attendants I got to know during our stay were all extra friendly and helpful. Levy, Rose Anne, Eden and Vincent were with ready smile when you meet them on the hallway and would ask if we needed anything.

Ameninities one would expect in a hotel in a remote location are still lacking here. Aside from the beautifully set infinity pool , the restaurant and the lobby bar, there are no other amenity that would keep one busy and occupied aside from reading your book and spending time with the people you are with (which are both great). When we ask for a function room to accommodate family activities, we were shown a karaoke bar that has not yet been opened yet. It was a great room , but it could only be accessed through a long stairway and no handicapped access. The mountain view from the bar, however was priceless!

A spa and massage service would be nice additions to this tranquil location. Even just a massage service in the cabanas near the river would be great.

The restaurant, although there was only one in the hotel, had great service and Ilocano food. The breakfast included in our room rate made it easy for everyone each morning as we all gathered in the restaurant to plan our day. The restaurant servers Jessa and Sira made each meal and our family's gathering extra special with their attentiveness. Gleen, Charlotte, Arvin, BJ, R-jay and Carmelo were all very polite and attentive as well. The wide patio outside the restaurant became our family gathering and venue for our activities, which Resident Manager Charlie was kind enough to let us use.

The courteous and friendly staff made our stay memorable.

However, I also feel compelled to mention that as this is a very young staff and probably for most of them, this is their first hospitality industry experience, minor attention to details need to be addressed for them to succeed further as 'the destination in Ilocos Norte'. They need to be 'more' anticipatory of each guest's needs. As the location is a little far from any transportation hub, there should be a shuttle service to town / city of Laoag in the morning and afternoon. Towels need to be provided in the pool area with a drop box for wet towels. Turn down service in the rooms would be nice as well. Keeping conversations in public areas to themselves and not within hearing of the guests.

Overall, our stay was fantastic and would gladly go back again!

Got off to a bad start when the transport the hotel agreed to provide to collect us at Laoag Airport failed to turn up. My secretary called the hotel (albeit 30 minutes after we had arrived) and was told it was on its way, so please wait. We waited another 40 minutes and still no hotel transport – the moral of the tale – don’t entrust this hotel to arrange your transport from the airport. Found our own transportation after we had been waiting an hour or so and proceeded to the hotel. This looked a very nice hotel located some 11 kms from Sarrat itself. I believe the hotel was opened last year. It is situated on the banks of the Padsan River. The hotel is picturesque with nice outdoor seating overlooking the river. The rooms are clean and specious, but maybe a bit sparse with insufficient furniture. There was a very nice balcony on my room, but only one chair inside the room, and none on the balcony. No table on the balcony either. The rooms were of a decent size, and were well serviced daily. Rooms were clean. I thought the room had a mini-bar, but alas it had nothing inside, which I guess makes it a fridge. The river is peaceful and relaxing – it was interesting to watch the wildlife, and people working and children playing in the river. In the dry season, crops are grown on dry patches in the river which obviously flood over when the rain comes. This led me to respect the Filipino ingenuity at utilising these areas. There is of course fishing going on also.

Food was average in the restaurant, which was incidentally the best place to receive wifi. There is no wifi in the rooms. Breakfast did offer a good selection – Filipino or Western, but there was no buffet as reported in an earlier TA report.

The bar is a nice place to sit, or the hotels nipper huts down at the riverside. The call mechanism doesn’t work however, and you have to go up the steps each time to the bar for service. One evening we returned to the hotel at 10.05 pm, and went to the bar looking for a drink as it had been a hot day. Despite the bar staff still being at the bar they insisted that they stop serving at 10pm. So, that lead me to believe that the hotel maybe is not so service orientated or friendly. The bar staff lack the positive attitude of ‘can do’ that seems to be a regular feature of Filipino hospitality.

There is no safe deposit box in the rooms which is a must in the Philippines.

The hotel has an excellent infinity pool overlooking the river, complete with its own waterfall. That is very nice to relax and watch the river from.

The location being so far away has been criticised by some in TA, but I found that a positive aspect, enhancing the tranquillity of the location. We hired a car with a driver (the same one we found at the airport) for PHP 3000 per day – the car was ‘adequate’ and the driver had good knowledge of the area, and took us to the points of interest. The area of Sarrat and Laoag is truly spectacular, and I’m sure the drivers local expertise (and our reading points of interest on TA) added to our maximising our time there.

All in all it was an excellent stay and I enjoyed my time at the hotel. That said it looks as though it may have been put together and the money has run out – short of furniture and no wifi in rooms etc. Staff attitude may need to improve – more focus on ‘can do’, but I would stay here again – bring some beer to, so I can stock my own mini bar. Nice décor in public areas. Lift in working order. Good parking in the front of the hotel. There are no shops for miles so if you want snacks etc, bring with you when you go out for the day. Enjoy.

Stayed here for 2 nights in early December 2015, we requested a room with river view and was not disappointed, stunning view of the Hills and river, particularly at sunrise. Has an infinity pool but we never used it, only two sun-loungers were visible during our stay. the Hotel bar closes at 10 pm unless there is a function on-going, secondly they did not serve tea [any kind], during my stay so I brought my own tea down at meal-times and the provided hot water. They only served Japanese bottled beer whilst I was there, no local beers etc. No wi-fi in the rooms, only in lobby. Breakfast had six choices of which only 2 were available during my stay [bread/jam]. I am afraid this resort does not live up to its hype, its also in the middle of nowhere so a car is more or less essential. All in all a disappointing stay, and feel I would not return here, until things improve.

This is by far one of the worst hotels/resorts I've stayed in, in terms of service. The hotel itself is nice and modern. Our room was spacious with a good view of the river. But the hotel staff seems to be running around like headless chickens. There were enough staffs around to attend to guests, but it was obvious that they were not trained well to run a hotel. I asked for the manager and they could not produce one. As to our troubles, where do I start? First, there were no chairs in our room, even though there asa big desk. then the first one they offered was a plastic monobloc chair. Second, we pre-ordered our dinner by 30mins and still ended up waiting for another 30mins for our food to arrive. And that's after I already voiced my displeasure to the restaurant lady staff who took my pre-order. I can hear another big group beside us also complaining. Third, our kids room had no hand towels. After following up several times, front desk finally admitted they run out of towels and the next delivery from their laundromat was afternoon of the next day. This was useless because we were only staying for a night. Fourth, the 'buffet' breakfast was actually a 'rationed' breakfast, no second servings as two staffs behind the buffet table made sure about that. Many guests were complaining. And there was just rice and two viands. No bread, cereals, etc. And forgot to mention that they never gave us any breakfast stubs upon check in. I could easily walk in, claim to be a guest, and get breakfast. And lastly, water was very weak in the bathroom early in the morning. It normalized just in time before I decided to take a shower. The hotel is around 11kms from Laoag City proper with no alternate places to eat. So unless you have things to do in Sarrat or succeeding towns, your better off finding a place in the city proper. The only reason I didn't give them a one-star rating was because I heard that it was a relatively new hotel. Hope they improve soon, for their sake.

Stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night for a family wedding in a nearby town. Our reservation included breakfast which was your pick of an breakfast entree from the menu. I recommend the eggs, longanisa and garlic rice. The room was spacious and clean. However, the room is furnished fairly sparsely...maybe going for the minimalist decor...No artwork on the walls, no bedspread and only white and dark brown colors. The pool was perfect to cool off during the day.

The service was just ok. They seem to be overstaffed yet I found myself always having to ask for service, for refill on water, for the check, etc. I feel the staff needs some training on anticipating guests' needs.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We used TripAdvisor to get the best deal and it was worth the value. We would stay here again.

Rivermount Hotel is situated in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. For those who want a serene and tranquil environment for a few days, you will surely enjoy your stay here. Great rooms, ambiance and hotel facilities. The hotel staff were polite and greeted us with smiles as we arrived. We (group of 11) stayed at SPA 1, the dormitory room type of the hotel. We appreciated the living room set-up at the Villa where we got the chance to bond with friends and companions in addition to the night swimming we had. Each guest was provided with towels, complete toiletries, and a good breakfast. The Villa has 3 SPA rooms. Our group were fortunate that only SPA 1 was occupied. Otherwise, the lavatory would not be sufficient to cater more than 10 guests especially if all will use the same simultaneously.
This is recommended for those with service vehicle considering the location is in outskirts of the city.
Overall, we had a very good hotel experience.

Tucked away in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte along Josefa Llanes-Escoda National Highway(Ilocos-Apayao Road), a four-star Hotel, Rivermount Hotel and Resort offers stunning view of Padsan River and Sarrat Bridge while enjoying its infinity pool.

It offers wide array of hotel rooms for budget travellers as well as to business travellers. Our group stayed in a dorm-type room (good for 12 persons). The dorm type room has a mini living area allowing us to bond and enjoy chatting till we drop after a whole day travel around Ilocos. The check-in was smooth and hassle free.

We really enjoyed swimming at the infinity pool and the cool breeze at night.

There are cabanas where guests can order snacks while appreciating nature at its best.

The Tapsilog included in the Room Package is a must-try!

Highly recommended!

We stayed there for 2 nights in two different rooms, the Mountain View w/ 2 beds then we asked to be transferred (for a cost)on our 2nd night to the River View w/ a queen-sized bed. The rooms were clean though there were ants and that the toilet leaked. Also, the heater didn’t work on the 2nd room. The facility comes w/ an infinity pool which didn’t really matter to us.

The hotel is about 7 km from Laoag and the town of Sarrat is on the at the other side of the river. Once you’re there, the only food option is their restaurant. Fortunately we had a car so getting around wasn’t much of a hassle.

Cozy clean nice hotel with vast wetland view.

Room can accommodate 3'4 pax just request mattress.

The downside is that our 4 rooms have ants . You cannot leave food even if its packed. Ants will come . Rooms have balcony, ref, cable tv. Beds are comfy soft.

Pool is nice. Lobby is spacious and "airy ".
Restaurant food is affordable. Staffs are friendly.
Wifi is only in the lobby .There is no coffee maker or kettle in the room. Its useless to have one since the water thst you will boil is chlorined.
