We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience and feel the Cala Luna vibes!

Wonderful staff, delicious food & drinks, beautiful setting! The marga-rica (spicy margarita) is 5 star! The hotel is quiet and tidy. A rocky beach is a short walk (1 minute) away, and a sandy surfing beach is 10 minutes away by foot. Just follow the beach to the north.

Cala Luna is so much more than a boutique hotel in Tamarindo. Every staff member made us feel like family and catered to our needs. Jose at the front desk, Daniel in the bar, Aliche and Brian in the dining room and the fun guys running the little beach bar stand (Sorry, forgot your names!) The chefs create beautiful and delicious meals using nearly all organic foods from their own organic farm. Perfect for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. The amazing breakfast buffet and exotic cocktails on the beach at sunset every evening are included with the room. As are the daily movement classes; yoga & functional workout. We enjoyed these nearly everyday. Situated a short walk from Playa Langosta, Cala Luna allowed us to we spend most of our time walking the beaches, swimming in the waves and we even took a surfing lesson. The hotel outdoor eating spaces were quiet and relaxing. Everything was Peaceful, private and meditative. Having the amenities of the town of Tamarindo nearby added to our enjoyment. If you’re planning a trip to these beautiful beaches of Tamarindo don’t miss a one-of-a-kind experience of a sound yoga meditation session with Andrea at Cala Luna. She gently and expertly guided my boyfriend and I through a series of stretches and poses that ended in a magical sound bath. The wooden floors reverberated as we lay in savasana, enveloped in the sound of singing bowls, flutes, gongs and more. I felt like the sound waves opened the cells in my body to healing and peace. Throughout we felt the gentle breezes, heard the birds and howler monkeys and took in all the scents of the tropical plants surrounding us. Everything else we experienced in Tamarindo was made better by this experience! And the Cala Luna was the perfect setting. We miss you already, Cala Luna!

This boutique hotel was built in the jungle, 100 feet from the beach. The grounds have monkeys, cats, iguanas and a variety of birds living freely right outside your villa. The food was delicious, better than expected and I found the cocktail menu reasonably priced. Villas were immaculate. Some key points if you are thinking of staying….location is 1 mile from downtown but having $5 taxis was convenient and affordable. The beach is great for sunset watching but not to play in as it’s rocky with a riptide. The three bedroom villa has a pool with no 3 feet end which means corner to corner is 6 foot. Not ideal for wading and trying to have a cocktail. Overall I would recommend and stay again.

Our hotel room was infested with bugs - ants, mosquitos, and bees. They were crawling on the walls, swarming in the bathroom, and in the bed. We were mortified. When we complained, the front desk receptionist Jose simply said “well, all that matters is that we have a spare room for you.” He never apologized or tried to make us feel comfortable, and instead placated our feelings and made us feel bad for complaining in the first place. And upon arrival, we were surprised to find additional hidden charges on our final tab - hidden restaurant fees, and charges from other peoples services. I paid the final bill and left for the airport. When I checked my credit card a few hours later, I discovered that the hotel had charged an additional $70 on my credit card without my authorization. How is that legal? I sent 2 emails and multiples phones call, but no one picked up. How convenient. I would never stay in this hotel again.

Dear Domtoney Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, this helps us to gets better everyday. Our apologies that we did not offer an apology and take action inmediately just changing your room without listen your feelings, that was not our intention. Before the raining season start part of the natural process is that a lot insects start coming out and that is why we have a lot insects since we surronded by nature, we also have a fumigation program to reduce this impact. We sent you an email explaning why we have to charge $70 usd more to your account but we never received a response back. We are happy to send you another email explaining the reason why you have this charge in your account. We hope we can have the opportunity to have you back. Pura vida !

The food is elite. We had the best coconut lemongrass fish dinner ever and the complimentary breakfast buffet is a must! We had some of the sweetest and freshest pineapple and papaya ever. Such a relaxing ambience and the night swimming in the heated pool open 24 hrs was definitely a highlight. We arrived at night when there were no more bell boys but Carol at the front desk helped us personally with our luggage. The wait staff was also so friendly and helpful. There’s so much wildlife around so you must be okay with waking up to the sound of monkeys and birds chirping, and bugs. they didn’t bother us though! Would recommend 10/10.

Cala Luna is great boutique hotel in Tamarindo. We were welcomed with a friendly greeting after a long day of traveling by Silvia at the front desk and Charlie who seems to do many jobs at the hotel. Nice cool towels to freshen up with and fresh fruit popsicles (yum). Hugo our driver that picked us up at the airport also made us feel the Pura Vida spirit instantly. The food and cocktails were outstanding. it is a short 15 minute walk into the bustling town of Tamarindo but you are secluded away from the noise at Cala Luna. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the beach in front of the hotel. It really is much to rocky to swim so we spent most of our time at the pool. Great staff!

We enjoyed a three day stay at the Cala Luna and it was excellent. Traveling with my wife and three adult daughters, we had a variety of tastes and interests to pursue and everyone left with a smile on their face. From our initial welcome to our final departure, everyone with whom we interacted at the Cala Luna was courteous, capable, and kind, with a sincere friendliness and helpfulness that made us feel right at home. The pool area was great and the secluded beach was just a minute's walk down the path. My wife loved the relaxing massage therapy session and we all enjoyed a number of expeditions from the property ranging from first-time surfing lessons (highly recommended to the excellent team of Victor and Fofo of the Tamarindo Surf Academy) to a horseback ride along the beach, to a snorkeling trip. As wonderful a time that we had with the property and the people at the Cala Luna, I have to point out the food. I've been fortunate enough to extensively travel around the world for business and pleasure and I have never had food better than what we enjoyed from the kitchen at Cala Luna. From the quality of the ingredients, to the very interesting choices in seasoning and flavors, and to the artful presentation of the different dishes, the food at the Cala Luna was extraordinary. It's a creative kitchen, run by chefs and crew that clearly have an authentic interest in the dishes that they have developed. The five different palates in our group were all very happy with every choice at every meal, from appetizers to the entrees to the desserts. Would I recommend this property to my friends and family? Would I like to return? Absolutely yes, on both counts!

A beautiful hotel with lots of amenities but needs some updating. The casitas could use some refreshing and ants and spiders in the bathrooms. The grounds were lush but gardening not really kept up. The pool was nice but not spectacular. I was just underwhelmed. I would also advise going to another beach like CoCo Beach because Tamarindo is soooo crowded and touristy. We rented a golf cart to take us to town because the walk was a long ways in the heat. The best thing we did was call Ready Eddie Tours on Facebook. He picked up our family of 6 and took us 30 min away to go ATV riding, then to a local restaurant and then to Coco beach and a chocolate factory. We saw monkeys and visited with locals, and ate fruit from a fruit stand. This was by far the best day away from all the craziness of the city. We did eat dinner one night at the hotel and it was very good - around $200 for a family of 6. Breakfast was a beautiful buffet. Bring lots of $1, $5, $10 because everyone wants a tip. They accept US dollars.

We stayed at Cala Luna for four nights. The food is exceptional and they do an excellent job noting all allergens (gluten was my concern). The rooms are great, although the shower had no grab bar which is notable as the floor in the shower is sloped and tiled. We were fine but it differs from may showers in this regard. We got the signature massage, which sounds a little woo wooo from the description but which was not too much different from those you get at other high end resorts. Definitely worth the price. The roads near the resort are congested, making any travel to other activities slow, but the drivers we had were on time, with great air conditioned cars, so it was slow, but not unpleasant. The beach access is easy, but this is a walking-on beach rather than a swimming beach (for most people). The staff are all excellent and very helpful.

My family had an amazing experience at Cala Luna! The staff were so sweet helping us before and during our stay. The food was truly memorable between the gnocchi and flan from room service, to the unforgettable breakfast buffet that had cool surprises every morning. The Taxi drivers were the best! Kept us laughing and educated the entire way. They provided an experience my family will cherish for a lifetime. Pura Vida!
