Family visit end of October for a week - had an absolutely fantastic time. Transfers from Dubai very straightforward and no drama crossing the border. The drive over the mountains is very dramatic! The resort itself is pristine, public areas are very well maintained. Very family friendly, most people were there with kids from what we saw.
We had a pool villa, I think just the standard room, but it's very spacious with a large outdoor space and lovely pool. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a beachfront villa but I really didn't think it was worth it. The room itself was spotless and well looked after, most morning it was tidied before we were even back from breakfast. I've seen some criticism that the rooms are a bit dated and it's true that some minor things like electrical fittings might be in need of updating (there are no USB ports for example) but I really think that's secondary. The room (indeed the whole resort) is meant to have a rustic feel - this isn't Dubai.
Service was consistently excellent. People are always offering to help or asking if you need anything. Sanjana our guest experience manager was super helpful and always available to answer queries and make bookings etc. Great kids club which my son loved - you can just come and go whenever, no need to book or anything like that.
The food is really good, especially breakfast, where there is a great choice. As many people have mentioned here, the food and drink (especially alcohol) is very expensive, so I think half board is a must. Also, annoyingly they add tax and service on to everything at the end, so you end up paying 22% more than the prices shown. Some of the 'event' dinners on the beach carry hefty surcharges even if you're on half board, and while the food and choice is great, it can be eye-watering. My advice is to go mentally prepared for a chunky bill at the end and factor it in to your budget.
Final tip - do the sustainability tour if you're interested to see 'behind the scenes' of a place like this - how it's run etc. We thought it was fascinating.

Response from Zighy Bay, Other at Six Senses Zighy Bay
Responded Nov 15, 2024
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review of your recent family stay with us at Six Senses Zighy Bay. It’s heartening to know that your experience was fantastic and that you enjoyed many aspects of our resort, from the dramatic mountain drive to our pristine surroundings and spacious pool villas. I’m delighted that our service left a lasting impression, particularly through Sanjana’s dedication and the attentiveness of our hosts. Your kind words about the kids’ club and its flexible approach are truly appreciated, and I’m thrilled your son enjoyed his time there. I appreciate your comments regarding the rustic charm of the resort and how it aligns with the unique ambiance we aim to provide—a natural, laid-back luxury distinct from the cityscape of Dubai. That said, I’ve noted your observations on room fittings and the lack of USB ports. We value such feedback as it helps us balance preserving the resort’s character with addressing modern guest expectations, and I will share this with our team. Your remarks about our food and beverage offerings are also noted. While we strive to provide memorable culinary experiences, I understand that pricing, particularly with taxes and surcharges, can be a consideration. Transparency is important, and I’ll review how we can better communicate this aspect to help guests plan ahead. It’s wonderful that you took the time to join the sustainability tour! We’re passionate about sharing the behind-the-scenes efforts that underpin our commitment to sustainability, and it’s fantastic to hear you found it fascinating. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and for spending your family getaway with us. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to welcome you back for more memorable moments in the future. Warm regards, Diletta Guarino General Manager

What peace and ultimate luxury. 11 Days and exactly as it was meant to be. Beautiful spacious villa with your own GEM/butler. The beach looks like the Maldives, the sand is so soft and not crowded. The pool water and sea water is warm. In addition, everything is exceptionally clean, wonderful. Employees very correct and helpful without becoming 'stiff'. The food is very good and nice wines. Keep in mind that there is really nothing else and you are completely dependent on the resort. As mentioned, the food and drinks are fantastic, but you really pay for that. Keep that in mind. In general it is over by 9:30/10:00 PM. Everyone goes back to the house early and therefore wakes up early in the morning. You don't go here to hang out at the bar and relax. There is also no activity in the evening. Only the outdoor cinema. By the way, the outdoor bar is very beautiful. In terms of activities it is exactly as described. Everything radiates a certain tranquility. And ladies, leave your heels at home. Here 'almost' everything is barefoot. (with the exception of the restaurant in the morning, but there people sometimes also walk barefoot, and in the evening in the restaurant they wear shoes) Beach BBQ is barefoot, just like all the 'streets' in the park are full of soft sand . Please also note that a significant fee will be added to all prizes. This is also stated everywhere. It would be better to increase room rates and adjust prices slightly in other areas. That was like positive criticism ;-)

The standout features of this resort are its unique location, amazing staff and the paragliding experience. All five star. What is not so good is the fact that, the dining does not live up to the hype or the price, although it is still very good. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choices and included several home made cheeses and preserves etc.One of the best I have had. Lunches were okay, fresh and tasty. Evening dinner could be taken at a choice of three restaurants which varied each night. We didn’t eat at the Sense on the Edge up the mountain but the other restaurants at the resort were pleasant but not exceptional (they are very expensive, perhaps justified by the remote location of the hotel). We thought “ Summer House” was the best of the ones we tried. Service at all of them was friendly and attentive without being fussy. In fact all the staff from the maintenance to the reception team were outstanding (it seems wrong to name individuals but Saif , one of the resort’s drivers, really shone, as did Barry, who led the stargazing experience). Villas and pools were very private, well maintained but could do with a few more lights inside. Experiences were usually very expensive, eg a local hiking trip from the hotel up the nearby hills was over £100. The best value one was the stargazing at £25 each, we saw Saturn and Jupiter through the hotel’s own powerful telescope. Paragliding was amazing, especially if you haven’t done it before. Expensive but well worth it due to the unique location. All the prices the hotel quote are subject to several taxes which bumps up the price. It’s the location that sells this place, it’s simply stunning. Do go.

There is no doubt, that the location of Zighy Bay is simply amazing, the staff are delightful, helpful, and a real credit to the resort, and the beach is wonderful, and kept beautifully clean. Those are the pros. Unfortunately, the cons are, that since this resort opened in 2008, it would seem that no, or very little, refurbishments have been carried out, consequently, it is looking very, very tired and in dire need of some serious investment. The price of the, mainly, average, food is simple eye wateringly expensive. Such as our Japanese meal at the top of the mountain for 2 cost the equivalent of £500, and that was without any alcohol!!! It was ok, but our local Japanese in our small town serves better food at a fraction of the price. The rooms are very tired, with the original blinds looking moth eaten and are broken so that they cannot be opened or closed properly. The bathroom and bedroom furniture is old fashioned and very bulky with drawers that are difficult to open and, basically, all well past their sale by date, and the whole villa is tired, tired, tired. The bedroom floor, was not washed once during our stay, so goodness only knows when it was last washed with a mop and bucket. In the public areas the furniture is also bulky and the chairs are difficult to manoeuvre, I could go on and on. This hotel is in no way a 4 or, even, a 5 star, it's more like a low 3 star at best. Put it this way, it is cheaper to stay and eat at Claridge's Hotel in London or The Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados (both of which we have been lucky enough to stay at recently) for the night than it is to stay at Zinghy Bay. The Management needs to spend some serious money and as soon as possible, otherwise, guests are going to realise that they are being ripped off paying by paying for 5 star quality but only getting a 3 star. Finally, apart from there being some soft drinks and a few nibbles in the room when we arrived, thereafter, there was no fruit or anything complimentary put in the room each day. We even had to pay for a second bottle of water during dinner the first, thank goodness, was included in the extortionate price of each meal. Think very carefully before booking a holiday at ZB, it really isn't worth it.

Dear MrsBTow, Firstly, I would like to thank you for your comments on the Resort in general and especially on the Team, I will make sure to pass on your feedback, they will be certainly delighted! Nevertheless, I am saddened to read all the rest, it is disappointing to hear that our beloved property fell short in certain expectations, and before getting into details and addressing your observations, I just wished you would have shared this while with us here, in order to give us the opportunity to better explain the concept of the Resort, including the pricing, and eventually turn your stay into a successful story, were all your set intentions would have been fulfilled. As a knowledgeable traveller, you are conscious that the value of an experience of any kind is made by many factors, the raw material, the level of expertise of the person transforming and giving value to the same, the environment and atmosphere of the location, the days/months/years that took to build the place and many more small and big details. Sense on the Edge is a Restaurant carved in the mountain, with unparalleled views of the bay and the unlimited ocean, where only the top of the premium food ingredients are used by a team of Chefs that is specific only to that place, so that the experience you go through during the dinner is truly unique, like no other. The Restaurant’s cuisine is not Japanese but Pan Asian, and I am sure the local Japanese place in your hometown will not carry history and details I just explained, though I am certain the taste of the food will be nice and reassuring. In a Resort like ours, where you have all the natural elements working “against” you (wind, sea, sand) our team of Hosts works relentlessly to always keep it up to the level it should be, and we take a lot of pride in that. Once a year at a minimum, every villa is completely renovated, from every point of view, and before every guest arrives both the Housekeeping and the Engineering team are checking that all properly works, looks and smells good, spotless clean (with the floor mopped with the best and most sustainable products that the market can offer). That does not mean that mistakes or malfunctioning cannot happen, but we work continuously to minimize this possibility and bring it to an unfortunate chance. You called the furniture “bulky” and not user friendly, I would say that is made like in ancient times, where quality and heaviness of real and thick whole wood were favoured over other purposes. In a nutshell, Zighy Bay is meant to give you the feeling of being lost in an old Omani Tribe village, and if today you decide to trek over the mountains, that is the type of the remains of houses and furniture you would find, obviously brought to the standards and comforts of what a ultra-luxury resort should carry. The Sandy Lane or Claridge’s, unique – great - famous in their own special ways, were not built or even conceived with our owner’s same values in mind, not worst or not less, just different, because each one of us is unlike any other human beings, in the same way we are unlike any other Resort in the Middle East. We are true to the culture of the place that is hosting us and that we are proud to represent, our local hosts feel at home here, like if they were in their childhood villages, and that is the best comment we could receive because that is exactly the emotion we aim our guests would have, a sense of place and authenticity that is so rare to find. When you are in Six Senses Zighy Bay, you are in a place out of time and space, where you feel special and in total awe of the nature and the culture we are the fortunate guardians of. I am truly sorry that all that I described did not touched you while here with us, and I will be happy to talk more about it at any time convenient to you. In the meantime, I would like to thank you again for your valued comments and most of all, for giving us the opportunity to tell a little piece of a precious story that belongs to Zighy Bay and to all that visits us. With kind regards, Diletta Guarino General Manager

The location was beautiful—serene and calm by the water. However, the service, food, and hospitality were shockingly poor. It’s disappointing to see a renowned holiday destination so badly managed, with guests being treated so poorly.
We had booked the evening for a private Shua Shak experience to celebrate a special occasion, but it turned into a disaster. There was only one server, the food was cold, and the seating was uncomfortable. The lamb, which was tasteless and extremely overpriced (Dhs 5,500+ equivalent for a lamb shoulder), wasn’t even enough for everyone to eat. To make matters worse, the staff had a constant need to clean the table.
The staff seemed overly focused on upselling and had a very commercially transactional approach with no effort to create a welcoming or memorable experience and stay. Throughout our stay, the staff never smiled, nor did they make us feel comfortable or relaxed. They came across as cold, inhospitable, and completely uninformed about the resort’s basic amenities and services. To mention a few for instance, it took over an hour to deliver coffee to the room, which arrived cold, and another hour to send a can of soda.
After providing honest feedback of our disappointed of the first night we decided to just eat at the Bar. Mohan part of the bar team who heard our disappointment tried to make that evening better and more cared for.
Overall, the service was shockingly poor and the staff lacked the warmth and hospitality of a luxury hotel chain. This experience left an undesirable and financially unethical impression. Unfortunately, we couldn’t wait to leave.

Before we went here we were told by a number of colleagues and friends how amazing it was so we had an expectation and we can honestly say that it was everything it was cracked up to be. I thought the barefoot luxe vibe might be a little pretentious but it wasn't at all. You easily slip into a very relaxing state; I'd had a very stressful month beforehand because of family illness and work and within hours of arriving at zighy bay, I felt I was beginning to unwind.
Occupancy was low when we went and we were upgraded to a front row villa which was awesome. We loved the outdoor shower and Waking up each day to the sound of the waves right outside our room was incredible and we felt very fortunate. It's very chilled out and we had Mubarak, our GEM or guest experience manager, to answer questions, send menus, book activities etc as needed. We're not usually as spoilt as this on holiday but this was a special break. The staff are all friendly and helpful and really made us feel they are proud of the service they are providing whether it be an activities lead or a restaurant staff member. We thank each and every one of them. The little touches are plentiful and make a difference.
We both went paragliding and my husband also went microlighting which he loved. He also did a great snorkel / boat trip and we both did yoga, pilates, boxing (with a sparky and energetic Nandini) and had memorable spa treatments. We used the bikes provided to get around but it's not that easy always to cycle on the sand and they do skid a bit.
The food is fantastic and one evening we watched Casablanca on the beach while being fed which was something we won't forget for a long time. We also had a wonderful dinner at Sense on the Edge where we had a five course Japanese/fusion tasting menu that rivals the best. Eating was fairly early - this is not a place for late nights and it seemed very quiet on all the restaurants by 10pm.
The mountain landscape with the resort nestled on a wide sandy and largely empty beach is spectacular and we watched the sunrise in the morning and the plentiful stars at night.
This place is expensive but for a blowout trip we felt it was worth it and I would love to go back.

Staying at the Six Senses resort was an unforgettable experience, one that is hard to put into words. Perhaps the best way to describe it would be with the sound "aaaaah!" My Mum and I went there for a ladies' retreat, and we can't imagine a better place to spend that time together. From the moment a driver brings you to the gates of Six Senses, you are greeted by the sound of a welcome gong.
It’s all a perfect ritual, a symphony of the senses. The doors open, and you can already feel that the entire staff will ensure that none of your senses goes neglected. It’s pure luxury, but not the kind you’re used to.
This luxury goes right to the roots of life itself. Everything was flawlessly orchestrated, light and effortless, with nothing ever being a problem. The most beautiful part was that we felt like we became part of this big, kind Omani family, even if just for a while. The food was breathtaking.
Our recommendation? Definitely take the Dhow Cruise! Even just for 2 hours!
Every corner of the resort was thoughtfully designed. The divine massages at the local spa. The lifeguard who accompanied us into the water so we wouldn't be too afraid of the waves.
Thank you so much for this indescribable sensory experience. We’re definitely coming back next year! Zuzana and Eva

Spent five nights at Zighy Bay. Overall, we were disappointed as it has been described to us as an exceptional resort. It might have been 20 years ago but it is not anymore.
Pluses
Of course the location. it is situated in one of the the most beautiful location we have ever seen for a resort. Between the mountains and the sea.
We had a beach Villa which is great because you can go swimming straight from you villa
The service is really good with a butler who is sending you messages every night by WhatsApp and is taking care of all your reservations for dinner or activities.
We had a good time on a tour boat with a very helpful hotel guide who assisted us in scuba diving and fishing.
Minuses The room while very comfortable and clean is somewhat old fashioned. Bathroom and toilets are very simple and as they were furnished when the resort was build. Not up to the standard of what a resort of this reputation (and price) does offer today.
Food is good but not extraordinary, specially at lunch where the offer is limited. Breakfast is nice but again not up to the standard when you compare for instance the breakfasts we had at both Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi or in Dubai.
Another major drawback is the price of any activity or restaurants. As guests have no other choice around, they have to have lunch or dinner at the resort. Prices are outrageous. For instance for a buffet dinner (yet very nice) we had to pay more than 600$ with just one bottle of wine. In fact, you get the impression that the purpose of the resort is to get as much money as possible from their guests. I do not mind paying when it is justified but in this case it was not
As an aside, check your final bill as in my case they double counted one dinner...
In summary definitely a place to visit for one or two nights for the location but certainly not up the modern standard of the recent resorts.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay. We deeply value our guests' experiences and use comments like yours to continuously improve. Firstly, we are truly delighted that you appreciated the unique beauty of our location, nestled between the dramatic mountains and the serene sea. Your kind words about the villa’s proximity to the beach, the attentive service from your butler, and your enjoyable tour boat experience are much appreciated. It’s always our goal to create meaningful moments for our guests, and I’m glad you felt this during your stay. On the other hand, I am truly sorry that aspects of your experience did not meet your expectations. We take your comments regarding the villa furnishings and overall design seriously, and I understand how important modern comforts are for a memorable stay. While the resort’s design reflects the traditional Omani style and sustainable ethos of Six Senses, we recognize the need to balance authenticity with modernity. I’m pleased to share that we are actively planning updates to enhance our facilities, ensuring they remain fresh and in line with contemporary luxury standards. Regarding the dining experience, I regret that the variety and pricing did not meet your expectations. We are constantly working to refine our offerings, and your feedback will be shared with our culinary team to enhance both the menu and value perception. As for your concerns about pricing and billing, we understand how vital it is to provide clarity and fairness in every aspect of our guests' stays. The risk of being disappointed as a returning guest is particularly pronounced in a hotel in the luxury segment with a promise of quality to meet the highest standards. We have had the pleasure of being guests at the Six Senses Zighy Bay half a dozen times in recent years. And each time we have left with the desire to return again soon. Even though we experienced unusual weather conditions for the region with rain and storms during our two-week stay in February 2024, our stay was once again fantastic. In addition to the unique location, the culinary delights and the individual villas, the people who give their best for the guests are a real delight. Throughout all the departments - wherever you are, every member of staff seems highly motivated and always greets guests with a genuine smile. What is remarkable is that a surprising number of the 400-plus employees have been working there for many years. For us, this is also an indication that the working atmosphere must be good. We also have high praise for the woman at the top: as General Manager, Diletta Guarino runs the Zighy Bay calmly and with great skill. Conclusion: we will be back!

Amazing place, great service and food. Staff was delightful. Excellent spa and gym.
However :
- They tend to overcharge everything: for example, 100 OMR per person for setting a private dinner, food excluded!
- They push you to consume as much as possible: meals with set menus at exorbitant prices, “experiences” of all kinds (some great, some not so much), and even merchandise they desposit in the room such as a goat toy at 11 OMR. And they check carefully your mini bar, which hotels of this category don’t do any more. Like the furniture, this is somewhat dated!
- Prices do not include VAT, tourist tax, service charge, totaling about 20%. This is borderline dishonest and leaves a bad feeling.
- One notable exception: scuba diving. Not only did we have a wonderful dive with Lili and Mathieu, who were very friendly and very serious, but prices were reasonable (in line with diving rates in other places) and included all taxes etc. A good example to follow for the other services of the resort!
- The sea in front of the hotel is very clean thanks to a floating barrier, but unfortunately, when you leave this area, signs of pollution are everywhere. The resort is not to blame, as this is due to external causes, but is is nonetheless regrettable. -

Response from Zighy Bay, Other at Six Senses Zighy Bay
Responded Dec 9, 2024
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of your recent stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay. It’s always a pleasure to hear our guests’ perspectives, and I’m grateful for both your praise and your constructive feedback. I’m delighted that you found our resort to be an amazing retreat and that you enjoyed the great service, delightful cuisine, and the rejuvenating experiences at our spa and gym. It’s especially wonderful to know that your scuba diving adventure with Lili and Mathieu was a highlight. They are true ambassadors of our commitment to providing meaningful and memorable experiences, and I will be sure to share your compliments with them—they’ll be thrilled to know they made your dive so enjoyable. I am, however, truly sorry that some aspects of your stay fell short of expectations. Your concerns about pricing transparency, set menus, and in-room merchandise are invaluable to us. Our goal is to offer experiences that feel enriching and thoughtful, never pressured, so I deeply regret that this wasn’t your impression. We will carefully review these areas to ensure they align with our ethos of providing genuine value and trust. Regarding taxes and additional charges, I completely understand how this can feel disappointing. Your feedback encourages us to reassess how we communicate these details to make them as clear and upfront as possible. I also share your concern about the environmental challenges beyond our floating barrier. While we work diligently to maintain our beachfront and contribute to regional conservation efforts, it’s disheartening to see the impact of external pollution. Please rest assured, we remain deeply committed to sustainability and continue to advocate for broader solutions to protect this beautiful environment. Thank you again for your candid and heartfelt review. Your insights are invaluable in helping us improve and refine the guest experience. I sincerely hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back for another visit, where we’ll strive to exceed your expectations in every way. If there’s anything we can assist with for a future stay, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. With warm regards, Diletta Guarino General Manager
