GV Hotel Baybay 550p
We have stayed at several of the GV Hotels and found they are exactly as advertised. Basic accommodation. No problem at at.
We arrived at the Baybay facility and they did not have our reservation.
The receptionist was out and the maintenance people, although helpful, were unable to find my on-line reservation. I turned on my computer, access their Wi-fi and got my e-mail up at the same time they finally found the reservation. Just as I shut down my computer the Receptionist showed up and wants to see my e-mail confirmation. W-fi only on 1st (lobby) and 2nd floor. They wanted an additional 200p to stay on the first floor. Good thing I can still walk up stairs.
Went to have shower, no water. I know about the main valve on the wall but no water. Told the desk, she told me the guys were out getting a part, they would be back in 15 min. I explained I had been traveling and wanted a shower. Back to the room, 2 minutes later the water comes on, It is so dirty you could not use it to shower or wash up with. I show the bucket to the receptionist and explain to her there is no way you could have a shower in this. Apparently the maintenance guys were cleaning the system.
To be fair, once the problems were sorted out. All was up to GV standards. And yes I would stay there again

One really has to have realistic expectations which should be based on what the establishment promises. On that, GV hotel delivered. We had a room with windows on the second floor so at least we had a view and although it was to the street-side, there wasn't much disturbance as Baybay isn't a noisy city, really. I like their pillows coz they're kind of soft yet firm, My only problem was, the aircon stopped functioning shortly after midnight and it was found that there was ice somewhere, so we had to do without aircon for the rest of the night. At least we had windows so I opened it to let air in so it didn't get too warm. They really have to do something about water to the 3rd and 4th floors because some clients complained about having no water up there.

I arrived as a solo traveler and asked for a bed in a dorm. there was meanwhile also an other girl checking in. I told them, as I'm asking for a bed in a dorm, I have no problem to share my room with this girl. but then they put me alone in another room, where I had to change the next day, again in a room byself, and again the day after to the room with the girl where I could have actually stayed on my first day. otherwise the staff is really friendly and helpful. they even did my laundry for some pesos. the rooms are basic but clean.

Had an excellent stay at this hotel with my wife while visiting family and friends from her home town.
It is a no frills roof over your head hotel with air conditioner in the room. Good location away from all the noise yet close enough for breakfast at Jolly Bee... ;)
No hot water shower- that was my only gripe. I prefer a hot a shower and it was cold in the morning...yes...it does get cold in the Philippines!
Staff were helpful.

The bed wasn't made: folded sheets were just laid on it. At least they had a regular American-style thin sheet here (I encountered multiple places in the Philippines with thick comforters but no sheet). There was no bottled water in the room, or glasses to drink from. There was a table and two chairs in the room. The AC wasn't able to cool the room as much as I'd like, but it got the humidity remarkably low (yes, I brought a thermometer on my trip). I put down an extra deposit to get a second key card to keep the power and AC on when I wasn't in the room. Variability in the water pressure significantly slowed down my shower. The water went out at night, but was quickly turned on again after I complained at the front desk. The toilet stopped working, and I had to take off the lid and fiddle with things to get it working again. The pillows were soft. They charged 50% of the nightly price to let me check out late. I wouldn't stay here again.
