Overall my 3 night stay was ok at the Oriental. The room I stayed in was quite cheap but very basic. Air conditioning was effective and bed was comfortable enough. It was however very noisy being right next to the street. The bathroom was very small and the pipe under the sink constantly leaked leaving the floor very wet. The room wasn't cleaned at all during my stay and I had to request fresh towels.

This is more of 2.5 circle place. Not quite 2 and definitely not 3. My take on this place is that If you *need* to be in Ormoc for a night and you are an experienced, budget traveler, then this place will do in a pinch for a night *maybe 2*. Most international travelers will not be comfortable here. I think this is a hotel more suited to national tourism than international tourism. In any case, when you come in on the ferry it is close - about a 5-10 minute motorized tricycle ride (like a "tuk tuk" in other countries) so don't agree to pay them a lot before you get in - I noticed on Leyte, like many places in the Philippines, the drivers ask more from tourists than filipinos. It is on one of the "main" streets in the center of the bustling, loud, downtown area. It is difficult to find, because it is really just a door without noticeable signage and some steps up from the street. In the pictures for the hotel, note the surrounding shops and signage, so that those landmarks along with the address will allow you to find it. Even after i was dropped off near the hotel (the driver didn't know the exact location, just the approximate area) I had to ask a few folks before I could pinpoint the actual door. Some additional information about the area: The people are of course nice, but Ormoc is a bit of a frontier town. Most people on the Island of Leyte have never been off Leyte. Not even to neighboring Cebu. It has an unfortunate location, in that they have suffered greatly from Typhoons, especially in the recent past. You will note the lack of even the most prolific of international fast food chains, which goes to the local economy and location. There are no large international hotel properties here. Entrepreneurship is the name of the game. With regard to the Oriental Pension Plaza, the staff/owners seem nice enough and helpful. They have put together something, most likely without a lot of formal hospitality training. While I am sure it will get better over time, currently it is simple, re-tasked structure, no lobby, noisy at night from facing the street, and a bit dark and of average cleanliness. On the amenities side: it *does* have hot water from an electric system in a basic bathroom, it also has a small TV and AC. Some rooms have WIFI reception, some do not. One thing to note regarding security: The room doors are of the light, hollow variety with the simple push button lock on the door knob and no "dead bolt" or secondary lock system, so be forewarned. You *will* also have to do a mosquito safari (hunt) in your room before bedtime though if you are to get any sleep at all. And lastly, It is a walk up, so you need to be able to do stairs. If you found this review helpful, the please click the helpful thumbs up button. Thank you!

This is very old pension house and still under renovation. The room is so stinky,it smell pee everywhere. Bathroom with black molds everywhere. The trash bin was not emptied from previous guest. The towel they gave was so old that it turns brown and very thin.

I fill up form with my contact number. Yet they did not bother to infrom me i left some stuff (electric toothbrush at 2nd floor room booked dec 7 )at there. I tried to find their contact via internet found few but not working. So what's the use of filling up so form and putting our contact numbers.

Of course do not expect something fancy for under $13.00 But this place is conveniently located to the pier, market and the few restaurants this town has.
Most of the time in the Philippines you have great TV reception and horrible Wi-Fi, Here it is the other way around. I never had Wi-Fi so good in this country. Another benefit for this price is that there is hot water. Bad thing, no toilet seat, what's the deal with that? But not uncommon in the country. The room is clean, reception and workers are very friendly. The front room is noisy during the day, but the city shuts down early and it will not keep you awake at night.

If this article is helpful to you, then please, by all means. Give me a thumbs up :)

This is a very old, run down place. No maintenance. Needs major facelift. Pillow cases, towels and linens are old and smells bad. There is a flat screen wall mounted TV but no channels, maybe for decoration purposes only. LOL. Shower heater not functioning, so no hot water when taking a bath. Upon entering the room, there were 4 drinking glasses available, with 2 still half filled with water, showing it was not cleaned after the previous guests left. The staffs were nice but needs training. Will not be coming back, as the title says, Just Once. Not recommended.

We have no choice since we have to stay at Ormoc City because of the typhoon. I booked at this hotel since someone told me that it is okay there. I was disappointed even i know that a room ranging 500 to 800 pesos don't have that much to offer, the room was not that clean, our other room has a foul odor, no tv remote and kept on changing room since no TV reception also. Maybe because of the typhoon but worst was from 2am until 8am there was no electricity and they don't have a maintenance team to make that generator work. Really sad life because of the typhoon. The staff was friendly but not trained and seems like the management don't care about the staffs, don't care about the hotel and don't care about their guests. I'm not hard to please, just kudos to the friendly staffs who saved the image of their workplace. I hope that I am wrong that the management has forsaken this property.

It's hard to be disappointed when you don't have expectations, bit Oriental succeeded at that. I guess it was because of the price that I had some expectations, in that it was at par with a much better place. Bathroom smelled, they didn't have linens and towel was given on the second day.Cleanliness wadn't a priority, as I requested a clean-up when we left in the morning but obviously nothing was done when we returned at night. The trash was still there. I kept asking for a rug as the floor would get wet and dirty when coming from the bath, but they didn't have one. The only positive thing I can say is that it's in a good location. Other than that, there is something seriously wrong when you turn away paying customers because you don't have linen available. Never again.

I booked for a really cheap room. I arrived late and i just needed to have a place to sleep for one night. The place is quiet and the staff corteous. I had a good rest but that's all. Manage your expectation.
