We absolutely loved the location of KGL, the room decoration, the staff and the food. We had a room with a shared bathroom, but there is a sink with cold water in the room. There are bathrooms enough, didn't need to wait a single time...More

We were there at the end of August. We had a driver / guide, but our impression was that it was not difficult driving . The road appeared to be well maintained. No ice, no snow. I don’t recall any scary drop-offs. The road was unsealed, and I think it took 2 1/2-3 hrs after we left the Richardson Highway. Some of the road follows the old railway line that was built to take copper ore from the mine to the smelter in Cordova.
At the pedestrian bridge, there was adequate flat parking space. You have to book the van from Kennicott to the bridge.
There is a luggage trolley on each side of the bridge. Some of our number wheeled their cases across the bridge, some of us used the trolley. We were assisted with our luggage at the
bridge, and again as we arrived at the lodge. There was little walking required.
It had rained all night before we drove to McCarthy, so the road was wet and slushy. This trip was in the van from the lodge.
