We got the Queen Bed in the main ground floor facing the garden and it's quiet. The room is clean although washroom is very small so it won't be ideal for large size individuals. The buffet breakfast was amazing and very filling. It has Filipino breakfast and Western breakfast. Location is very ideal for island hopping. We will come back here again.

~Location~

This hotel is so close to everything – the port and market, the town, restaurants & bars – everything is easily accessible.

~The Room & Establishment~

My room was on the top floor with only one other room and very comfortable. I had (almost) everything I needed.

Oddly there was a blanket but no top sheet and only a quilt which I ended up using when the aircon got a little chilly. Since I was leaving early and getting back late I never did get round to asking for a top sheet and simply used my sarong.

Hot water/pressure: Both good
Wifi: Good

~The Service~

The reception staff were friendly and helpful especially the evening receptionist.

You need to order your breakfast the night before. I had 2 breakfasts and both needed to be take away given the time I was leaving for tours and both times I had to wait some time for it to be made and ready rather than able to simply pick it up and go. That said, I had the pancakes which were lovely.

Communication: Good

All in all I thought it was good value for money.

I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to you.

The location of this small hotel is good - in the heart of Coron Town with everything around you. Tour Agencies, Travel Agencies, Restaurants, small bars, shops, etc... The hotel itself is nicely decorated and rooms are clean and comfortable. My main issue was with the staff at the hotel, especially reception. They were quite uninterested, standoffish and a little unapproachable. At times, even something of a bad attitude. The other staff members around were ok, but not fantastic. Our rooms weren't cleaned at all for three days, we had cups and a full ashtray outside our rooms for the whole three days also (place isn't big, so certainly not difficult to keep on top of!) as did other rooms near us. Breakfast has to be booked for time the night before, and is 'ok' at best. Coffee, however, is absolutely awful! If you're looking for a decent place to stay without over-spending, this place is fine, if you'd like better service, look elsewhere. Honestly, i don't think i would stay here again.

We had a terrible stay, the rooms are so small no kettle in the room.

One thing, I wasn't happy that the refund they gave me is not the correct amount.

The short and curly lady in reception said they had a beach towel and you have to pay deposit Php 50 per towel + Php 30 rent each towel. So I didn't ask lot of questions or what I gave her first Php 250 pesos for the deposit for 5 towels then gave her Php 150 for the rent for 5 towels. Then after 2 days before we check out I have returned the 5 towels and he said we doesn't know about this he will let me know. I have a bad feeling already that they won't give the money. Anyway, we out for tea and when I came back went to see him the guy at reception.
He gave me only Php100 pesos I asked him why and what happen to my Php250? He said oh I was told only to give this back as the rent is Php30 per day, I was shocked as the lady hadn't informed me at all all she said once you returned you will have your Php250.

I was just pissed off they haven't informed and their towel is a piece of crap!

One thing we have notice here most of the restaurant have their service fee so no need for the tip. They don't have eftpos. So prepare cash as everytime you pay is by cash.

Again, don't bother staying here it is not worth it and not recommendable. There are lot of affordable accommodation in Coron.

I chanced on Balaibinda through a friend’s recommendation and was pleasantly surprised at this small gem of a B and B. Clean, cute with ample amenities for any traveller passing Coron. It’s also in the middle of town so you’re a walk away from most night spots. I’ll be back!

This lodge has a friendly staff and a manager (Doll) who will make sure that you are not taken advantaged of by peddlers or tour agents. Whatever we needed from lunch to snorkel masks, they provided them. They advised us how much a tricycle trip would cost or how much a San Miguel beer bottle deposit cost, making sure we don't get fooled by opportunists. We love the breakfast and the fact that the housekeeping staff is honest, no items lost! The rooftop open seating is adorable - we drink and eat our desserts there and savor the ocean breeze!

We arrived last night and were put into a room that smelled like sewer and on the main road with tricycles riding by which was very loud. We asked for a room off the main street which were were given, but upon entering there were ants everywhere and apparently they had just sprayed as they were dying all over the bedspead and floor. This room too, smelled of sewer. We pulled the bad back to find no top sheet, which they did bring us. It is inexpensve but not a place I would ever want to stay again.

I just got back from a 4-day trip in Coron. The trip was awesome and Balaibinda contributed to that! Here's a list of pros and cons to help my fellow travellers:

PROS:
1. Homey ambiance. There's a courtyard that adds to the nice atmosphere. The interiors go together really well. Whoever designed it has really good taste.
2. Friendly staff. You get personalized service from the staff. It's a small hotel with only 12 rooms, so that's probably why the staff seems to know all the guests.
3. Going beyond the customer's expectations. When I landed in Coron, I was surprised to see a van that says "Welcome, Jill Nunez - Balaibinda." I did not request for a van pick up, so I was really impressed that the hotel put this up for me. It's not a free service, but it's the same price as a commuter van, 150 pesos per person.
4. The bed is comfy! Not the hard bed a budget hotel normally has. Also, we were in room 203, a second floor room facing the courtyard. The room is really quiet at night. My boyfriend had a great sleep and didn't need his earplugs. (He's the lightest sleeper in the world)
5. HOT AND COLD SHOWER THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. Finally! I'm tired of budget hotels that tell you they have a hot and cold shower, but in reality only has the facility but it doesn't work. The water pressure is strong, too. The shower brand is Panasonic -- a well-known brand. Maybe that's why it worked.
6. Perfect location. In Coron, there are only two areas you will most probably go to: the port and the restaurants. These two areas are in opposite directions from each other. Balaibinda is right in the middle of these two, which makes both locations a walking distance from your hotel.
7. Delicious breakfast. Too good to be free, but free. I also like the dining area on the second floor. Every morning, the guests gather here to enjoy the morning ambiance have breakfast. It's good because you get to mingle with the other guests of the hotel.
8. An air conditioner and a ceiling fan that work perfectly. Both are also quiet.
9. Daily housekeeping.
10. Each room has a balcony with two seats and a table, in case you want to hang out and chit chat.
11. Flat screen TV with lots of cable channels. In case you don't want to go out. :-)
12. WIFI WORKS!! Yes, friends. It does. Haha! Just a tip: I think Wi-Fi is stronger on the second floor, because that's where the modem is.

CONS:
1. I only have one: No safety deposit box. Didn't bother me at all, to be honest. My boyfriend and I always travel with a small padlock and a lock wire, in cases like this.

I will definitely recommend Balaibinda to my family and friends! I will no doubt stay here again!

My wife and I celebrated our 14th Anniversary here last March 6, 2013. I found out about Balaibinda Lodge through Agoda.com. Reading through the reviews, the cleanliness and good service, most specially the price, I immediately booked a Roadside Queen, which has decent amenities. But after booking, I messaged the hotel and upgraded to the Penthouse Queen by adding a couple of hundred pesos more, and what a difference that upgrade made during our stay!

Amenities-wise, only the mini refrigerator an a balcony was added in the Penthouse room. But what made the difference for us was the ambiance of the roofdeck, the mini garden right outside our room and the feeling of privacy (there are only two Penthouse rooms, and the other one was vacant on our first night).

The staff were very warm and friendly, always ready with a smile. Me and my wife are both Filipinos from Manila, and although most of their guests that time were foreigners, you can feel that locals are being given nothing less but their best service all throughout your stay.

For improvements, I think they really need to add a room-to-front desk intercom service for the extra things you may need such as additional toiletries, schedule inquiries, breakfast menu changes, and other little things that a mad dash to the first floor may be too inconvenient.

Tip #1 - If one of you will be staying inside the room while the others go around town, make sure someone notifies the front desk that someone will still use the room. I think they have a separate switch for the AC so even if guests don't switch them off, they can remotely shut it down... maybe to conserve energy.

Tip#2 - Before taking a shower (especially in the evening), you might want to have some backup water on a pail provided in every bathroom. There's a regular power outage in Coron and believe me, you don't want to wait more than 5 minutes for the generator to kick-in before you rinse off those shampoo suds in your eyes.

Tip#3 - Free up precious space from your luggage by leaving your beach towels at home. You can rent clean ones there for only Php30.00 each. But if you're a couple, going on an island tour and don't mind walking back to the hotel semi-wet, I would suggest just renting one piece. You'll be walking and swimming the whole day that you wouldn't have time to find a changing room to take a shower and change into your dry clothes.

We'll definitely stay in Balaibinda when we visit Coron again. Next time we'll definitely bring our two kids. There's so much to see in Coron that a few days stay wouldn't be enough. Until then, I hope Balaibinda maintains its charm and change only for the better.
