I spent 17 wonderful days in the Philippines in March. One of the most memorable places was Malcapuya Island, the nicest beach I have ever seen. Beautiful, clean white sand, huge palm trees, turquoise colour sea and beautiful view from the view deck.
The Island is not far from Coron city by sea. The operator of the island is very flexible and helpful, just as you would visit your friend. The island is not crowded with tourists so is a perfect place for relaxing.
The accommodation is very simple as it is an uninhibited island but still acceptable – big cottages with direct view to the sea. Being a European I missed the bathroom the most but everything else was completely satisfactory. The food was awesome, well prepared and abundant. And all for a great price. I spent only one night there but I wish I could stay longer. I will definitely return and I can honestly recommend to everybody.

The minute you set foot on Malcapuya Island one could tell that this is one of Coron’s well-kept wonders, the feeling of paradise quickly comes to mind.
Malcapuya’s long beach stretches almost the entire length of the island, it has milk powder-like sand and there are no rocks beneath so it’s an ideal destination for swimming or just lounging under the hot afternoon sun
Unlike the other two destinations of our tour (Bulog Dos and Banana Island), the coral reef is far from the shore but never less worth a look. During my short snorkel around the reef I saw an abundance of fish including a large school of barracudas and a small sting ray. The first thing that came to mind was Steve Irwin, a fellow Australian explorer who died from wrestling a sting ray.

Development is soon underway to turn Malcapuya Island into a private resort.
There are no construction activities yet, so guests are free to visit the island however this will change in the next few years as plans are in place to develop it into a private enclave.

It makes me a bit sad that fewer people would get to bear witness to the beauty of this island

I was fortunate enough to visit Malcapuya Island twice during the 7 awesome days I spent in Coron and definitely recommend you visit before it’s transformed into an overpriced resort.

I would have given this 5-stars back in 2009 when I first experienced it. There were no tents set up on the beach, and you approach the island from the "front" where the wide shore is. There were colorful flags bordering the shoreline, which made it really pretty and welcoming. At the time, there were only about 2 other groups on the island, and it was much more relaxing and gave the feel of isolation in a private island.
Last week, I was disappointed that boats needed to be "parked" at the "back" due to tourist volume, and this was not well-maintained and was littered with bottles and plastic waste. The beach was packed, and the tents made it appear like the sandy area was narrower. The corals seemed fewer (?) that before, and the sign that marked "Giant Clam" - which I thought was so full of character - was replaced by a plain buoy topped with a flag.
However, without a point of comparison with my previous experience, this was still a beautiful island, with pristine sands and clear waters. I suggest going very early, possibly avoiding the throng of people. I really much prefer avoiding crowds. Still well worth the 1.5 hour boat ride, especially if you also appreciate the beautiful coves and little islands that you pass by along the way.

Boats are parked on the backside of the beach. You'd pass the "jungle like" and a bit grayish sand full of shells on that part but when you reach the tent, you could see the nice wide stretch of beach. It was powdery white but was again expecting a more relaxing ambiance like that of banana island, there are green green trees, small trees along the shore, fishes near the shore, there are hammocks, there are bermudas--very relaxing and green! While in malcapiya, there were old coconut trees. If you wish to snorkel there you'd might be disappointed because who have to swim a bit far where the flag is, unlike banana island, withy just 3 steps, you;d see many fishes already. There are also cottages here that you can rent for 700/person for an overnight. There is also a private house that you can rent for 10,000 a night! whoa thats expensive... the bad thing is that they dont have a clean restoom here.. another was that they charge an extra 100 pesos for the tent/table.. well i thought that banana , though has a small stretch of beach, is still my top option aside from banol beach.. but malcapuya is still worth visiting. I wish we had spent longer in banana than malcapuya. overnight in banana island is 1000/person/night.

I am reviewing the beach and not the hotel.

This little island is beautiful. White beach and there is actually someone sweeping up the seaweeds and trash from the beach.

It has a little cliff for you to get an elevated view of the beach.

You can get coconut juice there at P40 and rent either a cottage or tent.

It is definitely worth going despite the long journey.

It was a great stop for our day 2 trip in coron.

It had a great view by the hills. The white sand and the nice view! I could stay there for a whole day.

Great stop and there are bars to purchase refreshments.

Most tours offer a visit to Malcapuya. It's a 1.5 hr boat ride (one way) from Coron town so best to maximize the day. Leave early and bring all your snacks/breakfast on the boat then have a picnic lunch on the island. So you'll have plenty of time to chill and relax.

The sand is very white and powdery. The water cool and clear. Super chill here.

Don't look for proper change rooms or toilets. There's none.

There's a picturesque sandbar 15 mins boatride away. Plan a stop with your boatman ahead, so you can catch the right tide level to see the sandbar

This small island was about 1,5 - 2 hours by boat from Coron public market.
Clean water with powdery white sand, you can bring your own picnic meals here, or even cook a BBQ here. Make sure you visit this island when you go to coron, I warranty you will satisfy.

Be sure to put lots of sunscreen. This island gives you a good view of Coron's pristine waters.

We stayed here for 45mins, this is the first stop in our Island escapade tour.

An instagram worthy site 👌🏻

I know this is a old post, but thought I would give an answer for people looking in future. This place is paradise, and also would love to spend a night here. However when we were there this past May it didn’t look like they were renting out the 3 bamboo huts on the beach. They appeared closed up.
