We found ‘The Lion’ online looking for a place to stay near Glastonbury and they were running a ‘Stay for Free’ offer meaning the cost of the room is put towards food and drink, which is a great offer. We were also delighted that they are dog friendly too. We stayed one night. The room was spacious and well served with amenities. We booked a table for dinner and found a cosy table in the corner of the restaurant. The menu is seasonal and does vary. The food was lovely, we chose a surf and turf - which was cooked beautifully, and a pot pie which was amazing and full with meat - no scrimping here! Puddings again were lovely especially the Irn Bru cheesecake. Breakfast is a buffet style with pastries/cereals/fruit with a choice of hot meals too (perfect poached eggs!) The owner and staff were really friendly and welcoming taking time to chat with us and recommend some places to visit. Would highly recommend and would return for sure.

We chanced upon this pub whilst out for a walk from our motor home campsite in Glastonbury. We stopped for Sunday lunch. I cannot say how impressed we were. The Sunday lunch was amazing. We had the chicken and the beef. The chicken was so beautifully flavoured with the thyme , the red cabbage was amazing cauliflower cheese was amazing everything had such amazing flavours. Definitely the best flavoured ever Sunday lunch we’ve had anywhere. Dogs are welcome which is also great. Would love to come back and enjoy another meal and maybe try out the rooms as well. Staff were polite and attentive. Thumbs up all round. Even the toilets are well done.

Visited with my family in January for a birthday lunch. I’ve been a couple of times before, just for a meal alone. The food is super, the menu is quite small but changes regularly, and is always interesting. The pub itself is utterly charming, lovely decor and beautifully clean and well looked after. I don’t have a dog myself at the moment but LOVE that dogs are welcome and given biscuits! The staff are fantastic, always cheerful and helpful and kind, especially Kelly the assistant manager, who really makes the place special. I will definitely be back, it’s an absolute gem. Highly recommended!!

The Lion is such a gem and I only wish I could have stayed longer (I will be back). From booking to checking out everything was seamless. Barrie and his team a professional and friendly which is great when you are travelling alone as I was on this occasion. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to Room 6 and it was fabulous. A large cosy room with a drench shower and a free-standing bath. The bed was so comfy, like a big cuddle. Everything was spotlessly clean. Thank you an amazing stay even if all to brief

We’ve been there twice now and it’s been perfect. Very friendly helpful staff and the food is amazing. The Sunday roast is the best I’ve had eating out and the rabbit pie I had last night was one of the best pies I’ve tried. I’ve eaten in some Michelin Star restaurants and this was just as good. I will definitely be back again
