The Pestana Porto Santo All Inclusive hotel is applauded for its prime location with direct beach access, and most guests enjoy the spacious and clean rooms. While the service is generally commended for being friendly, some visitors have encountered slow service during busy periods. Hotel's Favorite
Family of 4 2 boys age 13 First of all do not be put off by the stupid reviews below! And I never write massive reviews but had to for this!!
Yes it’s a small island but with so much to offer!
ARRIVAL - get your phone out the approach to the island is phenomenal
Transfer is literally 7-10 mins from the airport.
One of rooms was ready one wasn’t no big deal as it’s such a small island one plane takes off the other lands, they called me within 30 mins and it was ready and the bags were waiting for us
HOTEL - Stunning grounds rooms are massive! Not going to lie I’ve been to some 5 starts and it’s not quite there little things like no mini fridge stocked with drinks or snacks but the staff worked tirelessly around the clock!
Every day we came back from the beach our room was SPOTLESS bed made to perfection clean towels every day.
FOOD/DRINK - Variety of themes/food every night fresh station to get steak, chicken, fish ,burgers cooked ect by ELTON who was always smiling!
ALA-CARTE RESTAURANTS- we went to all 3 specialised bar the koi as the boys weren’t a fan of the menu.
The best one was the Med just amazing (REMEMBER TO DRESS YOUR BEST AND MEN WEAR LONG TROUSERS OR YOU WILL GET TURNED AWAY) just adds that extra special feel to it 🥰 the others I’d just say the same as the buffet but waited more of a 1-2-1 basis.
DRINKS - Without MED AND NEAL it would have been a shambles they are amazing really made our holiday yes there is a wait for drinks but all the cocktails are made fresh no sugary concentrated crap the real deal and they take such pride in making them for you.
We were so disgusting that people moaned about the wait they are doing their best (tip tip tip you’ll be fine 😉 they appreciate it so much)
The amount of people that didn’t shocking!
***** And shame on you the lady from Formby who complained that Med closed the bar at 3 minutes to ten when she had 2 drinks any way and reported him for closing 3 minutes early I was embarrassed to be English! And I hope Melody sorted it out with his manager Bruno as she promised us she would as is was out of order for him to get told off the poor man works 12 hours a day closes the bar 3 mins early to then tidy the whole place up?!
*** I’m hoping I get a reply to that from this****
People are crazy and rude!
I’d only say at meal times there needs to be more staff to cater to pour the drinks but that’s it.
POOL - Great size lots of room no need to race to get sun beds and if any are reserved before 9am they will just be taken off and handed into reception it’s not Benidorm people!
BEACH- I’ve been to the Caribbean 6 times and no beach compares to this wow wow wow could not get the kids out.
Crystal clear, fun waves, golden sand not sure what the below idiot is on about plenty of beds they just cost €35 a day to use so book in advance or simply get an umbrella and wind breaker that are a available on entrance to the beach it’s that simple! Couldn’t fault it!
EXCURSIONS - booked all the trips with TUI
We did the speed boat trip it’s a must!!! Forget the catamaran (only if you have small children) you will LOVE the speed boat we had an unbelievable day and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We also hired the bubble cars and explored the whole island in 5 hours the man who brought the cars asked for my phone he put his wats app in then downloaded an app map and gave us a route with 13 stops on just followed the island round using the sat nab and my god what a beautiful Island the kids had such a fab time better then the 4x4 so much fun and the roads are quiet so no panicking about being on the other side of the road.
ANIMATION - Didn’t really get involved with this as the bits are too old they played football and water polo the animation team couldn’t do enough always full of energy smiles on their faces!
Evening entertainment just the same really same club dances ect we played cards most nights and spent time as a family but no complaints.
Over all fantastic holiday kids said the best one they have been on!
I have to be honest not a 5 star but a 4star + with potential the staff make it!!
Just need a few tweaks and it would make it a 5star but don’t hesitate get it booked or if you have I’m jealous!

We have just returned home from a lovely week here. This was the first holiday with my one year old son so we purposely picked an all inclusive family hotel.
We payed extra for a pool view and we were on the ground floor - perfect as you can just step out to the pool or sunbathe on the grass outside which most people did. So that is definitely worth paying the extra for. (Think it was £50) Rooms were spotless and so well cleaned every day, plenty of wardrobe space and hangers, bed was super comfy and it had everything you need. Only thing missing was they do not restock the mini fridge which would have been nice.
The grounds are lovely, the staff are SO polite and welcoming couldn’t have asked for any better. The hotel is on the beach which is just stunning - you do have to pay extra for sun beds if you want them or just use your own towels not a problem. Wind blockers and umbrellas are also provided.
The only thing that lets it down is the food which I read in many of the reviews. There is no kids menu and considering this is a family hotel I find that very odd. I asked about it and they said they were working on it and it would be ready the next day (second day of the holiday) however this menu never came throughout our stay. I just don’t understand what they want fussy children to eat as there were no options whatsoever. There is not much choice for adults either it’s quite basic and samey every day which was disappointing.
One other perk is that you can use the sister hotel next door which I definitely recommend. The pool is a lot nicer and you can use the indoor pool for children whereas the one at this hotel is adults only. Their restaurant is a lot bigger and spaced out so I would recommend eating in there instead.
The town is only a 5 minute taxi ride which was ideal although there isn’t much to do but nice to have a walk round.
Overall a lovely holiday - ignore the bad reviews the food is the only thing that lets it down! Everything was so clean and Covid safe too!

We stayed at the Pestana Porto Santos location for 8days for our honeymoon. Overall it was very good and so relaxing! The beach just a minute walk from the resort is very clean and never over crowded, and all guests get free wind breakers and umbrellas that you can put anywhere you want to set up camp at. They also had sun chairs and stationary umbrellas you could rent for a small addition to your stay but we never felt that we needed it. The bar nearby with free drinks was also awsome! The food was pretty good. They rotate dinner as a themed buffet every night but breakfast and lunch buffet was the same every day and it did start to feel a little bit boring but they are making all you can eat food constantly for a lot of people so like who am I to complain. They also had a bar and snack area that was available all day and the food was pretty good there to. All inclusive of course. Most of the employees do speak English at the resort but a lot of them not to well so it was sorta hard to ask questions and get an answer that actually helped us. For example there is apparently a bus that will take you into the city and then bring you back later but when we asked about it, all they said was it was picking people up in front of the lobby. We waited in front of the lobby and what looked like a city tour bus picked people up the road a bit from the lobby so we thought it was a different thing so we waited longer and then a regular looking shuttle bus came in front of the lobby but when we tried to get on, we were told it was only for families with kids and were kicked off. Apparently the one for us was the 1st one but nobody told us clearer information so we didn't know. This happened a lot while we were there. The few things that we had issues with was that the beds were way too hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. The wifi didn't work in many parts of the resort including our room, which was very inconvenient because when your out of country you only get internet with wifi and it was the only way to communicate with family back home or check flights or book excursions. The only other thing was the rooms aren't updated with usb outlets and it made it extremely hard to charge our phones, but that's just us nitpicking because we forgot to bring a universal outlet converter...most hotels nowadays internationally have usb outlets so we didn't think we'd need it...that was our bad. We absolutely LOVED the adult only pool and spa aera of the resort (though we did see parents bring kids in the pool a few times and no one stopped them so that was annoying) but the pool had a timer that would have jets come on in different ways all around the walls and it was just so cool! Then there was a series of rooms that included a steam bath room, a Hammond, and a sauna. All rooms were very large and so amazing! We loved the sauna the most. Overall we definitely recommend staying here if you plan a trip to the island of Porto Santos Portugal.

We stayed in Room 418 for a week and was happy to get away, but this is not a 5* hotel. The staff at the hotel are really friendly in the main, and attentive when you have a need. The room was clean and tidy and the housekeeping ladies very efficient in keeping the rooms clean and today. Beware the walls are not soundproofed and you can hear your neighbour when they snore..: ) There is a good wardrobe space and a safe in the room. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee maker in the room and the small fridge on arrival there was a bottle of water, a can of fizzy drink and sparkling water small bottle, this is not replenished.
We had two single beds pushed together, and I can say the mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable which was disappointing. The hotel grounds were nice, but needed more attention, the hotel looked tired in places and needed some painting and updating. The main pool was cold but clean and the sunbeds were cleaned at the end of the day. The food situation was not amazing, but was ok, limited choices and when it got busy, I agree there was not enough staff to cope, but the staff tried hard. You used tongs to get food on your plate. The drinks were very watered down, you self service soft drinks and beer and used bar staff for cocktails and spirits. There was machines for tea and coffee, but usually no milk present for tea and getting T bags or milk could be a mission at times. The TUI Rep was nice and approachable and around to speak to which was nice. The beach was quiet, lovely and clean but they charge you 12.50 Euro's at day for the sunbeds and if the wind is blowing it can feel like your being sand blasted by the fine stones. You can get snacks of burgers, hot dogs and salads or a nice sandwich at Clean beach towels should be on tap in the day, but there is a very specific swap with housekeeping, which is a pain at times. I recommend the TUI 4 x 4 experience, found out lots of history and saw some lovely sights and a great guide. At the airports, this can be a bit stressful, so make sure you leave plenty of time in the UK and in Porto Santo and have your phones open with all of the forms open ready. We were told that face masks worn all the time apart from eating or sunbathing, this gradually faded with more and more people seemingly choosing to not wear masks by the end of the week when walking about the resort. This was a lovely island if you want a small feel and again want to say the staff at the hotel in the main are really lovely and nice, but this is not 5* so please do not expect this.

This is a nice pleasant hotel with a good location on the beach, lovely outdoor pools and very nice staff. But it is a 3 star resort at best, it is the best on the island but by any international standard this is not a 5 star hotel. We really struggled with the food which was extremely basic (but this was the case for much of the island). The rooms are very clean and pleasant but the decor is straight from a 1990s budget tv makeover show. Such a shame really as you can see the potential this property has to offer if it was upgraded and had a major overhaul of its food. There are no amenities in the room such as tea and coffee facilities, no iron, sewing kit, shoe shine etc. The mini fridge only contains a single bottle of water and there are no snacks. There is also no room service. I appreciate some facilities may be scaled back as a result of covid but we stayed in a different 5 star hotel in Portugal at the beginning of July and all the usual facilities were provided but with some modifications.
If you can get a very cheap deal here then it may be a good option but personally I would not stay here again.

After working throughout the pandemic, my partner and I felt we deserved a last minute getaway for 2 weeks at the “5 Star resort”
First of all the hotel and it’s facilities are 3 star at best. The beds are hard as rocks and the rooms are very basic. The food is buffet style and Luke warm. They have restaurants on site, which are nearly impossible to book and lots of people I spoke to were unable to book any of the restaurants even once.
We put effort into learning as much Portuguese as we could before coming as I appreciate that English people don’t often try to speak other language and assume everyone speaks English. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time as it is very clear from the bar/ food bar staff that they do not like English people and sneer when I attempted to say the basic pleasantries in Portuguese like “hello” “please” and “thank you” yet when a Portuguese speaking customer would order stood next to me it was all smiles and laughter and common courtesy.
To the staff member on the Sandwich bar on Sunday 6th June- thank you for making me feel completely humiliated after I tried to order in simple Portuguese (which I know was correct) but because I was English you stated at me and said “what” and so I repeated, and you raised your voice and shouted “WHAT” until I ordered in English. I was trying to have some cultural appreciation but it was clearly dismissed with disgust.
This holiday has been so disappointing that we are leaving a week early at our expense as we cannot bear to stay here any longer and will never be returning.
Staff members please remember we are paying customers and maybe appreciate it when someone is trying to be polite and return the favour.
I have never come home from a holiday feeling more exhausted and stressed than before I arrived.
Long story short- if you are English, you will probably feel unwelcome by the bar/ food bar staff who you will spend most of the day around.
It has to be noted that not all staff were rude- the buffet restaurant staff and the reception staff were very hard working and helpful no matter the request so thank you for that.
I do not appreciate the cleaners knocking on the bedroom door at 9am asking how long we will be until we leave the room and then awkwardly staring at me as I try to get ready and leave the room for 3 days on the run. Surely that’s what the “I am busy” signs are for?

Me and my partner stayed at Pestana Porto Santo this September for one week. We had a lovely holiday and was very happy we chose Pestana.
The hotel was very clean and covid-19 cautious. It had one way systems in place & even provided individual tongs for meal times to reduce touching. One little downfall was that our room wasn't ready when we got there. This was due to covid and to ensure everything was sanitised. I'd recommend getting your swimwear out & making the most of your first day. There are showers in the pool toliets.
We over indulged all week as the food was so good. Theres a buffet restaurant & a few a la cartes, all had a variety and a choice of meat/vegetarian. Our favourite was the Italian, Luigis. The snack bar by the pool was also lovely.
The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, we couldn't fault them. The entertainment wasn't amazing but we still watched it every night. Porto Santo is not a party Island but a beautiful place and definately worth a visit.
We went on a yacht excursion with tui and saw wild dolphins, stopped off and had a chance to swim in the ocean. This was a great afternoon out, I'd highly recommend. We also went to Porto das Salamas, a taxi cost about €15. You get dropped at the top of a mountain and make your own way down. I wouldn't recommend this for children or the elderly as the walk up and down felt more like a climb, its very steep but the view was 100% worth it. The water was crystal clear and fish literally swam around you.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday and would recommend Pestana and Porto Santo. Prai beach is one of the best we've seen. We had never heard of the Island until now as it was one of very few places on the green list. We had the most relaxing holiday and so glad we chose this hotel.

The Pestana Porto Santo lived up to our expectations and beyond! The Manager upgraded our room on arrival and they checked us in early, we were then taken by buggy to our room and a very nice luggage man sorted our suitcases. Room was very spacious with a massive bed and huge pillows. Very comfortable. Everything was clean and efficient and the staff were very friendly and helpful and always asking us if everything was ok and anything they could do for us, even the cleaner was lovely. The grounds are lovely and a little piece of paradise. There are plenty of places to lie around without being surrounded by people. Every evening we saw grounds staff tidying up and washing down all the beds and patio areas. They are doing there very best to ensure safety during covid. There wasn't much evening entertainment but we didn't mind this as we preferred to be outside due to covid. The beach is beautiful, free brollies and wind breakers. The food was typical all inclusive but they did the best omelettes, salads and desserts, and great toasties at the snack bar. The madeiran restaurant next door was also amazing, be warned their madeiran punch is so strong it will put hairs on your chest! The island itself is a stunning place lost in the Atlantic. We highly recommend cycling and also renting a twizzy car to see all the viewpoints. We also climbed pico de castello which was hard work but very rewarding. There is a beautiful beach bar just down from the hotel which is perfect to watch the sunsets. Top tip, don't be fooled by cloud cover. The UV is so strong and I've never been to anywhere where the temperature was only 22 with cloud but still extremely warm and got suburnt! My only suggestions for the hotel is to have kettles in the room for that morning coffee. Overall we had the best relaxing week and we will definately go back at some point.

This is a 3*max and so guests need to manage their expectations when booking this hotel. Firstly, the location is great. Close to a gorgeous beach and a short transfer from the airport.
But where to start….. the room we were first allocated smelled musty, stains all over the settee/ mattresses. We were moved to another room which was slightly better but still needed refurbishing and it was never cleaned. There were cobwebs everywhere and the beds and towels (looked about 5years old and full of holes) also never changed. After putting all the towels in the bath to force a change, they were simply taken out and draped over the chairs in the room. Yes there is a kettle in the room- there were 5 of us in our room but we had one disposable cup and one glass to use to make drinks!
The pools- thank god for the sister hotel as there you were able to grab sun beds at a decent time after breakfast. You can have fresh beach towels everyday from reception but they were hit and Miss. Sometimes you had beach towel sized ones, sometimes you had ones that were smaller than a bath towel. Sun beds really need changing as the material was coming away from the sides and they were that saggy, you could feel the plastic bars underneath.
The food- goodness me, where to start. Truly awful. The breakfasts consisted of the usual range however the standard was awful. Purple/grey bacon. Burnt scrambled eggs were the highlight.
Lunch and dinner were the same every single day. Poor quality, very limited choice. Tables never cleaned in the pool bar area and were teeming with ants.
If I had booked a 3* and a late deal then I could have reconciled with the limited choices. However this is advertised as a 5* which it never is. If it wasn’t for the location of the beach (with free parasol/wind breaks but it would have cost us 60Euros for 5 sun beds for one day) then this would have felt like a prison. It is the first holiday I have counted down the days to come home and when you have spent over £5k for a week, that really is not acceptable.

We travelled with two friends and on arrival we were greeted by the team allocating our wrist bands . we checked in really quickly only one of our rooms were ready which wasn't an issue we were taken by a buggy to the room and the porter carried our luggage to the room .
the rooms were very clean and a really good size with a lovely view of the pool from a good size balcony
we booked our a la carte dining and there was only one that was unavailable .
we ate breakfast every morning in the buffet and were never disappointed we ate about 8.30 and there was never a queue .
the Med the Madeiran and the Italian were all lovely .
The beach was the best beach we have ever been to its huge and never gets crowded sunbed hire is very reasonable .
We loved walking the length of the beach and had beverages at two tavernas the cost was very reasonable
We hired a Twizzy car to explore the island which was a brilliant experience and so much fun.
yes the alcohol was local but this is common in most all inclusive hotels we just drank more and adjusted to the taste .
All the staff were helpful and polite
we were not bothered about the entertainment we drank and played Pool and talked and laughed with our friends
it was a perfect break and would highly recommend if you want lovely scenery a beautiful beach with much less commercialism than other destinations
We visited the hotel next door where you can use their facilities but for us Pestama was far superior for our needs
thank you to the whole of the team for making this much needed holiday one to remember
One tip even if its cloudy put sun cream on or you will burn as my husband sadly discovered

We've just returned, we had 3 good days (went for a week) the others were cloudy and windy one morning it rained. The sea was mostly rough but when windy drops it was fine.
It's a mid Atlantic Island
The weather will be very very similar to Madeira. The beach is good and the water temperature is acceptable
You can pay on a check out ! Cash or card is fine!
