Detailed Reviews
If you are going to stay in the Alona Beach area in the Philippines, I would recommend the Blue Ocean hotel at the western edge of this somewhat overcrowded beach area. There are lots of hotels that cost far more money and were probably swankier, but the Blue Ocean provides more than adequate accommodations with the room right on the beach in a way from the noisy crowds. Food is limited with a fixed breakfast included. Rooms were very large and here to I would recommend getting their family room which was very spacious for not that more money. Make sure you talk to the hotel in advance (which was somewhat problematic), to arrange for pickup from the airport or the ferry dock. This is a free service that was much needed. Also arrange for the hotel to take you back to the airport or to the ferry docks when you leave.

It has the biggest whiate sand area!
It may only give you the basic things and few types of food (best grilled cheese!) but it is clean, gives a good ocean view and has a friendly staff.
Island tour to Balicasag was exhilarating! Dolphins, sea turtles and colorful fishes!!!
Virgin Island gives you food thrill. Isola island for the religious (Padre Pio).
Of course, land tour gives another kind of excitement. Tarsier, Butterflies, Lemur, Hornbill (and crocodile / python)
Seafood by the sea for dinner is awesome.

Blue Ocean is a beachfront property so expect to step outside and feel the powdery sand on your feet. The beach itself is fantastic, it's worth flying to Bohol for.
Having said that, there might be other accommodations that you'd like to consider if what you want is to enjoy the renowned Bohol beach. Blue Ocean s a bit spartan and basic. The views are to die for, don't get me wrong. But the rest of the "resort" is super basic. There's hot water and A/C (although on our arrival, the resort was on generator power and only had electric fans to cool us down and the water pressure was re), free breakfast was eggs, ham & bread (not very appetizing).
The approach to the entrance of the property was bad. The road is unpaved and the stairs going way down to the reception was REALLY steep. The "reception" is just a counter of a hut where they serve breakfast. We were so disappointed we almost backed out.
Still, there were good points. The service was very good, the staff friendly and polite. The wifi was fast and was really great. The TV had very good choices for programs, and there were small amenities like coffee, creamer for your morning breakfast, and the bathroom had sachets of shampoo, soap and toothpaste.
The property is at the end of a long beach line that tends to be quite busy as a jump off point for island hopping and diving tours. The location at the end of the stretch is a plus as it is not as crowded with tourists.
All in all, we got what we paid for. We loved the beach/view and was satisfied with the property, but we think they shouldn't call it a resort. Otherwise, people expect a little bit more.

The owner gave us a treat. We got the family room even if we were only 2. It was like being in your own home. Staff was like family. Their grilled cheese sandwich was the BEST we have tasted so we ate that everyday. It has the biggest shore/sand area.
Not much food available but restaurants were nearby.
Simple. Basic. Clean.
Very nice view from the 2nd floor.

Nice and cozy place. The STAF makes you feel at home, friendly and smiling, if you need, in a sincere way. The rooms all overlook the sea, where you can enjoy an amazing show. Quiet because quite distant (not too much) from the premises and other establishments, so if you want tranquility is the most suitable place. I recommend it absolutely

Nice room, FANTASTIC view, friendly staff. Breakfast very basic, but it’s the Filies!!! Highly recommended for Total Chill Out and experience of ‘living on the beach’. (I visited with my friends from Boracay cos it was closed, and we all enjoyed)

Blue ocean is at the end of Alona out of ear shot of the noisy center hub of Alona beach and yet less than 5 minutes walking and you can be in the middle of it all. The resort is directly on the white sand beach. The staff and other locals work all to keep the beach clean and free of tourist garbage. The staff are friendly and quick to respond to requests. The rooms are simple but very spacious. AC works great. Loved the view from our second story balcony.
The resort has full face snorkel masks for rent but make sure to inspect your mask. Mine had some scratches on the plastic that obscured my view somewhat. The mask my gf got was perfect. The little bit of snorkeling we did we didn't see much in the way of sea life compared to other Ph beaches. So we ended up ditching the masks and just had fun playing in the water swimming.
The resort only offers breakfast but with so many resorts and restaurants along Alona we tried a different place every meal. With so many options close by it's doubtful we would have eaten at the resort every meal if it was an option. Variety is nice.
The only problem we had and it was minor, was that all of the online maps had issues showing how to get to the resort. the road is not fully mapped. The taxi ended up taking us to the beach one road to soon. So we had to cut through another resort and carry our suitcases down the beach for 5-10 minutes.
You want to turn onto Kalipayan road off the main road through town. As a land mark, Vanilla Sky Restaurant is on this road. Drive all the way to end of the road. There is a resort there with yellow walls and I think Russian lettering. Turn left onto the little road/alley. This little road is the part missing from the online maps. Drive the short distance to the end of this road. To your right is the beach and some stairs. You know these are the stairs if they are big enough for giants. :-) Walk down the giant stairs and the building immediately on your left is the Blue Ocean. Enjoy!

The location is nice. It’s at the end of alona beach, which is nice when you want to avoid the nightly music and get some sleep. However, everything else was severely lacking. I don’t think the place can be called a resort. There aren’t amenities like a pool, and there is no bar service. It’s easier to walk down the beach to buy a beer than to buy one thru the hotel. They do have an information hut that doubles as a bar, but you have to track down the people to get anything after 4pm.
The staff, in our limited interaction, was courteous.
It feels more like a hostel than a resort. The price we paid felt like a big rip off compared to a few places just a stones throw away (places with pools were around 1500 pesos a night).
Overall, not a bad location. But unfortunately, even though the staff was courteous, I don’t think I’d stay here again.

The small hotel is located 30 meters from the nice seafront. The problem is the there is a lot of trash mixed with seaweed in the water so bathing there is not recommended. When walking to Alona beach center, you need to pass through a vacant lot adjacent to the hotel that is full of trash, also a downer. The room itself was spacious and clean with an amazing waterfront view. There was a problem with water pressure in the bathroom. The water hardly came out from the tap. The water heater was connected to an electrical outlet very close to the water tap. Looks like a dangerous mixing of electricity and water. Breakfast was basic but nice with a nice eating spot in the shade
