I went to Fun Island Resort in Maldives with my mother, wife and two sons. It was a lovely experience. We went by Indigo flight from Kolkata to Mumbai and Mumbai to Male. We stayed in cottage like apartments. The lovely beaches had a brilliant effect. We had complimentary breakfast lunch and dinner. We went to the dining place everyday and had brilliant sausage, sandwitch, eggs for breakfast, fried rice, chicken curry, vegetables for lunch and fantastic meat curry chapati, chinese food at dinner. it was a buffet. My small son drank milk of tetrapak. We swam in the beaches every day and it was refreshing experience. We also took spa. It was really romantic experience.

We were a group of 9 adults, & acutally we did not book this hotel but we had another one booked.
The hotel we booked couldn't manage to accomodate us due some construction work reasons, so we were transferred to this hotel & I can say that it was one of the best decissions.
Fun island was really great & amazinng place. Staff were really friendly & polite.
Surely will vist again someday.

We went for honeymoon to Maldives and stayed here for 3 nightss and 4 days. It was a pleasant stay and we enjoyed a lot. They have some nice extra arrangements for honeymooners. Definitely worth the money spent and food was really awesome. Give this a try for sure. Staffs were very cordial and helpful. In the night time you can see sharks also at the end of boardwalk.

Cheater..we choose some adventurous activities at qad advananturous sports club and we choose a package in which they will promise to provide all photography of all our activities. After completing they promised to share them by Google drive but 3 months gone still they didn't provide. They are such a cheater. Shameful..beware.

If your dream to visit Maldives was about having a comfortable and romantic holiday in paradise, then you probably came to the wrong place. Maldives is the paradise on Earth, but choosing the right hotel is the make it or break it criteria for having a memorable trip.
Why is that?
- Islands are relatively far away from each other, and therefore you'll probably stay most of your time in the island of your resort.
- This means you end up being dependent on your resort structure to have a happy holiday.
- You need therefore basic structure related to food, water sports, activities and a relatively comfortable room, otherwise your stay will not be as pleasant as you wanted.
- Infra-strucutre is therefore the NUMBER 1 criteria of choice of your resort in Maldives. People normally concern about which island they wanna stay - I would dare to say this is secondary as all islands are extremely beautiful, but not all hotels are.
Why Fun Island is not a good choice?
- There is NO infra-structure. ZERO. No swimming pool, no full time availability for activities and water sports (you need to be lucky to have other guests wanting to do the same thing as you at the same time), water sports center is always closed, snorkeling equipments need to be paid apart (bearing in mind that snorkeling is what is there to do), not enough safety in tours and boats (often people are sailing without the use of life jackets and others). Believe me, in Maldives, these kind of things that might be just minor details on other places are definitely a must have.
- The hotel facilities are completely outdated, not clean enough, not well cared enough. Our bathroom shower was an open space (yes, no walls and ceiling closing the box), so unless you are seriously looking forward to some time in rough nature this will not be comfortable enough. We also found spider webs in the ceilings and under the desks in many spots, besides mud in many corners.
- There are no amenities in the hotel. Therefore, for example if you need to buy more shampoo or sun blocker, forget about it - it will take you 2 days for finding somebody that is going to Male and can buy you some.
- The staff, even being very polite and keen to help, does not have full access to solutions to your problems. More training would be required to ensure higher efficiency.
- I am not sure the concept of DO NOT DISTURB is something well appreciated at this hotel. Several times we had people knocking at our door after 10pm and before 7am, which should not be happening regardless of the reason.
For all those points, we did our check-out earlier than expected for the first time in our lives. Unless you are looking forward to have a very (VERY) rustic experience in a lost island, this is probably not a place to spend more than 1-2 days. And in case you are looking forward to a very rustic experience in a lost island, maybe camping or hiring a budget hotel could be a better and less expensive option?
Hope this is helpful to others, and truly hope the hotel itself can improve its facilities and service for the future. The island is beautiful and has potential, but the hotel demands serious revamp.

We have just returned from 2 weeks on Fun Island. It was our 1st trip to the Maldives and it certainly won't be the last!!!!
Once you step off the boat, the first reaction is "WOW"!!, the island is very picturesque and as it was getting dark when we arrived, the lights all along the jetty made it look truly magical.
The House Reef is brilliant for snorkelling and just before dusk, a couple of Manta Rays would cruise by. There are Eagle Rays and some small Black Tipped Reef Sharks and loads and loads of different types of fish.
The Delphis Diving School is absolutely 1st Class and Sameer,Petri,Jamille and Ali are all brilliant Instructors. My wife, who doesn't even like putting her head underwater, became a Fully Qualified PADI Open Water Diver thanks to the wonderful teaching ability of the Chief Instructor, Sameer.
The service and friendliness show by all the staff at the resort, made our holiday, truly one to remember.
The weather was superb, it poured down on 2 afternoons from about 4pm, which considering it is the rainy season, wasn't bad.
I would thoroughly recommend a trip to the Fun Island resort and hopefully we will visit it again as soon as we can.
If anyone wants any further info/photos, then please feel free to email me.

I stayed at Fun Island Resort with my wife for 4 nights 5 days (05-Dec-2016 to 09-Dec-2016). Airport to resort transfer is by high speed boat and takes around 45 minute to reach there. The counter number at Airport for Fun Island resort is 15. I stayed in room no. 237 (Beach Bungalow) which was a bit far from reception and the reef. There was no TV in the room. But the room was very neat and clean. Overall the resort/property is very clean, beautiful and calm. Resort offers a free boat trip to Robinson Island which is just 5 minutes away from resort. You just have to put your name in nomination form. The trip starts at 10 am and will bring you back at 12 pm. It is a small Island. I clicked few snaps and spent rest the time enjoying swimming. I went there twice.
The resort has very good reef. I saw a big Manta in night at the end of the reef.
Waters ports:
The Resorts offers various water sports activities at very reasonable price.
I rented a kayak for an hour for 13$ including all taxes. They won't charge you extra bucks event if you do the kayaking for more time.
I also took a snorkeling lesson since I was doing it for the first time. The charges for 90 minute Snorkeling lesson is 36$ per person and It was worth. I spotted many beautiful and colorful fishes and corals although the coral are dead. It was simply amazing. The guy who gave us the snorkeling lesson, his name is Hizu. He is the coolest and most co-operative dude in this resort. He took us beyond the reef in a deep ocean. The next day I just rented the snorkeling gear for 13$ and life jacket for 4$ (total 17$) for 7 hours.
One can also go for scuba diving. Charges for scuba for couple is approx 365$ which includes under water photography(pics and videos). I didn't do it.
Food:
There was no a la carte option at the resort. The breakfast/lunch/dinner is served as a part of buffet. But the buffet has very good variety of fruits, deserts. They also serve Indian food(Steamed rice,Daal and some Sabji) in buffet everyday. Indian food is ok. The mineral water at the resort is expensive. So I carried 14 litres(500 ml,28 bottles) of mineral water in check-in bag and It was a very good decision. It saved around 80$-100$.
This was one the best vacation I have I ever taken. I did a lot research before choosing this resort and I think this is cheapest Island resort in Maldives.
This is the best resort if you are on budget or if you want to save some money and enjoy Maldivian vacation. I would definitely recommend this resort. If you are planning for Maldives vacation, plan it for at least 4 nights. I felt that two or three nights stay is too short.

We stayed in fun island In April,2015. Booked through Antilog vacations , As Maldives is a country where we get visa on arrival so you need to carry only three documents with you while going to maldives - your passport, tickets & hotel/resort voucher.
As we got down on the Male airport we have given the visa and at the exit gate all resorts have counters you can ask to any counter for your resort they will guide you.
After half an hour our speed boat arrived and we boarded for Fun island. Yes the ride was great, we reached the island in 45 minutes and there welcomed by the staff
as we reached around 12.30 pm, we have taken the lunch (* Always take full boarded plan for resort stay it includes breakfast, lunch and dinner),
We have taken the deluxe room and it was too good, I would say if you are on your honeymoon please take deluxe rooms.
A typical day at fun island starts with the morning break fast after that if you want you can do the activities what island offers but they are bit costly , just roaming around island feels good (* please take a DSLR with you ,it is must ), there are some water activities which island offers -
1. Free Trip to Robinson island (A deserted island , do not miss it )
2. Dolphin site seeing ($25 per person ,)
3. Night fishing (around $ 40 per person)
there are others also
The procedure for the activities is - you have to register at the reception prior to the activities , sometimes they cancel the activities due to less no. of registration
In the evening I would suggest to stay on the island and feel the beauty of sunset, it is breath taking.
In the night the resort organizes activities like dj nights, karaoke nights etc
Have your dinner and take a walk on the island (* Island is completly safe)
Some tips -
- Vegetarian food is available but with limited options, if you are a fruit lover you will not feel bad
- They charge $5 for 1.5 lite water bottle (1 litre water is given free every day)
- Not a place for Water sports, it is a place to relax (my opinion)
- Wifi will work around reception and speed is good
Overall it was a nice stay and worth going to fun island :)

Spent 6 nights here and absolutely loved it. It's a 45 minute speedboat ride from Malé which is handy as it's not too far. Nice calm journey with some nice views.
The hotel is lovely- exactly as the photos show. Our room was ideal. It was big, had excellent air conditioning and a nice little sitting area outside. Very clean and spacious. You get a free bottle of water per person every day in the room. All rooms are very close to the beach. Free Wifi in the lobby areas.
The island itself is one of the nicest I have ever seen. You can walk around it in 20 minutes. One side of the island is windier and has a long pier which you can walk out on and see fish, sharks (at night with a big bright light), turtles and manta rays if you're lucky too. We saw everything except the manta rays.
The house reef is located at the end of the pier too. From there you can snorkel and the discovery diving goes from there too. Very handy as there is no boat ride involved as it is all just right there off the pier. We rented snorkel equipment for one day, it's $16 life jacket, snorkel, fin. We saw lots of fish, nice coral, turtle, sting ray and big shoals of fish too. Very safe.
The dive instructor Siet Lee is absolutely lovely. She's really friendly and great at what she does. If you're interested in diving she's very reassuring and goes out of her way to make everyone comfortable. The videos of the dives looked great.
The food was fantastic. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all amazing. Plenty of choice. Pancakes, waffles, fruit, french toast, cereal, hot food for breakfast. Different kinds of soup every day, mixture of Indian dishes, Chinese food, pasta, chicken, beef, fish, vegetarian. There was plenty and it was always delicious. Desserts were excellent too. Nice small sizes but plenty of choice. The chocolate brownies with nuts were gorgeous! Lots of fruit too. There's juice available for free at breakfast, lunch and dinner and also tea/coffee. There's also a menu for drinks if you want to order soft drinks, beer etc. A large bottle of water 1.5litres was $3.50.
The staff were lovely. Very friendly without being imposing and always nice. One of the staff feeds the stingrays every day (or every other day, not sure) at around 4pm. Don't miss this!!! It's brilliant. Ask at reception and they'll tell you where to go. You'll see lots of sting ray jumping out of the water to be fed and he'll even let you feed them if you want!! Very cool.
There's plenty to do on the island. The main beach is gorgeous and the water is so clear and calm. It's perfect for swimming in and very safe. There's also a free trip to Robinson island- you just sign up at reception and it goes at 10 am til 12. There are other paid trips for example a dolphin cruise. You get 50% back if you don't see any dolphins! There's a snorkeling trip you can do on the boat, a sunset cruise and more. You also rent lots of equipment such as wind surfers, kayaks, jet skis.
We booked with 'Maldives offers' and we found them to be the best value. They were great to deal with, met us at the airport and great communication before we arrived.
Overall I highly recommend Fun island resort. It has it all... a really beautiful island, excellent food, nice rooms, friendly staff and a good price too. It's a nice size of a resort too. We felt like we had the place to ourselves!!

I never write reviews but I had to write this one given how bad their customer service is at this crappy resort. We arrived here on 31st dec and at the checkin was told that we would have to pay $95/person for a special dinner for the New Year's Eve. When we had researched staying in Maldives, we had looked at a lot of resorts that stated a mandatory dinner for the New Year's Eve but not fun island so this was surprise to us. My bf showed the reception desk the booking we had made (which was not cheap $450/ night) and also showed that no where on the booking it states that there would be a mandatory dinner but they did not respect our booking and kept insisting that we have to take the dinner in order to stay at the resort, after 2 hours of waiting to check in on New Year's Eve and talking to 10 people we finally got fed up and said fine and checked in. The service at the resort was the worst customer service we have ever experienced. We both are consultants and we travel for a living so trust me when I say this was the WORST customer service ever. Then comes the day of our departure, we were asked by 10 people when we will be checking out when we had already said 10:30am and the checkout time was 11am, they sent the bell boy to clean the room before we ever had the trolley service come and pick our luggage. Forget about offering us water we had to carry our own luggage out to the dock. This resort should be shut down or the management staff should be fired by villa hotels as they are completely incompetent and completely mismanaged. They do not know how to treat their guests, and other reviews are much too kind to them for what they have to offer.
If you are looking for a nice resort place to stay look elsewhere, if you are traveling on budget, maafushi island which is a local island nearby is a FAR better place to stay with amazing people (and beverages aren't an issue to get for foreigners). The beach at maafushi was also less rocky and with less sea grass. We had stayed there the first two days and made the mistake of coming to this crappy resort.

They had started to do them while we were there. We were due to return in April and the staff told us then that all of the rooms were being done up. Unfortunately we couldn’t travel in April but hopefully will return soon :-)
Hello, there is no swimming pool. The island is very small - you can walk around the whole circumference of the island in 15 to 20 minutes. The sea is very calm, warm and shallow. Don’t let not having a pool put you off, the island is magnificent 🥰
